Our Voices

"Six, you'll need to step back a bit. I need room to do this."

I was only half telling the truth. I would need room, but I just wasn't comfortable having an angry, naked demon looming that close to me while I was on the floor. Go figure.

~ Memoirs of a Dragon ~

It is not so great a wonder of how the treasured use of papyrus came into existence. Consider the importance of it- no, nothing is happenstance.
Dream willow trees once held the knowledge of all creation within themselves; living keepers of works one could say, before their reverence was abandoned. Many believe that the spirits of the trees fell asleep, died, or simply incarnated themselves into other things. However, that is the way of creation; evolution and revolutions are efficient mechanisms. Power is merely re-cycled. Nowadays, the keepers of works are papyrus fashioned into books. Those who still keep the old ways and traditions believe the words of books live; and their utterance gives power to their meanings.

One of the oldest scriptures read-

Creation is the fruit of my hand and the product of my desire.
So all that I am, is in the invention wielding chaos and order.
A perfect circle I am, having no beginning or ending. In this likeness is given a perfect cycle that performs life and death.

I will bring together, and I will pull apart.
When all things are silent and still, know I will move and stir them.
When all things are raging and warring, know I will sift and purge them.
Balance shall be kept.
Some living things I will command
Some living things I grant will
Some living things I give charge
In return
Some living things will serve
Some living things will choose wisdom or foolishness
Some living things will rule

The great fathers of the earth, sky, sea, and fire I have blessed with wisdom and power
In their nostrils is my own breath.
Foolish sons will trouble their fathers, as daughters refuse the instruction of their mothers.
Mighty rulers will rise quickly in those days, sewing seeds of anger and reaping sorrow.
The air will be fouled by the stench of spilled blood and the water tainted.
The sound of crying will fill the ears of all as the earth's soil turns crimson and becomes barren.
The great fathers will turn away and hide themselves deep inside the earth for an age as I sustain them.
So then the sun will burn the heads of all who cannot hide in its season, and the devastation of bitter cold will imprison with its icy grip in its own.

Eventually such will change and my anger will subside.

~What was~

Long ago in a time when chaos and order were one, the dragon's rested beneath the cool of great dream willow trees. Their breath rocked the lofty branches and the gentle applause of leaves lulled the world. In ages when lairs were not needed, the trees and the soil they were rooted in were sacred grounds; being beds to dragons. Then, dragons had no reason to hide while they slept and the sting of winter was not known. It was wondrously questioned as to the relationship between the great dream willows and the Dragon's who resided beneath their shade.

Legend once told, the scale of a white dragon beheld so much power; a wielder could harness such that could reverse the spin of the world upon its axis. In as much, legends speak of things that no longer are, such is the white dragon. It was thought that winter did not exist, before the white dragon ceased to be. Some say that the white dragon ruled over the season keeping the sort of death it brings to keep the dream willows from slipping into the cold wilting sleep. Others say the white dragon's wings gathered all the snow from above keeping it from making the world cold and barren. Perhaps the white dragons were winter themselves, that kept the balance within their magical scales. Even so, when they disappeared the division birthed such emotion of bitterness and cold the dream willows gnarled themselves together and wilted as their branches were covered in frost and ice.

~What is~

Sacred grounds are now abandoned. Caves are now sheltering lairs deep within the inner warmth of the earth for sleeping. Lairs protected by sentries keeping charge over young, and secretively the scales of dead white dragons are guarded viciously. Guarded with hope that one day when another age would come the Dragon's blessing would be restored along with the Dream willow trees and the White Dragons.

~What is now~

That age has come………

Her time has come. I shall make ready the way.

~When time stood still ~

A low and deep rumble quaked the world, forcing it to be still and listen. Hands as lightening touched down penetrating its fingers into the belly of earth and concentrated themselves; churning the liquid fire within. An issue of water came up and melted the frozen places drenching the dry ground where once an endless blanket of Dreamwillow trees once majestically stood. The waters swelled to oceanic proportion as the lightening faded; leaving calm waters as the sun and moon passed several times. Balance had been restored unto the inhabitants of the realm and the world began to turn again.

Verily, I say it is not finished.

~ The scales of balance~

A great voice called out from the heavens beckoning the mountains open so that the Great Fathers and their young awaken from their slumber. Soon the sky was clouded by the flight of great wings in numbers as many as sands upon the shores. The voice commanded for the scales of the White Ones. As flying snow the scales were hewn down breaking apart into seed-like fragments. The Great Fathers descended and with their tails turned the good soil that was left after the earth filled her belly of the waters. The seeds of the scales fell into the old sacred ground being buried therein. The Great Fathers encamped around the grounds and anointed them.

As flying snow so shall her beauty be.

The first of the Dreamwillow sprang forth; swift was the growth born of awesome magic and power. Branches like many porcelain arms with wondrous strength reached so high they appeared to touch the sky. The leaves blossomed innumerably resembling silvery filigree foliage. The trunk grew to awesome measures in diameter. It was then, from the first of the newborn Dreamwillow trees came she who Kothalus Isbane Jotu did fashion with his own flesh.

From flesh of my flesh, and spirit of my spirit I graft that which is part of me with that of the first of these. I fashion thereof an extension of all that I am which is in all things. As flying snow so shall her beauty be; and her power equal in my majesty. Hail! Incarnate mother of the Great Fathers! Hail Hishouyuki!

Light and darkness are enduring, so shall they balance one another. Let balance be the endeavor of life.
With power darkness does prevail as it gave birth to light.
Of this and that the Dragon is, is everlasting.
If one does live by a swift steel arm, let not his life be as far as its reach.
Wickedness shall not hide from the light poured into shadow’s guise.
Let the light become your path so the way will come of glory.
In the likeness of the Creator you are fashioned by His love . Pursue the same intent in your own ways.
Keep fast truth, count it as holiness.
Keep fast all that which you value, and let all you value be of true substance.
Cursed be those who monger greed and wage war for hatred. Your house shall be first struck.
Be born of the Dragon’s spirit and know its power.
Honor these in all your ways, and inasmuch you are brethren to the Crest.
