Madrin woke up in his bedroom inside Grand city castle. The warrior was confused, because he was sure he was about to die in Heruin moments ago. Sunlight filtered into the room from an open window giving him an idea of the time. It was definitely around noon or else the light wouldn't have been so strong. His right arm was in a sling for the broken collarbone, which made moving his covers a bit awkward. However, he wanted out of bed, he felt sluggish. He noticed Nedira's bed, on the other side of the room near the open window was a mess. Clearly She hadn't been gone very long, the child knew better. The wound on his side had healed up nicely, but it looked several weeks old.

Once his bare feet touched the warm floor stones he enjoyed the feeling for a moment. Then he put his weight on them and dropped to his knees with a wince of pain. While he struggled his door opened admitting Madrin's sad faced daughter. When those warm brown eyes took in her father trying to stand Nedira raced to his aid. "Thank the blessed gods your finally awake papa. I knew you wouldn't die quietly in bed, your too stubborn."

"I hope to die in bed of old age child, it's just unlikely. As a soldier my death will be bloody I imagine. Thankfully, Elysia's final embrace hasn't claimed me yet." The man didn't know why he lived, but Madrin was glad all the same.

Nedira had been growing in strength everyday as she followed the strict training regime her father planned. So with his assistance she helped Madrin stand. "Careful you've been in a coma for two weeks, walking will be difficult for awhile."

Madrin growled his next words with anger. "Two more weeks, I'm glad Mira was here to keep things in order! I'll have to draft a letter to send Elias about this entire twisted incident. Help me to the window, I want to see Grand City again." His daughter nodded and together they took in the capital of Eiler. The Lord Commander was impressed with how far the construction had come. "Nedira please go get Mira, I need to hear what has gone on while I wasn't here doing my duty."

The girl curtsied and spoke her answer respectfully. "Yes father, I'll have a meal brought up for you both as well." She hugged him gently careful of his injuries and kissed his cheek. "I hope your prepared to be swamped with visitors papa, the kitchen staff isn't known for secrecy."

"Aye I know lass, however I've been away from my responsibilities far too long." His daughter left then after taking Madrin to his table that had five chairs around it. He pulled parchment, ink, and a feather pen from a nearby chest and began writing his report on Gethe's actions. He wondered as he wrote if he would see Wish again soon. He loved her that was undeniable, but her feelings were still a mystery. However, the fae woman's soft lips were a memory he wouldn't soon forget. Thinking he was about to die always brought clarity to his life.

Once more, the city had been growing and rebuilding. Since the two recent wars only months ago, there had been a lot of reconstruction to restore Grand City to its previous beauty and strength. Elias was happy that they were finally at a point where the city had returned to that state and was getting better due to some extra construction and planning on his part. The city's defenses had been fortified and much of the housing had been improved upon. No longer was Grand City's castle a skeletal frame of brick and wood; it stood tall above the city and with its new additional watch towers, it had become a beacon of hope so to speak. People were proud of the work that had been done and how they had participated to make Grand City great once again.

Nevertheless, hard work and proud achievements always seemed to be shadowed by ill-tidings, at least in Aleris anyway. Several weeks ago, Elias heard news that the Moon Shadows Inn in Jade City had exploded for reasons that were still unknown to him. This event was prior to the Lord Commander's disappearance so Elias found himself quite troubled when it was reported that Madrin Kir was there at the scene. Witnesses stated that after the inn had exploded, Madrin and quite a good number of other people fled the ruined scene via portal and ended up in the deserts of Heruin. There was apparently a huge battle consisting of someone Madrin was linked to - Gethe.

Madrin had told Elias the story of his lineage once and the history of his family. It now became clear that Gethe was the one pulling the strings and trying to control Madrin Kir. In the end though, the Lord Commander of Eiler was broken from that spell and this was about as much news as Elias received from Mira Blackwolf. The rest would have to be heard from the Lord Commander himself.

In the meantime, Elias did not dismiss the thought that the continent of Heruin had just been subjected to a bloody war. Almost immediately after the event, Elias sent a ship of supplies, extra soldiers to help clean up and keep guard and healers to assist in recovering the wounded. The ship would take a while to get to Heruin, but the offering should have eased some of the suffering and clean up that was now needed in Heruin.

It was a few weeks after Madrin Kir's return to Grand City that he had recovered and sent Elias a letter. Elias had been up in one of the castle's observatories, the room built with columns to open it up and a domed roof so Elias could look out over the city. The letter was delivered by Cyrus Rose, one of the city's captains who wore a look of relief on his face. Elias did too after reading the letter, though there were still many questions surfacing in his head about everything that had happened.

"Thank you, Cyrus," Elias said offering the captain a bow in return. When Elias straightened himself, he looked thoughtful and a hint of a smile appeared on his youthful face. "Tell the Lord Commander when he is feeling better, and do stress those words, to see me. Also, I'd like to hear an account of what happened from Aurora's Paladin. Do have someone send her an invite to the palace, please."

Zaur had been knee deep in investigation for weeks now trying to pin down the exact story behind Madrin Kir's disappearance. That human seemed to attract trouble enough for all of Aleris on his own. He must have been born with the spirit of fire leaving its mark on his very soul. Finally the shifter had gotten a reasonable lead from a vocal soldier in the oak and barrel tavern. The man went on incessantly about the brave Lord Commander. According to the warrior Madrin Kir spit in the demon of darkness' eye as he tore his head off with one powerful hand. The words stunk of fictional tales put forth by a hero worshiper. Another soldier at the table had a different view of the situation. He had heard that the tribal fighter had served the demon and aided in destroying the Moon Shadow Inn. Zaur knew every rumor had some truth in it, the question was how much.

The lizard magus watched the drunken men yelling at each other and knew it would come to blows soon. Zaur was a powerful looking when human, which usually silenced people that lacked real courage. He approached the arguing men and reached them just as the first punch was thrown. He met both their eyes as he forced them apart and spoke calmly. "It is not even nightfall yet, you both need to sober up bloodlust is not needed."

The two men were smaller then the therianthrope, but they were trained fighters. Zaur was hit next with a jarring blow from each to the stomach and face. "Stay out of this big man no one asked you."

Blood flowed from the shifters lip as he stared coldly at the humans. "I guess this must be done the easy way." The two men looked at him shocked for a moment. Words were spoken quickly in Zaur's own language that seemed to stir the air with power. The humans dropped to the floor asleep as the spell took hold. The reporter placed enough coins in front of the taverns current owner to cover the two men's last drinks with a little extra for the trouble. Then he spoke to the owner kindly. "See that those two get to their proper homes." The middle aged man nodded and sent some tavern patrons that knew the sleeping men to tend to it.

Zaur stepped outside and glanced at the castle in the daylight as he pondered his next move. Commander Kir was awake so the shifter was sure he had quite a story to tell. Reed had been kidnapped by an incompetent band of seafarers. However, Madrin disappeared like a shadow in the night. Zaur was sure the chronicle would benefit from a more detailed report. All the second hand information they had received so far was not the most reliable. The shifter started walking toward Grand City's keep with a focused goal.

It had been a while since Wish was in Grand City, several weeks in fact. After leaving Joi and parting ways with Sharay, Wish returned to her island and took some much needed rest. But rest would not come long enough. Not soon after her return, she received a summon from King Elias. It was likely that he wanted to know what happened in Heruin which undoubtedly meant Madrin was still bed ridden - a thought she inwardly grimaced about.

Initially she thought to visit Aurora, the Goddess of Spring after her return. For reasons unknown, she simply could not bring herself to do it. In a way, Wish felt almost as if she had failed in Heruin, leaving so many wounded behind to selfishly preserve her own energy. Would Aurora have accepted this? Wish did not know, but the invite to the castle was just another reason to detain that visit and push it aside.

So soon enough, not a day later and with the sun lifting over a restored Grand City, Wish headed to the castle. In contrast to her recent time in Heruin, seeing the hopeful and healed capital city of Eiler was an almost invigorating sight. Even in the early morning, people were busy and bustling around - the streets lined with merchants and others who continuously looked for ways to clean up and improve Grand City. Despite this, Wish attempted to keep a low profile, especially when reaching the castle. It was not her intent to hide from Madrin Kir, but she feared to know what condition he was in, let alone what she would say to him if she did see him.

With a bit of luck on her side and some added stealthy maneuvering, Wish made it to meet King Elias without talking to anyone except the guards. Elias was in the castle's expansive library and Wish entered into it, taking note that the room had been emptied out of any other people except Elias himself. This was possibly because the King of Aleris wanted a bit of quiet reading time. Elias was sitting at an oak table and upon her entrance, he lifted his hand and gestured to a seat on the opposite side of the table.

"Your majesty," Wish said dipping into a bow. After she straightened her posture, she slid a chair gently across the floor a few inches and sat into it, not wanting to decline the king's invitation. "How is that I may help you?"

"Lady Paladin, thank you for coming first of all," Elias started. "I am glad you returned to Eiler in one piece. Which brings me to the topic of discussion. Can you tell me your account of what happened in Heruin?"

"Of course," Wish said. "As I'm sure you know, after Captain Rose asked me to investigate the Lord Commander's disappearance, Madrin was eventually found in Jade City. You have no doubt heard of the Moon Shadows Inn being destroyed?"

"Yes, I have."

"That is where most of the battle started. It was where the Aliscowri gathered and where eventually Gethe showed up with his servant Atisha. This is also where Madrin was, unfortunately, found under Gethe's control," Wish said.

Wish left out Sharay being present. For the most part, although the woman was admittedly more helpful than a hindrance, Sharay's presence in any part of Aleris was still a touchy subject to put it lightly.

"A fight erupted. Gethe fought the Aliscowri and they fought back. After Atisha was slain, Madrin seemed to break at least partially from the spell he was under. Enough to allow him to follow Gethe and his remaining forces to Heruin."

"Ah, so this is the cause of all the casualties in Heruin?"

"Yes. Gethe had reinforcements. Thankfully the Padishah and Bel Telal were there and had come prepared with their own soldiers. Ultimately, Gethe was defeated and those who were able to, returned home."

Wish truly doubted, contrast to her words, that Gethe was actually dead. She had seen the same thing happen with the demon Six and she fretted inside at the thought of Gethe's possible return. Still, she did not say this to Elias because for all she knew, she could have very well been wrong. There were, Wish noted, a lot of things she wasn't saying these days. Elias appeared to be pleased enough with her brief account of the incident.

"I do not blame Madrin for being linked to Gethe, though it is unfortunate that if just a few in the city find out he is related by background, they would condemn him for Gethe's interest in Heruin and the rest of Aleris. Some people are born to feed off of others."

Wish knew this fact was true, but she said nothing in return and only nodded her head in agreement.

"Thank you for your time again, Wish. I know it was a short visit, but I'm sure you understand my concerns."

"Absolutely," Wish said standing and pushing away from her chair. Elias stood too and escorted the Paladin of Aurora to the door. Wish meant to bid him farewell then, but instead she turned to Elias and asked him something different. "Have you seen him lately? Madrin that is. How is he fairing?"

"I know that he was unconscious for several weeks after he was delivered to Eiler. His daughter, Nedira, cares for him."

"Thank the gods for that child. She will have her work cut out for her," Wish said. Wish noticed Elias had smiled, but after her next words, the King of Aleris' facial expression turned serious. "Something else happened to Madrin in Heruin. I believe - though I am not entirely positive - he may have lost bits of his memory. Take care with him, King Elias."

"I shall," Elias said and with that, the two said their good-byes.

Wish stepped into the castle halls and started to navigate to the exit. The possibility of Madrin losing part of his memory was a thought she had not returned to often. Gethe had tinkered with something inside of the Lord Commander and that something was a vulnerable, usually hidden part of Madrin. Wish had this feeling in her stomach, a hollow-like sensation, that not everything had been rightfully returned to Madrin. Perhaps this was insurance for Gethe in a way.

Wish stopped in the castle's grand entrance way before leaving. She glanced around as if hoping for a sign to linger on. After several minutes though, she lifted her feet and walked onward out into the city.

Madrin worked at his desk for several hours before his expected guest arrived. When Mira came by, she appraised his physical condition with practiced eyes. Then she set about writing down Madrin's encounter with Gethe for the histories of the Blackwolf tribe in case the demon ever returned. Needless to say it was a lunch full of a vocal retelling of the same story Elias received in the highly detailed letter Madrin had already sent(see Abyss of the soul from Madrin's perspective). Then the next few hours were spent catching the Lord Commander up on the status of his Eiler troops from inventory to training progress.

When Madrin was informed a reporter from the chronicle had come seeking him he briefly debated on make a quick escape. Unfortunately he was going nowhere fast today at least, so he waited patiently. Mira took her leave and Nedira came back shortly after the captain left, from letting the tribe know his condition. Within the family structure of the clan Madrin's adopted daughter was a child to them all with a grandmother that had time to dote now that she had stepped down from being Chieftain. Time tended to be forgotten amongst the girls adopted family. The pair looked content as they talked about what Nedira had been up to while her parent was gone.

Zaur came in once he was announced and smiled as he witnessed father and daughter innocently being together. Madrin gave him a short recap avoiding his historical connection to Gethe completely. The therianthrope learned a few things he didn't know about the incident. Such as the corruption of Ironhold prison in preparation for the demon's return. Also, Gethe's weakness to lights power was now going to be common knowledge when the report was done. Madrin stated that he was fairly certain the demon of darkness was gone for good, but cautioned that Aleris had proven appearances can be deceiving. What the reporter learned of Madrin's kidnapping was that the demon had used mind control to take him hostage and control his slave troops. The moment the Lord commander had broken free of his invisible chains, he acted to stop Gethe with all the strength at his disposal. Madrin left out the Almeddans' he'd killed to spare diplomatic problems with the outsiders. Regardless, Zaur got a more complete story than he had previously with no knowledge of what was left out. The shifter left wiser than he had come which was not a bad thing in his eyes.

==========

The next day, Madrin decided to escape the confines of the castle to begin his physical therapy towards recovery. The man took a long bath to cleanse him from his two weeks of incomplete bathing which was tricky with one properly working arm, but doable. He left a few hours after sunrise to see the capital he was in charge of protecting. He was alone since Nedira was still abed. However, as one of the most well known people in Eiler he had no shortage of people speaking with him as he walked along, assisted by a simply carved walking stick with an oak tree on it. The tribal fighter still had his concealed knives, but didn't carry his trademark two-handed sword. The white work uniform he wore was so clean it almost sparkled. Madrin thought the castle laundry cleaners had gone overboard for his sake. However, they were well meaning so he took their intentions as they meant to express them.

When Madrin returned to the castle he saw someone he wasn't expecting. If Wish Star hadn't paused briefly before she walked out the castle gate she likely would have escaped into the crowd before he got there. However, she wasn't lucky enough to escape his gaze today. He was noticeably thinner due to being bed ridden, but his ice blue orbs took all of her in as he approached with the sound of his heart beating in his ears. "Wish what a surprise. Were you hoping to escape me? I believe we're due a long talk about black flames and kisses. I must tell you all I can in both cases, unless your too busy. I have no desire to anger you today."

Apparently getting out of the castle without being seen by someone she knew was not an option today. Her lucky stars (if there was such a thing), had turned against her. Considering whom she had run into before stepping out of the castle, she didn't know if the sudden detainment was a blessing or a curse. Only time would tell.

Madrin appeared practically out of nowhere, or at least it seemed that way because she hadn't truly been paying attention during her hope of escape. Her hurried footfall led her straight into Madrin. Wish put up her hands to stop herself, ultimately pressing her palms to his chest in a less than graceful collision. Thinking back, she wasn't quite sure how she didn't knock him down in his current condition. If there was ever a time when she wanted to overpower Madrin, it would have been then.

After regaining what bit of composure she had left, Wish took a few steps back, her hands dropping to her sides where she eventually looped them behind her back. Wish put on a brave face, despite who was in front of her and despite the sound of her heart thudding in her chest. Though she couldn't see it, Wish could certainly feel the warm blush on her cheeks and prayed that it wasn't too pronounced.

"Madrin," Wish said, his name coming out in a soft sigh.

It was then that Wish took a good look at him. Although he was standing and appeared to be freshly groomed, there were some changes in him Wish noticed right away. Namely that he was being supported by a walking staff, a thought that troubled her, and for a brief moment she saw him age years and years over.

Wish shook her head, the vision in her mind dissipating as quickly as it had come. Although Wish knew he was strong, she knew Madrin was also only human. It was amazing how after seeing such a tiny detail - a walking staff - that it made her realize just how short time was for those of human kin. Her heart, suffice to say, was now laden with an ache that fell to the depths of her stomach and turned to a feeling of emptiness there.

Then again, she was not any different. Her life could have been easily snuffed short at any minute.

In inspecting him, her eyes drifting from his boots to move up past his Grand City soldier's uniform and stopping to meet his ice blue gaze, Wish also realized he was noticeable thinner. Elias had mentioned Madrin had been out for several weeks. His unconsciousness probably allowed him to eat or swallow little to no nourishment at all. She should have been there for him, but instead she had stayed on her island.

Gods, why was it so difficult for her to cling to him and tell him she was happy he was alive and well? Perhaps it had something to do with the wound Victor Sage had left upon her. She still did not know if his disappearance was intentional or not and in the end, she supposed it did not matter. It seemed nearly impossible for her to close the wound that she wanted to leave open as a constant reminder. A warning in her case.

Wish opened her mouth to say something, to break the strained silence that really lasted no longer than two minutes. However, Madrin spoke first - there were things he wanted to explain to her about black flames and kisses. As much as she wanted to, she would not deny him. Part of her wanted to be by his side as afraid as she was.

"It will be a rare day indeed when you do not anger me, Lord Commander. 'Tis not entirely your fault. It is partially the nature of the Fae," she said managing a soft smile at last. Wish then gestured to either side of her with a wave of her hand, not entirely sure where they would go. She would let him choose. "Please, lead the way."

And so Wish walked by his side wherever they were going to speak, always watchful of his current condition.

Madrin noticed the blush that Wish tried to hide and decided it was from embarrassment for running into him. If it had more meaning than that he chose not to think about it. What he had to tell Aurora's paladin could easily turn her away from him for good. However, he felt he owed her an explanation since she was on the Bright Dove with him when Gethe's minions first attacked in Aleris(see For a Childs Sake and a Mans Honor). He led the fae woman to his room in Grand City castle.

Nedira was waiting at his table with the remnants of her finished breakfast, she appeared annoyed. The child got up with surprising speed when she saw the door open. Madrin felt her anger before her brown glare locked on him. Due to his enhanced awareness of rage Madrin was shocked she had enough to set off his alarms. When she saw he wasn't alone she displayed a smile that touched her eyes as well. If she was still angry it had reduced quite a bit upon seeing Wish Star. It wasn't like the berserker could pin down exactly how mad someone was. Either way he was glad his daughter's temper was diminished for the moment.

The girl began speaking in a well controlled voice. "Miss Star welcome, father got up and left without telling me he was going out. So forgive me if I seem upset." Next, Madrin was attacked by a hug that was strong, but careful. She mentally called her dad stupid repeatedly as she gripped him. Then she moved on to hugging the fae woman that wasn't much taller than the four foot seven human child. "I'm glad you're safe Miss Star, I was worried about you. However, taking care of my father kept me busy." The child witnessed her father kissing Wish on Heruin so she believed the pairs' relationship was more than friends. Since Nedira was there during the battle outside Ironhold Prison she knew Wish was able to leave the battlefield, so the woman was in much better shape than Madrin.

The Lord Commander of Eiler waited until his daughter was thru with his guest before speaking calmly. "Nedira I want you to go spend time with your grandmother. Wish and I need to have an important discussion."

The little girl's face brightened once again as she remembered how close mouthed her father had been when it came to explaining the kiss he shared with the woman in front of her. She was very curious about such things, but knew her father wouldn't want her around at this stage in the relationship between the two. So she decided not to make trouble. "Yes papa." She headed out the door reluctantly, after giving Madrin a peck on the cheek.

Madrin counted silently for a solid minute while still gripping the handle. Then he suddenly opened the door watching as Nedira fell face first on the floor catching herself with both arms. "Did you forget something?" The child smiled with embarrassment then collected her dishes from eating earlier, she took off down the hall full speed, Madrin just shook his head. Then he gestured to his table for visitors and spoke again. "Please have a seat this may take some time. I'll start with what Gethe's connection to my family is, if you want to leave after that I'll understand. King Elias and the adult members of my clan know this story, but I want you to know it as well." Madrin tried to conceal his worry over how Wish would take the story, unfortunately he was unsure of how well he succeeded(see Origin of the Kir Family). When he was done speaking he waited for whatever comments she had for him.

Madrin was quiet as they walked - Wish assumed - towards his quarters. Because of this, Wish did not say a word either as she was unsure if he was pleased that she had chosen to go with him or if there was something else on his mind. In either case, she wouldn't have known what to say to Madrin. Her olive colored eyes were continuously aimed at the floor as they made way down the castle halls, Wish ever careful not to bump into Madrin. It was the sound of Madrin's door opening that lifted Wish's gaze away from her boots and towards the entrance of Madrin's room. However, once she stepped inside, she realized that they were not alone, at least for the time being.

Nedira was in Madrin's room sitting by a table and was finishing what was left of her breakfast. Upon hearing the door opening, she almost flew away from the table and looked towards Madrin with innocent fury in those brown orbs of hers. Wish felt this like Madrin, but Nedira's expression quickly changed when she realized that Madrin had not returned alone. He had come with Wish. Nedira's anger was curbed slightly and she grinned sweetly at seeing Wish, speaking in the voice that Wish normally knew of the girl and not one that was laced with rage.

"You've no reason to apologize, Nedira. Although, I'm sure this is not the last time it will happen. 'Tis best that you get used to it," Wish said a light smile on her face. It was true enough; Nedira's adopted father was the Lord Commander of Eiler. He would need to leave at a moment's notice and unfortunately, there was nothing the little girl would be able to do about it. It was his life; a soldier's life. Still, it seemed any anger that might have been present was forgotten as Nedira passed hugs from Madrin and then onto her. "Aye, I've returned safe and sound. With you about - taking care of your father and everyone else - I am sure that you'll soon be surpassing me. Maybe one day you can be Aurora's Paladin."

Wish threaded a hand through the girl's hair, but just as quickly Nedira had stepped away when Madrin told his daughter to leave the room - that he and Miss Star needed to talk in privacy. At this request, Nedira's face noticeably beamed, her cheeks lightened with a blush and her face curious. There were questions she wanted to ask - possibly at their relationship or whatever it was the young girl had seen happen between her father and Wish on Heruin's battlefield. Wish couldn't blame her really; Nedira was at that age where she was simply curious about such things. If Wish had to answer Nedira though, she wouldn't have been able to.

Luckily Nedira didn't stick around to pry or bombard them with questions. Instead, she slipped quietly out the door, or at least that was what Wish had thought. After Nedira closed the door to Madrin's room, the Lord Commander went to it and held the handle waiting silently for a minute or two. Wish wondered what he was doing and was about to ask when Madrin jerked the door open and Nedira went spilling onto the floor clearly embarrassed. She tried to cover this up by running for her dishes when Madrin asked if she had forgotten something. Wish smirked as Nedira rushed out the door, dishes cradled in her arms and was gone for good this time.

The look on Wish's face quickly changed once she realized that her and Madrin where actually alone. He gestured for Wish to sit by the table that Nedira had been at. As Madrin explained that his story might take some time, Wish did accept the offer of a seat, wishing for a second that she had some tea to calm the anxiousness that was present in her nerves. She folded her hands in her lap and sat quietly, her head tilted upwards as Madrin recounted his history and how not only him, but his family as well, came to be.

Wish took in every detail. Madrin's mother, Ranisa, was a product bred for war to aid the evil mage Gertluo in his quest for power and strength. Because of this, she had finally killed off Angeasor, her own father, to show what loyalty she had to Gertluo. For years Ranisa shared the mage's bed and led armies that would crush his enemies. That was, at least, until Madrin was born and he was taken away from Ranisa to be murdered.

Unaware, the mage had no idea that Ranisa had any loyalties to anyone but himself. However, she had secretly hidden her own free will throughout the years and would not forsake her child. Not even an hour after childbirth, Ranisa ran through Gertluo's guards, killing them, and destroyed the mage to save her newborn son. After, Ranisa freed some 200 captives she had previously enslaved and brought them to freedom via a portal. This portal led to a snow-filled land near the mountains which Wish guessed was Arthuran, Madrin's eventual home where he would grow up.

When Madrin was done speaking, Wish saw something in his face that he had not shown before. The Lord Commander of Eiler was worried. Madrin tried to conceal it, but Wish saw a bit of that concern poking through the guarded mask he wore. Perhaps it was her initial silence the frightened him or the reaction she might have over knowing his history now. She felt bad for keeping him waiting, but in truth the right words she wanted to say were stuck in her throat. At long last, she spoke.

"Your mother is indeed brave," Wish said, "and I've no doubt you take after her, Madrin. I am glad that she found her way to Aleris as this realm needs someone like you to protect it."

Wish, not feeling the need to sit any longer, moved from her chair, gossamer-like wings stretching out some behind her. She stood before Madrin and shook her head, her gaze attentive and on him. Her hands laced behind her back, not knowing what to do with them yet.

"I... I am not quite sure what you expected of me though, Madrin. I appreciate the truth as always, but you are not your father despite your origins and no amount of storytelling can convince me of that. It is unfortunate that Gethe has made attempts to use and enslave you because of your past. My worries are that the demon is not truly gone and he will come back not only for you, but maybe for your family... Nedira."

Wish swallowed thickly and she looked down at the floor briefly before returning her line of vision to Madrin.

"I am certain this has all crossed your mind of course," Wish said. "Gethe... does he follow a dead lord, Gertluo, or is it possible the mage will return as well?"

Before Madrin could answer, Wish brought her hands around from behind her back and took one of Madrin's palms. She wrapped both of her hands around his calloused and battle worn hand, holding it tightly as she nodded.

"Please, forgive me for saying so, but... if they happen to return - either Gertluo of Gethe - I hope that you do not fall under their control. I pray for you to be stronger in that regard and to remember those you love. I don't want to - no, I can't... simply can't... watch you fall like that another time. What if you couldn't be saved?"

She accepted his sinister tale and didn't flee in terror as he'd feared she might. The female he desired came to him shyly at first and held his hand comfortingly. When Wish got close to him Madrin's heart felt like it was going to explode again. His love for her was something he felt unworthy of, but he was optimistic and let love in. He was positive as the beautiful woman before him gripped his hand that his mask disguising his feelings had shattered. This bothered him, because he knew Victor Sage had broken her heart once already. However, the desire to confess his feelings grew stronger by the moment. He debated with himself for what seemed like an eternity about what was best for Wish.

To give himself more time he answered the fae lady's earlier questions. "Your concern is noted, if that blasted demon hadn't caught me while sleep deprived and complacent. I swear he would never have taken me. His first action was to rob me of a lifetime of memories which made my willpower nearly useless. Thank the gods Nedira was asleep and the dark one let her be. I shudder to think what could have happened otherwise." Loving passion was drowned in burning rage as he remembered his brief time as Gethe's abyssal knight.

Reason returned from the darkness out of concern for the winged woman since he knew from past experience being touched by her skilled hands transferred emotion. "I'm sorry Wish, I lost myself for a moment. You're the last person I'd want to feel the tainted emotions in my heart."

Madrin's desire to taste her lips only increased as he stared into those olive pools that met his ice blue gaze. "My father made a deal with Gethe for eternal youth at the expense of his soul. When he died the deal was done. When you make a pact with a creature of the abyss eventually you must pay your debt. The demon of darkness absorbed the ambitious fools entire being. That is why Gethe appeared in Gerthluo's physical body. Creatures like that need a mortal form to leave their vile realm. The demon is my father as well as thousands of other greedy pact makers. Thru this method he may return one day, though I hope this battle was the final one. However, on my honor if he should appear again, I'll strike down the beast of darkness as often as I must. It's a duty my clan must see done no matter the consequences."

He placed his other hand on top of his beautiful saviors. A simple gesture, but one of affection. "I wanted share my bloody history, because you deserve to know it. Please tell me everything your willing to share about yourself." The Lord Commander caressed her name passionately as he spoke on. "Wish Star, I have fallen deeply in love with you. That strong spirit mixed with great compassion is a beacon of light in the abyss of my soul. I want to know everything about you." Madrin leaned closer stopping inches from her face as he took in her intoxicating scent. "How do you feel about me?"

The warrior had overstepped the emotional wall he placed to protect the fae woman's feelings from his own. However, he'd always believed in honesty. With the lady he'd fallen for so close to him, he no longer cared. Madrin had to know what she felt for him, holding it in wasn't possible any longer for good or ill.

Wish saw the relief that washed over Madrin's face after she finished speaking. She assumed it was because she had not fled over the tale of his family history. It was not part of Wish's character to reject a person merely due to their past; she believed a person could create another life for themselves if they so chose to. This was the case for Madrin. He wanted to push away from his family's history of being servants for Gertluo, despite how much the evil mage tried to reel him back in. Wish wanted better for Madrin and the Blackwolf clan. She hoped for their hands to eventually be cleaned of the mage and the demon Gethe, but unfortunately, she also knew that when forces of darkness had their sights set on something, a tainted past is not so easy to be rid of.

Madrin said that her concerns were noted and in her heart, Wish knew he had listened to everything she said, yet it did not make her feel at ease. Things could have been so much worse in Heruin, not that they weren't bad enough. Like he said, Nedira could have been hurt and killed. Madrin could have completely lost his memory and would she have had the courage to slay him down with her own hand? That was a question she did not want to answer, although she knew if it came to it, she would have had to stop him no matter the cost, putting aside the feelings in her own heart. Perhaps Madrin was thinking the same sort of thoughts she was, because in those few seconds, she saw the look on his face change from one of relief to anger.

Her hand tightened around his palm as if she was trying to bring him back from that self-inflicted rage. Eventually Wish saw reason sink back into those ice blue eyes of his and she let out a small sigh glad for his quick return. Wish shook her head at his apologies; though his anger could be a frightening thing, she did understand it.

"It is okay, Madrin. I know you did not mean it," Wish said.

The first time she had seen Madrin's rage was when they were aboard The Bright Dove. He had been injured in an attack on the ship. After she healed him and he woke up, he was still been affected by the fight. Madrin had grabbed her hand and for a few seconds, she saw the anger inside of him until he regained his senses and realized there was nothing left to battle. He had explained to her that it was like a storm trying to swallow a person's very essence. It was perhaps the second time she saw this again after he thought of being enslaved once more and Nedira possibly being hurt. Though she hated to see him seduced by this rage, she knew he would come back to reason and that realistically, it meant he felt strong passion for these things in his life that he wanted to protect.

Wish took in everything else Madrin had to say. His words she knew to be true because she had witnessed the same sort of thing with the demon Six. The demon, while on Aleris, needed a body to wander about the realm with. Once he was finally banished, the body died but the possibility of him coming back was there. This was later confirmed by Victor who had previously promised her that the demon was gone, much to her surprise. Despite of the seriousness of the conversation, Madrin did not make the same lie to her. On his honor, if Gethe was to come back, the hunt to get rid of the demon would commence again.

"I appreciate your honesty," Wish said, "and I've no doubt that you or the Blackwolf clan would stop at nothing to put an end to him if needed."

Even though the words were out of her mouth, it was that statement that scared her some. What if a second battle with Gethe would eventually result in her losing Madrin? Her eyes lingered on her boots for a moment, lost in her thoughts, but Wish's gazed turned back to Madrin's when he placed his hand over her own. The mere feeling of his two hands surrounding hers made Wish's heart skip a beat, a feeling that was even more pronounced with Madrin's next words.

Wish wanted to tell him everything about herself. She wanted to tell him about how she vaguely remembered her homeland and her parents - that her kin had been killed in a foolish slaughter. She wanted to tell him she spent years as a goddess in a realm called Oneiro that was eventually destroyed. She wanted to tell him that she had a daughter ages ago who died, another unborn child that perished in exchange for Nedira and that she was well over 600 years old despite her youthful appearance. She wanted to tell him that should a demon or some war not kill him first, that she would likely watch him succumb to age and eventually wither away over time as she did not age herself.

But she said nothing. Her breath had been lost and her voice somewhere stuck in the back of her throat. The weight of his words hit her like a ton of unexpected bricks and she couldn't manage to express anything in return to his heart-felt confession. Although only a minute or so had really passed between them, the time felt like forever. Madrin was in love with her, deeply, and searching through her memory, she could not for the life of her, think of a single person who had shown their feelings so openly towards her. She was a flicker of light in his soul and when he asked her how she felt about him, she was as silent as the dead.

Mentally, she cursed herself.

Movement jarred her out of her state of shock as Madrin came closer to her. His face, mere inches from her own now, studied her own hoping for some sort of answer. Finally, Wish took the step or two nearer to him to close the gap between the two and fell lightly against Madrin's chest, her head pressed there and ear listening to the beating of his heart. Her arms looped about his waist, fingers encircling the fabric of his shirt behind his back. She did not speak just yet, but continued to be very close to him until she could find the right words.

"I... Madrin, I care for you very much, I do. In every part of my being, I know this. Is it love? Perhaps. But, I am hesitant to give my heart away once more, even though I'd like to say it belongs to you..." Wish turned her gaze up to look at him, her hands drifting away from his back to be placed on both sides of his clean shaven face, a few strands of his hair brushing against her fingertips. "There's so much I would like to say to you, but for now, is it simply enough to know that I do care for you beyond words that I'm willing to express?"
