A recent tragedy struck the heart of Aleris recently when a dragon collided with an airship which resulted in the dragon’s death as well as a number of casualties and injuries in both the passengers of the air ships and the Alerian citizens walking below.
Airship travel is highly common among the citizens of Aleris and to date there has never been an accident of such magnitude involving one of the aircrafts. Survivors of the accident who happened to see the dragon prior to the collision have said it appeared to be fleeing from danger of some kind and while it is impossible to tell if this was truly the case it would help to explain the unusual circumstances of the accident. Still others have stated they saw the dragon trying to protect what looked like eggs as it lay dying on the ground but when rescue workers finally reached the dead dragon they found nothing resembling an egg at the scene.
Lost lives and injuries were not the only result of this disaster. Several buildings in downtown Aleris were damaged or even fully destroyed by the collision as it fell to the ground and those that were out of the direct path were set on fire by the resulting blaze and several businesses were destroyed, the building that houses The Aleris Chronicle included.
The Grand Duke Antonio Desiderio was on sight to help with the disaster by helping to extinguish the flames and co-ordinate triage efforts. He wasn’t the only one, however. The citizens of Aleris rallied in a time of their City’s need and many people were seen helping those injured from the wreckage, some I have learned having only just arrived in this realm from the Outer Gates.
To those who took the time to assist during this crisis you are all heroes and your actions are to be commended. To those who lost loved ones in this disaster or were injured themselves the Chronicle would like to extend our most heartfelt condolences.
In spite of the damage done to the Aleris building the Chronicle staff will continue to do its very best t see that the paper continues to be published without interuption. Hopefully next week there will be happier things to report. Until then...
I'll be watching.
