Aleris

celebrating six years of adventures

Our Voices

"Six, you'll need to step back a bit. I need room to do this."

I was only half telling the truth. I would need room, but I just wasn't comfortable having an angry, naked demon looming that close to me while I was on the floor. Go figure.

Elved

The western lands of Aleris are a stark contrast to the east. While the east may exist as a beacon of nature's splendor, Elved is set as nature in transition. Its lands are thought of as the transitional face of the continent. Trees sprout golden leaves only to have them immediately fall, and the winds are much more constant than they are in the east. There are many marshes and grasslands which seem to have never seen the foot or hand of man, and while it is far from uninhabited it is still the lesser populated area when measured against the east. It is much cooler in Elved and those who live there find life to be difficult, but not impossible. Though lacking in the overall beauty that is seen in the east, it is still an area populated, albeit by smaller communities. Those without the means to build a home in the east often venture to the west due to the lesser cost. It is in Elved that those with the least money and resources call home.

Port Bariston

When travelling from Grand City's Hinewai Harbor, Port Bariston is the first place you will come to whether by boat or airship. From the port, you can either travel to South Bariston or to the north where Bariston's city center lies. The ocean surrounding Bariston is usually full of marine life, so seafood is the number one choice for food consumption, as it is so plentiful. Port Bariston is home to a large number of fishermen, sailors and seafaring families.

Bariston

To the north is the second largest city in Aleris, ruled by Layla Victoire. In contrast to Grand City, Bariston is much more industrialized. Buildings are usually made of brick, cement or layers of sheet metal. The cobblestone roads only hold enough space for horse drawn carriages and people to walk on. Because of this, most stores are inside and no outside markets exist; it is against the law in Bariston to sell wares outside, unless you are at the port and selling seafood. Houses and buildings are tightly packed together and you usually don't see any dwelling without smoke spiraling out of a chimney. Bariston is often described a spider web; the threads being the streets and the spaces in between filled with buildings.

Layla Victoire lives at the far northern end of Bariston, her mansion standing out from the rest. Surrounding it is a twenty-five foot fortified brick wall and inside this barrier is some of the greenest grass ever seen in Elved. It is a great contrast to the rest of Bariston. Hardly anyone goes inside this mansion, but it is said within it holds some of the finest inventions in both weaponry and technology waiting to be unleashed.

Bariston is also in rivalry to Grand City. While Grand City flourishes thanks to all of its natural and abundant resources, Bariston struggles to catch up and so it has turned into a closely packed city bustling with industries. It is often said that Layla Victoire is jealous of Grand City as Bariston struggles more.

South Bariston

In comparison to its main city and port, the southern part of Bariston located across the river is much poorer in comparison. There are some finer houses right along the river, as some wealthier merchant and sailing families live there. Further in, however, most of South Bariston can be considered slums. Housing is built from cheap steel or tin and those that can't afford the tiny little shanties, sleep outside.

Garis Town

Nestled alongside rivers, Garis Town is known for their many watermills. Garis Town mainly consists of stone or brick houses. It is not necessarily a rich town, but it is not poor either. Trees that hang over the town and rivers offer ample shade and the roads are still made of dirt. Garis Town is not a bustling city in the least, but it is worth a visit or consider as a comfy place to live and settle down.

Shimmer Town

Although Bariston is the capital of Elved, Shimmer Town was the first place established on the continent. People who came through Erronei Pass between Elved and Arthuran started this town as a sort of refuge. Most villagers of Shimmer Town come from broken lives and hope to start anew here. Because of this, the town's name originated from a "shimmer of hope". Although not rich or wealthy in any sense, this village is a hopeful one. The houses within Shimmer Town are similar to Garis Town, made of stone or brick. One side of this quaint little village is nestled on a cliff against the ocean and the waters here are so pleasant that it is often a lullaby for some.

Vandual

One of the few towns that decided to make its home within the forest, a stark contrast to Bariston's city. The people of Vandual opted to build within and among the trees rather than cut the forest down. For that reason, the houses resemble upgraded tree forts and many are connected to each other by a bridge in the air, between one tree and the next. There are seldom any dwellings on the ground, as most in Vandual prefer to live up in the trees. It is often said Galenous keeps the town safe for this reason, though no one is actually able to confirm this.

Temple of Autumn

The God of Autumn's Temple is on the west coast of Aleris. The small temple is perched on a cliff overlooking the sea, surrounded on the other three sides by a thick forest. There are several ways out of the temple, but only one way in. Galenous has made sure that only those in search for Tranquility and Order are able to find this respite.
