The Timeless Race of Kings

Many years ago, the ancient line of Kings who ruled the land of Aleris were both immortal and ageless. There was no definite reason as to why the royal blood of Aleris developed this characteristic of eternal youth. However, it was not without great sacrifice that the Kings obtained their immortality.

Time seemed endless for the kings, but other citizens who lived in Aleris wandered aimlessly, with no real purpose or motivation within their lives. While life inside the palace thrived and continued on, outside the realm was devoid of anything resembling life. The land felt stale; no wind swept through the trees, no waves turned musically across the ocean and the sky always remained a bleak and dismal gray. Life only produced what it needed to sustain itself and nothing more. For that reason, the people of Aleris knew nothing else besides the daily waking and sleeping of life; there were no pleasures of any sort.

The race of Kings, nevertheless, moved on and in exchange for the land's nourishment, they stayed immortal, not caring whether their people felt any sort of emotion. Throughout the course of time, they had forgotten why their lands became so forsaken in the first place - that they traded all of the essence around them in exchange for eternal life. The Kings had stopped questioning their endless lives and instead reveled in the fact that nothing seemed to sway the path that fate laid out before them. The Kings of Aleris were both happy and consumed with an insatiable greed, one that drove them to cling to their neverending souls without noticing the fall of the world around them.

The Human King

It was not until King Alerion was born that the course of fate was altered. When the boy was 12 and had not begun the trek into his eternal life, he spent a great deal of time watching his future people in the city below. He spoke with them, or rather, tried to communicate with them. Through all his endeavors, he received no conversation that was filled with any inkling of emotion. It was not soon after that the boy King realized the people of this land were walking around like zombies and seemed to be caught under some deep, dark curse.

When he confronted the other Kings about all of this, they merely laughed at his concern for their subjects. The people and land were of no importance if the Kings could prosper for all time. Why would they need a community if they had everything they needed right within the palace walls?

Alerion retreated to the silent forest. It was there that he watched a seed nestled in the ground that never bloomed. It could have been something beautiful, but like most things in Aleris... it never felt the need to grow.

The Boy King was the first to ever draw blood within the palace walls. Striding into the Great Hall, Alerion took the Sword of Kings and drew it across the flesh of his forearm. The blood split onto the floor and it was with a terrible wail that the other immortal Kings began to shriek in misery. Before Alerion, the ancient and once elegant Kings began to crumble away. They aged quickly, time etching onto their bodies and creating folds of skin where there was once flawless form. Where they had only worn smiles, frowns turned their lips southward. Their skin became dry and so brittle that they started to flake away. As Alerion's blood dripped across the floor, all of the Kings became nothing more than a pile of dust. It was then that a miraculous thing happened; a sudden wind swept through the Great Hall and carried the dust away.

Soon after, from each corner of the realm came four ethereal figures in perfect unison. The one that approached him first was a woman with stunning emerald eyes. Alerion had never conceived such a color in his entire life and he was unsure if he was actually seeing it correctly. When he asked her how she had come across such vibrant colored eyes, she replied that it was his doing and then set to heal his wounded arm. Searching the four new faces for answers, the beings began to explain themselves.

From the blood of Alerion came a cure and a new light was shed onto the realm. Being the first King to ever sacrifice his own immortal blood, it had put an end to the sleepy era of Aleris. Alerion was so willing to die in exchange for his people's own existence, that it stopped the timeless race of Kings for good. Though Alerion was now very much human, the people who had before roamed his kingdom aimlessly began to wake up to desires and passions that they had never dreamed of.

Nevertheless, humans are prone to mistakes and the people of Aleris were certainly not accustomed yet to having any sort of feeling. The land began to flourish and grow on its own, the wind finally shook the trees and the ocean made noise as it crashed against the rocks. Still, people did not know what to do. It was for this reason the four deities of Aleris were awakened and set free, to help people with guidance in living. When they could not ask their King for help, they would have the deities to pray to.

The Deities of Aleris

Aurora, the Goddess of Spring

The first in the Great Hall was the Goddess with the unearthly green eyes, the one who had healed Alerion's wound. Under her care, she would breathe life into all things and give the people of Aleris hope even in their most despairing hours. If they would open their heart to her, she would show them the ways of the Earth and a season of rebirth.

Tempesturo, the God of Summer

The next deity in line to come to Alerion was governed by Chaos. In order for humans to grow and build their own world, they must understand Chaos. Humans must know what it is like to grasp a situation that may drive them into depression, insanity or a whirl of other emotions people did not feel comfortable with. It is in these desperate situations that people would turn to him to find bravery and know why chaos had entered their lives in the first place.

Galenous, the God of Autumn

Swirling into the Great Hall was the God who had carried the dust of the Kings away from Aleris' palace. The wind drew itself in and took presence alongside Alerion. In light of the previous counterpart God, with Chaos people must also understand Order. With Order, humans will be able to judge things from right and wrong and find an inner peace; they will be able to seek out tranquility.

Elysia, the Goddess of Winter

In the final hour of humans, there must be closure. So it was that the next Goddess stepped towards Alerion and with her brought the act of death. Under her influence, people were able to understand compassion and what it meant to accept those in their lives that would eventually leave the earth and return them to the world of spirits.

Aleris Awakened

Together with King Alerion, the newfound deities assisted the humans and realm with prospering beyond their imaginations. It was under the deity's and Alerion's care that Aleris became not only a reason to live, but also a home that the people hadn't noticed before. Though Alerion was now prone to illness, death and all things negative that seemed worse in comparison to his previous immortality, he was pleased to give Aleris this chance. If anything, King Alerion was proud to open his people's eyes to things they had never seen before - to new adventures.
