Aleris timeline
In order to understand what environment your character is playing in when entering the realm of Aleris, it is important to take note of the details below. In the next few sections, we have listed the time period restrictions that Aleris players should abide by in order to create a smooth role playing experience for everyone.
Though we try not to hinder creative expression, the most important thing to keep in mind is that Aleris is a fantasy realm, not one of our own. Most things that exist today in real life will not be present in Aleris, such as name brand items.
Examples:
- Music exists in Aleris and instruments that are present today are definitely available, such as pianos, violins, guitars, etc. However, the same music we listen to today does not exist.
- Name brand food does not exist. Your character cannot go and eat a bowl of Cornflakes for breakfast. You are free to make up any brand names for beverages or food, so long as they do not reflect real life.
- Staying away from pop culture in general, especially language. There are some phrases that should just not exsist in Aleris, like "That's so l337!"
Most things in real life that we are used to with name brands will apply with the examples above. If you have any questions about anything, please feel free to contact one of our GMs.
Era
Aleris is set in a fantasy/medieval setting. It was once described as having a setting that is similiar to the movie Howl's Moving Castle. There are plenty of different races for characters to play as and a various number of creatures to interact with.
Living conditions will differ from how we know it today. Houses would probably be made simply of wood, stone or brick. Although, richer houses in Aleris may be more moderately designed with materials such as marble. There are churches similar to cathedrals and the Aleris Palace stands as the biggest building within the city.
Technology
There is no known electricity throughout Aleris. Objects like computers, cell phones, televisions, etc. cease to exist in Aleris. Most available technology or machinery, if any, would be powered by ways such as water, wind, steam or even magic.
Transportation
Commonly, most people would be seen travelling through Aleris by horseback. Then again, there are people who have their own means of travel such as winged creatures, like angels or dragons. If not by horseback, Aleris has a train that circles around and stops at many different points across the city perimeter. Aleris also has airship technology that is run by city officials and goes to some of the more remote reaches of the land.
Things like cars or motorcycles are not present in Aleris.
Weaponry
The rules regarding technology in Aleris are rather simple. Nothing that was developed past 1890 will be allowed. It's important when using such a common item like any kind of gun, that you at least try to implement some of your own creativity with it. After all, we've all seen popular culture where the main hero has a pair of pistols. Be as unique as you can! Mentioning brand-names such as Glock, Smith & Wesson, or Apple should be expressly avoided. However, you could create your own brand-names for use in the game. Our goal is to maintain the fantasy setting of Aleris, with a few technological marvels to add a bit of excitement.
