Setting
Eiler
Eiler is one of two continents that have seasonal changes and also plays host to five major cities and two other points of interest. Eastern Aleris' land seems to be in state of constant rebirth where new trees and plants are seen growing just as the old are reaching their end. The continent is a vast land with many grassy fields, several forests and rolling, lush green hills. A calm and refreshing wind forever blows inward from the shore, scattering the spores of all flora as far as the eye can see. The eastern coast is renowned for its beauty, and those who travel there seem to possess a reinforced sense of calm and complacency. Many who have come to Aleris have chosen the east as their home.
Around the city of Jade is the only rainforest on the continent, nestled between the two rivers. Eiler also hosts three large mountain ranges: the Hyperborean Mountains in the north, the Zora Mountains in the east, and the Zuiden Mountains to the south.
There are nine rivers flowing through the continent. The Hyperborean River cuts through the mountain with the same name. The Adriatic River is south of Jade and branches off into the Tamratic River. To the north of Jade is the Maria River and the Tyrrhenian River flows into the bay of Jakob towards the south. The River of Joi branches off to form the Melinda River and the Euphoria River runs down from Rapture Lake. Finally, the Milan River goes through the southernmost part of the island.
Heruin
Heruin is a land vastly unexplored. To date there are only three cities, a prison and the Temple of Tempesturo. Known as the Scorched Lands, it is one of the often avoided portions of Aleris. Full of dust storms, bare hillsides, endless deserts and just a few oases, only those who absolutely must traverse its blisteringly hot terrain dare venture across. No matter the time of year it is, it is constantly sweltering in the southlands and the only source of humidity comes from the mists that seem to travel from the shores to a central area deep in the south. It is in this mostly barren place that many come to find enlightenment, or to test their own worth.
There are two rivers that flow through Heruin: the Claudelle River and the Gael River. The two meet halfway through the continent and form an island in the middle. What lives on the island is so far unknown. No one who has ever stepped foot on it has ever returned.
Those who have made the continent their home have gone through hardships that would break most people. Some have been changed by their trials. For the better? Who can say? The different cities get by in different ways.
Elved
The western lands of Aleris are a stark contrast to the east. While the east may exist as a beacon of nature's splendor, Elved is set as nature in transition. Its lands are thought of as the transitional face of the continent. Trees sprout golden leaves only to have them immediately fall, and the winds are much more constant than they are in the east. There are many marshes and grasslands which seem to have never seen the foot or hand of man, and while it is far from uninhabited it is still the lesser populated area when measured against the east. It is much cooler in Elved and those who live there find life to be difficult, but not impossible. Though lacking in the overall beauty that is seen in the east, it is still an area populated, albeit by smaller communities. Those without the means to build a home in the east often venture to the west due to the lesser cost. It is in Elved that those with the least money and resources call home.
Arthuran
Arthuran is a continent with two halves - one half seems to be covered by a constant snowfall while the other half holds a dangerous number of swamps and marshes. Time seems to stand still in the north. The trees harbor little to no leaves, and those that are there appear to be on the brink of falling. There are much fewer animals to be found, less than even what would be found in the south. The sun is forever hidden behind a line of clouds that look to have no end, only letting the occasional beam of light through, enough to shroud the land in a state of eternal twilight. It is the least inhabited of the four corners, and those that do manage to live there are often those who wish no part of a populated world.
