Life had a way of changing around her so quickly she almost missed it. At least since she had escaped her past and struck out on her own. No sooner had she settled in the Empire then she met Akuma and in a whirlwind romance, if you can call it that, she ended up living with him. It was random and sudden but she was the happiest she had ever been in her life! Before she had a chance to really absorb that Akuma was offered the chance to head up Pit Falls in another realm. It was the most successful venture in the Empire under the leadership of the Princess of the realm but it seemed she had little interest in expanding her own influence to Aleris and Akuma was asked to establish the Pit Fighting establishment there. That wasn’t all; Chrysalis herself discovered a talent for writing and had been appointed the Editor in Chief of the Aleris Chronicle.

Everything was coming together but deep down the angelic knew that there was something missing. Akuma had a sister, adopted, but he had helped his adopted father raise her from infancy and was the most influential part of her life. After attending the Empire’s university she finally decided to return to Earth for her schooling and in a switch from her upbringing in New York she chose to go to the opposite coast and attend UCLA! Not wishing to interfere or curtail her independence Akuma made sure she wanted for nothing financially and was always there if she needed him, of course, but he stayed back, letting her spread her wings and do her own thing.

But he missed her and though he knew the dhampir could take care of herself he still worried for her. He would never admit it, but she could tell. Call it Angelic intuition if you will, she could still tell.

It was an act of deception, a very small one, but deception none the less and she hoped Akuma could forgive her what she was about to do. They still resided in the Warehouse in the Empire but during the construction of the Pits in Aleris they were spending a great deal of time there as well. Waiting until he was occupied with the Pits she made an excuse to return to the Empire alone and once left to her own devices within the warehouse she began to go through his papers and files, searching for a bill or a letter that would reveal just how to go about contacting his sister.

“Eureka!!”

Her voice echoed around the empty living room when she discovered the last letter sent to Akuma by his sister and eyeing the address she nodded. Tevy Prism would soon be receiving a letter and sitting down at the desk where the letter was discovered she quickly began to write a letter to Akuma’s sister.

“Dear Tevy,

I know my letter must come as something of a surprise to you considering you probably have never even heard of me. Let me start by saying that my name is Chryalis and I am your brother’s current companion. Please do not worry, he is fine, but I have come to realize as of late that he misses you and would love it if you could come for a visit.

It would be a wonderful surprise for him and I know he would love to see you! We are still living in his warehouse in the Eternal Empire but if we are not there we can be found in a realm called Aleris. There is a portal leading to the Empire’s Embassy within Aleris up at the Palace. Once there one of the servants will escort you to Akuma’s temporary lodgings there. If possible I would love to meet before you see him so I can plan the surprise! If not, your presence is more then enough!

Hoping to see you soon,
Chrysalis”

It would be strange for the other girl to receive a letter from one of her brothers women, especially when she had no doubt never even heard of her let alone met her, considering Akuma’s history and the string of women Tevy had befriended while they were with her brother. This time though she hoped they would permanent and Tevy wouldn’t have to adjust to yet another new woman in Akuma’s life.

There was always the very real chance that Akuma would be pissed at her for this but even with that in mind she sealed up the letter and addressed it as you would a letter sent on Earth and quickly booked it out of the warehouse, the palace her ultimate destination. She knew interdimensional mail was somewhat unusual and seeking out one of the portal guards within the Palace she made arrangements to have the letter sent. She wasn’t sure if it would end up in the mail or simply fall out of nothingness onto Tevy’s desk, but either way, the younger sibling of Akuma Prism would receive her invite to visit though to be honest, the angel was hoping to convince her to stay once she was here.

Utilizing the portal room she quickly returned to Aleris, knowing Akuma would worry if she took too long. Once back she headed to her offices at the Chronicle intending to get some work done while Akuma put the fear of him into the people building the Pits. She hummed a merry little tune to herself as she walked an extra bounce to her steps as she made her way through the crowded streets of Aleris’ capital city. She was excited and anxious all at once, not just because of Akuma’s potential reaction but Tevy’s as well.

It was too late to turn back now, even if she wanted too, and that wasn’t likely to happen. Whatever the result she could only hope they would realize her intentions were good but…

You know what they say about the best of intentions.

He’d always been used to his life being busy. Ever since he was a kid there was something going on that demanded his full fucking attention, whether it was having to train for his next fight, or taking care of personal business, he’d never been able to say he had -nothing- to do, and that had made his past relationships a lot more difficult. The women in his life didn’t always understand that he had obligations, like to his sister. Tevy had always wanted to go to a good school, and he’d promised her that he would make sure she got the best education possible. She might not be his blood relative but she was still his sister and he’d never treated her like they weren’t actually family. After their father died he took up full responsibility for Tevy, everything from making her lunch to washing her clothes. With her having went away to college he felt the same sadness a parent might feel; but at least he knew this was all for the greater good. One day she’d graduate and be on the fast track to a better life. Things might’ve been tough for him growing up but he’d make sure that she never wanted for anything, even if it meant that he had to go without. Still--he missed his sister.

Chrysalis and he had become really, really close. He hadn’t been with her as long as he’d been with some of the other women in his past but already he felt more connected to her than the others. Maybe it was the fact they both came from troubled backgrounds, or that she was an angel, he was a demon, and opposites really do attract. Whatever the reason he trusted her more than he trusted most anyone and that meant he told her everything, from his personal business ventures to his most guarded feelings. That would explain how she knew about his missing Tevy. But, he never expected her to contact his sister, if he had he would’ve told her not to write any letter. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to see her, in fact he’d love to have her around again. He just didn’t want her to leave school or miss out on any of her schooling. Still, he knew Chrysalis, so he should’ve seen this coming.

He’d been at the construction tent which was set up nearby the new “Pit Falls” club, going over blueprints and a bunch of other boring shit. Chrysalis showing up was a Godsend (no pun intended), and when she walked up behind him he practically melted back into her arms as they wrapped around his shoulders.

”Mmm, hey baby girl. Sorry this’ takin’ me so long, I’m just runnin’ on a deadline and time’s gettin’ short. There’s still a bunch of shit t’do, but we’re almost done. I’m tellin’ ya, when everything’s finished this place is gonna make th’old Pit look like someone’s after school project.”

His left hand grabbed her wrist and raised her fingers so he could kiss them. When he went silent she leaned in and kissed his ear, making his eyes shut as he started to lose himself in the angel’s touch. At least until she whispered against his ear that she had a surprise for him. A surprise? Oh fuck, quick, mental check-list--what day was it? Ok, it wasn’t his birthday, it wasn’t her birthday, it wasn’t an anniversary that he knew about and Halloween was tomorrow. So what could the surprise be for? He found himself in a dilemma. To ask about the surprise might make her angry since he had no idea what it was for, but how the hell was he supposed to find out? Ah fuck. Hopefully he could be smooth about this and not get her angry at him.

”A surprise? Aww baby, ya don’t have t’get me anything. I got everything I want with me already--”

Still holding her hand he kissed at her fingers again before standing up and turning around. He let go of her fingers so that his hands could drop down behind her. She was still in her work clothes which was the only thing that kept him from stripping them from her and letting them hit the dirt. Instead he used his fingers to slowly lift the back of the skirt, higher and higher until her ass was exposed to the cool air. They were the only people at the job site so he didn’t have to worry about anyone seeing her, but just so she didn’t feel too exposed his palms pressed against her ass, fingers curling around the curves of it as he gave a tight squeeze. God damn she was fucking sexy.

”-I mean I appreciate a gift, especially when it’s from a beautiful woman. But there ain’t anything I could want more than what I’ve got right now.”

She smiled a smile that had the -cat who ate the canary- feel to it. He knew that kind of smile; it was the same smile Tevy gave him when she “borrowed” his car, or had a party at his house. And just like when Tevy smiled at him like that, he raised an eyebrow and grinned toward her. Leaning in closer he kissed her mouth, running the tip of his tongue across her lips like he was taunting them, and that’s when she opened her mouth and took his tongue into it. They massaged and tasted one another; normally it didn’t take much to turn him on, but with how she kissed--there was something more to it, almost like he had -no- resistance to her at all. To be honest he didn’t want any; since he was going to fall for her anyway, he wanted to fall as hard and as fast as possible--and her kiss was more than enough to pull him down, further than he’d ever fallen for anyone.

When the kiss finally broke he rested his forehead against hers, smiling to her. She was everything he wanted in a woman. Smart, sexy, strong--but still vulnerable enough to -need- him. That’s what he’d always needed, a woman who was capable enough to take care of herself but still wanted him to take care of her. Maybe it was a bit chauvinistic but that’s just the way he was, blame it on the demon, or the human; either way, it is what it is. With her ass held in his hands he lifted her off the floor, high enough for her breasts to be just above his face.

”The curiosity is gonna make my head explode. If ya won’t tell me, can I at least have a hint? I suck at guessin’ but--maybe I’ll get lucky.”

Hopefully, in more ways than one.

Evie had laid low since the fight with her mother made the news. She still had no clue as to what she was. She knew her father was human, or so she was told. Which would have made her, almost human when she was born. But since the attack, she'd been changing and having major issues. There was only so much that can pass on their curses through such an attack. Vampire was out for the most part, so was any sort of Lycanthrope. Shaking her head, she let those dark curls cover her face as she looked at herself in the mirror. What she saw was the same reflection that she always had. Her looks never changed much. Dark hair, dark skin. Her eyes were all that changed. Now, they were such a pale shade of silver that they looked almost white. The only way to tell was the dark cerulean circle around the outside of the iris.

She had heard that Pit Falls was reopening in a way in Aleris, and she had been employed there at one time. She loved it, it wasn't until the overbearing welp of a psychopath made her quit that she realized how much of a tool she really was. Self control had gone out the window. But, now she was alone, and about as happy as she could get given the circumstances that had otherwise fallen on her lap.

Having rented out a room at the local Inn, Evie decided that she would seek out the editor of the paper to see if she knew where to find the elusive Akuma. The man had always been hard to find, even when Evie was a part of the Empire. And well, the whole realm knew that if someone knew where anyone was, it would be Chrysalis.

Pulling her dark chestnut hair back into a ponytail, she slipped the jacket and boots on and headed out the door. Evie had been scoping out the towns around Aleris trying to steer clear of her mother. Their last meeting went horribly wrong. But, she knew that Jezika was the one in charge of the big festival, and Evie figured that maybe she could use that as her big "I'm sorry." to her mother.

Hell might freeze over, too. Who knew.

Anti-social as ever, Evie kind of shied away from people having never learned the people skills that others had. Sure, she had manners and could carry on conversations. But, truth be told, Evie could be a rightous bitch when she wanted to be. And she was proud of it to boot. The air was cold once she ventured out of the run down room, especially on the bared skin of her thighs. The skirt rode high above the boots that hugged her calves to her knees. One thing was certain...

Evie looked a great deal like her mother.

In her features anyway. The hair and such was different, but there was no real denying who exactly gave birth to her, no matter how much Evie used to fight it. It iddn't take her long to get to the building that housed the newspaper and its staff. There was an attractive girl working the front counter. Moving the scarf enough so that she could speak, the girl smiled at Evie.

"What can I do for you today?"

"Well." Evie paused. "I'm looking for your Editor. Is she around?"

"Chrysalis isn't in the office right now. Could I take a message?" The girl was more chipper than Evie was used to.

Shaking her head, "No, that's okay. Do you happen to know where she could be at? Or if she'll be back?"

"She's actually at the site of The Pits. It's being built on the island of fthe northeastern coast. You'll see the shadow of Calypso's temple from there. You can find her there." Office girl smiled again and Evie nodded her head in thanks.

"Thanks, hun. You've been a big help."

Turning on her heel, she headed out the way she came. Using what little magical ability she knew she had, she opened up a small rift and stepped through. There was no way she was trecking that far without complete knowledge of the area. Besides, traveling this was was not only faster, but a whole lot safer.

Being dropped slightly off the ground, Evie landed with a soft oof on the ground. Good thing the boots were thicker heeled. Hands stuffed in the pockets of the oversized, fur lined jacket, Evie looked around before heading to where she could hear voices off in the distance. This was a good location.

There was always plenty of work at the Chronicle to keep her busy. There had been no Editor for quite some time and things had been in absolute chaos when she took over but more importantly it was a full time job collecting the gossip she knew abounded in the realm! With a soft giggle to herself she contemplated getting herself a disguise. Eventually someone would come after her for something published but, it would be well worth it! Never in her sheltered life had she ever had this much fun. Who knew when she and Akuma decided to bring the Pits here that she would find her calling as a journalist? It seemed God hadn’t forsaken the daughter of the fallen angel after all!

Dallying as long as she could she finally finished up for the day and was pulling on a black coat that fell to mid thigh on her, obviously too big and made for a man, when a letter appeared out of no where about three feet above her desk before fluttering to rest on top of the pile of papers already inhabiting her desktop. Excitement filled her as the letter could only have come from one person and rushing to her desk to snatch it up she quickly read the short note and released an excited squeal that had her assistant looking up from her place out front at the information desk.

Now even more eager to get to Akuma she stuffed the letter in her coat pocket and bolted out the door of her office firing off instructions to her assistant as to her whereabouts should something newsworthy happen and then she was out of the building and rushing down the streets. It wasn’t that long a walk to the north eastern part of the island, the newly constructed stone bridge guarded by gargoyles on each end of the bridge making the trip to the island where Pit Falls would now reside making the trip that much faster. Passing by the stone gargoyles on the mainland side of the bridge she waved at the stone edifices jauntily, the heeled leather boots she wore clicking on the bridge as she rushed across the long expanse.

Arriving at the island side another wave was given the gargoyles on that side, something in her told her that they weren’t just stone but she couldn’t have explained why. Heading toward the tent that acted as a make shift office during construction she saw Akuma sitting with his back to her and moving up behind him her arms slid around his shoulders and as he melted back against her she pressed herself against his back, her head falling to allow her lips to press a kiss to his ear. She never realized just how badly she missed him until she saw him again and the ache within her eased. She knew she should be alarmed by her feelings, her life had never been stable and she was always prepared to run if need be, but she couldn’t convince herself that falling for him was a bad idea. She just couldn’t.

Pleasantries were exchanged, his apology for taking so long waved away with the announcement that she had a surprise for him. He stood to face her and she gladly wrapped her arms around his neck, her body pressing eagerly to his as his hands slid down and pulled up the mid thigh length skirt she wore when at the office. There was no furtive glance around their area, she knew he would not expose her if there was anyone else who might possibly see her, she trusted him, which was not something she had ever said about anyone before.

Watching his face as he tried to figure out why she would have gotten him a surprise she nearly burst out laughing when he side stepped having to ask her directly what it was for.

“Don’t worry baby, you didn’t forget anything.”

Finally relenting she assured him that he had not missed an important date but before she could actually tell him what the surprise was he was picking her up high enough that she could barely see his face beyond her chest. Laughing she pushed at his shoulders, her legs kicking in an attempt to get him to set her down.

“If you don’t put me down I can’t tell you!”

The faint southern drawl that always kissed her words with a hint of honey became more pronounced with her laughter but eventually she got him to set her down long enough for her to fish around her pocket for the letter still held inside it. Withdrawing the letter a bright smile curved her lips and raising her gaze until her eyes of midnight blue met his own prismatic gaze she wordlessly handed him the letter written in Tevy’s handwriting that said simply…

“Chrys:

I’m coming home.

Tevy”

“Surprise!”

Watching his face for his reaction he would be able to see the excitement in her eyes shadowed heavily with concern. He might not be overly happy with her interference in his life and was ready to accept his anger with her should he be upset over her actions. Fate stepped in, however, and saved her hide for a few moments longer when a soft “oof” from a few yards off caught her attention and looking towards the opening in the tent flap and the night beyond it she noticed a female figure approaching in the distance. Was it Tevy already? Chewing on her bottom lip in one of her few nervous tells she looked from the woman heading their way back to Akuma and the letter he now held in his hand.

“…Are you mad?”

Unable to bear the silence she finally broke down and asked before gripping his arm and turning his attention to the woman now clearly visible outside of the tent.

“We have company.”

It was one hell of a choice; keep holding her against him which was always a great thing, or put her down so she can tell him just what her "surprise" was. After a few minutes of thinking it over he finally set her on her feet, and no sooner was she vertical than she was handing him a letter. Raising his eyebrow he began to open it, looking to her face as he did so.

"What? Did I finally win the Publisher's Clearing House Sweepstakes? They been promisin' me that shit for the last eight years."

The letter was opened and he looked over the few words that were written down. He didn't even have to read them actually, the handwriting was a dead give away. How many times had she filled out her own sick notes to ditch school and spend her day with him? At first there was no real "expression" to his face, just a few seconds of facial indifference. But in his eyes it showed that he was thinking it all over. He missed Tevy a lot, and it would feel great to see her. But, he didn't want her to miss school, or fuck up any plans she might've had. In the end though it was Chrysalis excitement that won him over. Just as he began to smile there was the sound of a thud outside, and Chrysalis was announcing they had company--perfect timing as always.

"Damn, that was fast. And no, I'm not mad--it's a great surprise baby, thank ya for it. I've missed her a lot, I was just too much of a pussy to want to pull her away from school. I appreciate ya doin' it for me."

After he spoke the tent opened and in stepped Eventide. Well, not who he was expecting, but still a chic that he was fond of. She'd worked for him a while back, and the girl could definitely shake her ass with the best of them. It might not be Tevy, but he was still happy to see a familiar face. Smiling to the girl, he cocked his head to the side and raised an eyebrow slightly.

"Ya get lost again, Eve? Damn hun, it's been a long time, how you been?"

It didn't dawn on him right away that Chrysalis might have no frigging idea who Eventide was. Knowing that the first place a woman's mind would go would be 'it must be his ex' or 'another fuckin' groupie'. Before that shit even had a chance to start brewing in the Angel's mind, he looked to her face and gestured to Eventide.

"Baby, this is Eventide. She used to work for me back at the Pits in the empire, back when I was in charge. She was a dancer along with Syeira. We had these dance routines with the hottest women we could find, well--young women. They were my two best--"

Looking to Eventide he wrapped his arm around Chrysalis' shoulders and went on with the introductions as he pulled her in tight.

"Eve, this is Chrysalis. She's my better half. Don't let the looks fool you, I swear that the woman is a god damn devil in disguise, just waitin' for th'right moment t'suck the soul right out of me. But, what can I say? I love 'er."

Turning toward Chrysalis he kissed the top of her head while the arm around her shoulders began to run up, and down her arm. He knew that up until that moment he'd never said the -L- word to her before, but there was no more denying it. She was all the rights for all his wrongs, and she was the proverbial kick in the ass he needed to keep climbing higher in his life. It'd only been a few months, but meeting her in that bar was one of the best things that could've happened to him. Was he ready for marriage? Nah, not yet--but for now he was happier than he'd been in a long, long time. Realizing he'd been running his fucking mouth since Eventide arrived, he just kind of scoffed and shook his head at being a rambling prick.

"Sorry hun, didn't mean t'talk ya ear off. What's up? Need help with somethin'?"

Before Ryanne could see anyone, she heard that familiar voice. "I'm perpetually lost, 'kuma. You should know that by now." A small smile cracked across lush lips as she spoke. Her voice was a bit on the low gravely side. "It has been awhile, hasn't it?" She paused. "And no, I don't have psycho meat boy with me this time, so don't worry." She held up her hands in mock fashion with a grin. Pale eyes turned to Chrysalis and she nodded.

"I haven't had the chance to meet her yet, but she knows me. I've ended up in the Gossip column already thanks to mom." Evie knew that Akuma would know who her mother was. "Speaking of. She's not here, is she? We're not getting along right now, and this time it's my fault." Not seeing or, well, smelling her anywhere, Evie moved closer. It wasn't that Evie minded being in the news, she just was trying to keep a low profile thanks to a certain ex of hers. "It's a pleasure to meet you, Chrysalis. I see 'kuma here has good taste in women." Though this one was different than the one she was used to seeing with him. Then again, it was none of her business -- it didn't mean that Evie wasn't curious. She was on her anti-men kick, and rightfully so after the last one. However, Evie did miss London. She missed him a lot and could only imagine that he hated her, just as badly as her own mother did.

Evie saw Akuma as an older brother. She never had any brothers and Akuma took care of her when she was working for him, and that was something Evie appreciated. She got distracted by looking around before she heard Akuma speak again and she turned to look at him. What did she need? Well that was a rather long list anymore.

"Well..."

She catalogued in her head what he could help her with. Reaching up, she pulled the elastic band from her hair and stuffed her hands in the pockets of the jacket. "I need a job, 'kuma. I need something to keep me occupied so I'm not so fucking paranoid. I keep thinking he's stalking me." Of anyone, Akuma would know who this 'he' is. "I'll do anything. I'll shake my ass, I'll fight.. anything. I don't have anywhere to belong anymore. Kind of tired of being an outcast."

That and the fact that she didn't know what she was. She didn't feel totally different yet, though she knew she was. No psychotic snaps so to speak, so it was a win win situation for the girl. Looking between the two in front of her, she rocked back onto her heels and started to look her age for a split second. Then again, what's age to a being that never had to? Mentally, she was still much younger than she appeared on the outside.

"I mean, if it's okay to as. I didn't mean to assume you could help me at all. But I figured that if I could find a familiar face, it would be a good place to start." She coughed softly and smiled. Evie had manners... sometimes. Evie had no friends, so to speak, except for Akuma at this point. Which was sad, but in a way for the best. She had turned her back on her family for a man who was nothing but bad news.

Then again, what is life if you don't make mistakes right?

"I don't mind. Talk as much as you want, at least I have someone to talk to." That made Evie chuckle, though it was sad that it was the truth.

The woman was approaching but she deliberately ignored it until Akuma assured her he wasn’t mad, her eyes searching his indifferent expression until she saw the look of happiness fill his eyes. In fact, he thanked her for doing something he hadn’t been able to do. Exhaling a breath she had not realized she’d been holding until that moment she shook her head gently at his words, garnet red hair falling against her cheek as she did so.

“It isn’t as though she can’t go back to school, baby. If she didn’t miss you or want to come home, she wouldn’t.”

Granted she did not know Tevy but she had to assume that was the case. Anyone raised with Akuma would not be a wuss and would have no problem telling her to fuck off if she didn’t feel like returning. Since the girl had replied in record time and was already on her way she could only assume she was simply waiting for the invitation to let her know she was wanted.

Then their visitor was upon them and the tent flap was opening as Ryanne entered the enclosure. She obviously did not recognize the girl but Akuma obviously did so she offered her a welcoming smile but did not speak as Akuma and Ryanne exchanged greetings. She had not quite jumped to the conclusions Akuma feared she would, but that didn’t stop her from reaching out and sliding her hand along Akuma’s back, her fingers looping in the length of manriki chain he used as a belt. It was a subconscious act, a subtle act of possession, marking her territory as it were though damned if she was aware of what she was doing. She’d never been possessive of someone before so did not notice the obvious signs in herself when it finally emerged.

It seemed Akuma knew the workings of the female mind better then she did because his arm was reaching out and drawing her into his side, introductions made and an explanation as to how he knew Ryanne given. Realizing she was a former employee of Akuma’s her smile brightened and then promptly dimmed again when Ryanne announced she had been a subject of her gossip column. She knew precisely which one too given the comments regarding her mother being the reason she was featured in the first place. She had known it was only a matter of time before she encountered one of the people she wrote about. At least she didn’t seem out to kill her as she strongly suspected some of them would be!

“Hi Eventide. Pleasure to meet you.”

She wasn’t without her manners after all and the proper pleasantries were given up their introduction though her voice was a tad sheepish given the circumstances. Hearing Akuma explain who she was to the other girl she snorted and slapped his side playfully. “Your soul? Is that what they’re calling it these days?”

Her words interrupted him briefly but any further comments died on her lips as she heard his next words. “That’s why I love her.” He had never said those words to her before and her head rose, eyes passing along his profile as she digested his words. Now was not the time to get into a discussion regarding their relationship so as he continued to speak to Ryanne she let her gaze fall to the ground, a small smile tugging at her lips as she considered the fact that he loved her. He loved Her. And in that moment she knew she loved him too. She had never truly loved anyone before, not even in the familial sense, and had tried her hardest to resist him given the circumstances surrounding her life, but with him she had been given everything she’d ever wanted. A home, a family, safety, security….and now love. How could she ever leave? The answer was simple. She couldn’t. She loved him.

Realizing she had missed the majority of the conversation between Ryanne and Akuma she forced her thoughts back to the discussion at hand just in time to hear Ryanne announce she was hoping Akuma would want to rehire her for the Pits in Aleris. Without thinking she chimed in with her two cents, that whole brain to mouth filter not working too well most times.

“You can always spy for me at the Pits. I need someone to keep an eye out for anything juicy going on there. Akuma refuses to let me work the crowd alone and I can’t be everywhere at once. Unless Akuma has his own plans for you.”

Hopefully Akuma wouldn’t mind the offer she had just made her but she doubted he would. It wasn’t like Ryanne couldn’t do another job at the Pits while spying on the patrons at the same time. Watching Ryanne’s face as she spoke she couldn’t quite place why she felt somewhat…off…about her. Not bad perse, she wasn’t getting a fight or flight response from her, but there was definitely something different about her. Akuma had been helping her try to understand the angelic abilities she had inherited from her unknown Father, but she still had not quite harnessed them and that fact was evident now. As a being of light, technically speaking, she could sense those beings considered “dark” or “hellborn”, though she refused to call them Evil. Evil was a choice, not a circumstance of birth, in her idealistic mind. That was what she was sensing from Eventide now, something….dark, but she herself was not evil.

Once again displaying her lack of tact she spoke without thinking. It was never her intention to be rude, usually, but she hadn’t quite developed the social filter that most people possess just yet.

“What are you? I mean..what race are you? You definitely aren’t human…are you a demon, like Akuma?”

Lifting her gaze to Akuma she sought confirmation of her suspicion while waiting for Ryanne to respond. If she had better control over her abilities she might be able to pinpoint the race but that level of control was still a long way off. Perhaps if she touched her she would get one of the “flashes” she often got when she touched people. With that thought in mind her free hand reached out to Eventide without thought and her fingers brushed against her arm. The sudden image that flooded her mind had her hand snatching back, a gasp erupting from her lips, confusion written plainly in her gaze as she was hardly well educated on the various supernatural species that inhabited the universes.

“You…you’re a snake?”

Evie wasn't exavtly a 'people person' persay. She had some troubles being friendly and mingling. Then again, she had spent the majority of her life alone, or with family that could really not give a damn about her. Aside from her aunt and uncle, that is. Anyway, her mind wandered a bit again. She noticed the act of possession between Chrysalis and Akuma and it caused a slight blush to creep up the girl's neck. Evioe had had nothing but botched relationships and never really had the chance to bond to anyone -- other than London of course. Shaking her head, she pushed him from her mind, she loved him in her own little fucked up way and the thought would just drag her down to that dark place she stayed away from as much as she could.

"It's a pleasure to meet you, too." She smiled. Of course Evie wasn't mad about the whole gossip thing. She didn't react like her mother did. It was a fact of life, everything you did someone else was bound to see. Which is why it didn't phase her at all. So long as the rumors weren't lies, Evie had no problems. Chrysalis was doing her job, it was a respectable living. Who was she to diss the woman?

Hearing Chrysalis' offer to spy, Evie laughed. "I could do that. I mean, I don't talk much, ask Akuma. I shook my ass and followed orders. Though working the crowds was harder. No one messed with me though. I could pull that off." She seemed to really think about that a moment. Evie needed a job, but more than that, she needed to belong. Never having thought she would crave it as bad as she did, it was different. Maybe it was the fact that she had no friends that did it. The solitary life was getting to Evie, even at her somewhat young age. "I can do anything either of you needs to be done. I have no life, so to speak. So I can be where you need me, when you need me. I'm a pretty good multi-tasker." Unlike her mother, of course.

It often could seem that Evie might be a bit... slow. But that was hardly the case. She took everything in and computed it instantaniously. Mentally, she wasn't as old as she was physically, which was the offset of magic induced aging. But she did well because of it. Looking between the two of them, Chrysalis' question caught Evie off guard and she stared at the woman with raised brows. Blinking her eerily pale eyes, she seemed to think about that for a moment. "What am I?" She repeated. "Is it that obvious that I'm not human?" Self-conciousness flooded over her and she began to look at herself as if there were something wrong with her. "I mean.. I don't know. Exactly." which was true! She had her speculations, but she had never heard of anything like it outside myths and legends.

When Chrysalis grabbed her, instinctively Evie pulled her hand back and took a step in the opposite direction. The word 'snake' etched in her mind. Was it that obvious? Blinking, she reached to tug down the skirt, thanking the higher beings that the stockings and skirt hid the patches of irredecent scales that glimmered along the skin of her thighs. She had noticed that she was growing fangs, but these fangs looked nothing like she had ever seen, and they laid on the roof of her mouth.

"Wh..why would you say that?" Evie stuttered and her voice was working so hard to appear normal. It was hard when one didn't know what they were. This was a hell of a way for it to be cemented in. Evie had been battling in her head over what it could have been. Things were ruled out and things were thought of. Snake had never been in the equation until the nights prior when she found the itching patches of scales.

She had yet to fully transform, but the signs were so obvious. However, Evie was scared and Chrysalis' reaction to her didn't help any. Tears burned in her eyes as she looked between the two of them. It hd been the reason she showed up in Aleris. And being rejected by her mother, she had no idea what to expect from Akuma and Chrysalis. Akuma being the only friend she had, and Chrysalis looking scared of her... Evie was quite possibly feeling like some sort of lepur.

"I'm.. sorry?" She didn't know what else to say. Evie was confused enough as it was, and this didn't make it any easier on her.

The regions of Aleris close enough to the portals had succumbed, one by one, to the wanderings of one, solitary soldier. In the few months she’d spent on the shores of the great land, she’d met very few people willing to talk to a complete, and very random, stranger. Among the people she’d met, a half dozen of the Palace guards, who’d taken to her after a fierce, if slightly one-sided, battle with Maxim, over the life of one of their peers. She’d been worshipped as something of a Demi-Goddess, for simply remaining conscious and alive after the encounter with the Kinslayer just outside of the King’s Palace. She couldn’t explain why she’d launched herself at the then-vampire, in what might have passed for a fit of rage, if Tony was even capable of rage, but was probably some sort of vengeance, or a feat of valor aimed at keeping the lives of the rest of her friends in the Palace Guard intact. Whatever it was, it had led her to some notoriety and not a second glance as she moved around Aleris.

Tonight found her venturing just beyond the city, to a construction site she’d only read and heard about in the paper, but who could believe what they read in that rag? After all, their shoddy gossip columnist had referred to her as a buxom wench in Jezika’s lap! Anyone with eyes and half a brain cell could tell you that Jez was far more buxom and wenchlike than she! The paper aside, she’d heard rumors from some casual laborers who’d cut stone and hauled loads for the construction crews, about the man overseeing the operation, and she’d like to meet him, or see him again if he was who she hoped he was.

The bridge seemed miles long; few people knew, but the vampire had a terrible fear of bridges, or, the huge, wet, slippery…jagged rocks that jutted out from the rivers beneath them. She couldn’t explain it, but bridges had always been the cause of much anxiety, ever since she was a child. The massive gargoyles didn’t help her problem. A vivid imagination conjured up images of the gruesome stone beasts coming to life, and swooping down on her like a flock of seagulls fighting over a single crab, and hurling her from the surface of the bridge, into the crevice below. The most haunting image? That of her corpse, speared on a lance of rock at the bottom, arms and legs spread-eagled, and her face to the sun, almost Christ-like….With a shake of her head, she swept the image from her mind, having reached the end of the bridge.

Hey! She shouted, both hands cupped to the sides of her mouth. “Where’s the moron in charge of this shithole?
And there she stood, virtually unarmed, on the lawns of a huge construction site, the beginnings of a building that would make the Pits back in the empire look like a little kid’s basement fort.
Hey, Lady! Do you even know who you’re talking about?!?” The panicked foreman came running at her.
“I Sure as heck hope I do!” She smirked “I’ll stop yelling if you take me to him!

The foreman was ever so quick to oblige. The quicker he got her shut up, the less of a chance there was that he would hear the dirty names she was yelling at him.
"Show that ugly mug of yours, if there’s a fight for money to be hand; I know you have your fingers in the pie somewhere!" No amount of Shushing would quiet her, until they reached the door to his office, when the foreman clapped a hand over her mouth,
“Would you be quiet??….He will hear you!”

“He’d be deaf if he hasn’t already”

An Old Soldier had come home.

Eventide explaining her situation had him feeling a little sorry for her. She seemed so lost, and not in the same way that he'd joked about before. As soon as she went quiet he started to think about just what she could do for him in terms of work. Before he could come up with a good idea, Chrysalis was throwing out one hell of a good idea. No one would expect a woman, especially a woman who looks like her to be working covertly for someone else. Especially not in a place like the pit.

"Uhh--yeah. That's a hell of an idea, baby. I'll pay ya one and a half percent of the weekly bettin' take, which comes to about...ummm, six thou..give or take a few hundred. Plus, drinks'll be on the house"

A mathematician he wasn't, but fuckin' A if he couldn't keep perfect track of his money. The kind of work she was doing was worth the pay he was going to give her. Besides, she'd be doing Chrysalis one hell of a favor, which he was all for. Anything that helped her make a better column was a good idea, and whenever possible he'd help.

"If ya don't have anywhere t'stay ya can crash at our place. There's a bed and everything ya might need. But that's all up t'you, I just thought I'd throw it out there in case ya just came to Aleris."

Maybe he had a few more things to say, but if he did it all kind of fell into the background when the loud ass voice of some uppity little skirt chaser came onto the build site. A grin came over his face and he laughed a bit. Seemed like tonight fate wanted him to run into as many old faces as possible, and somehow he knew that it was all leading to something bigger. Nothing ever happened just out of coincidence, not in -his- life.

"Heeeey! Is that my favorite little mullet wearin' gun monkey?! It's alright Tate, let'er in."

The door opened and the foreman side stepped to let her head on inside. Tate tilted his head a bit as she walked by so that he could let his eyes linger a bit on her ass. Akuma caught the stare and shook his head.

"It's sweet t'look at man, but don't think about it. Ya lookin' up th'wrong gun barrel. It is nice though, isn't it?"

Looking from Tate to Daytona he couldn't help his grin as it widened a bit further. She was another one that he'd missed. The girl had a great sense of humor, and she had a bit of that -fuck it- attitude that he had in spades. Maybe that's why they got along so well. Plus, the fact she was into chic's made it so the whole sex complication never came up, which made things so much easier in regard to their friendship, and business history.

"How's it goin' grunt? Been a while since I last saw ya. I was beginnin' t'wonder what happened t'you. Oh, I'd also like ya t'meet Chrysalis. She's the one who finally made me stop mattress jumpin'. Baby, this is Daytona. She's a friend of mine from a ways back. We were in a group t'gether for a while, livin' in a house by the swamps back in the deSade empire."

Everyone was talking so much, and so fast that he just spat out everything he thought he needed to before someone else started speaking. With his arm still around Chrysalis, he looked from Daytona, to Eventide, to the beautiful girl next to him. There was something that came to mind that he thought about bringing up, but he decided that he'd give it a minute, let everyone say what they wanted heard, and then he'd have a little conversation with Daytona. But for now, with the 4 of them together, only 1 thing came to mind for the time being.

"Since we're all standin' here like a couple a swingin' cocks in the breeze, does anybody want a drink? Maybe a beer or somethin'? I got a fully stocked fridge here--ya know, just in case."

No doubt they were all gonna be talking for a while. And somehow it just made more sense to him if they were drinking while they spoke....

..drinking problem? Nah, it's never bothered him once.
