Leaning his ear against the wall, he had managed to steal a few moments of sleep sitting on the step. Then he caught the sound of Aursra moving from the tub and the sound of her voice, off guard, directly afterwards. Verial lifted his head from the wall; he was about to open the door to make sure she hadn't fallen when he heard her shuffling around inside the washroom again. However, as he sat straighter, he reached his hand forward to knock gently on the door.

"Aursra? Are you alright?" Verial asked.

As he waited for her answer, the door closed between them, he wondered how he would present the idea of them sharing a bed. He figured that at this moment, she would have probably been too tired to protest. In the days to come, he would be more than happy to go sleep on the couch, but today was different. Eventually he concluded that honesty was the best policy in this sort of situation.

"Listen, do you mind if we share the same bed for tonight?" Verial said. "There's only mine... and I promise I am not a restless sleeper, so I probably won't kick you off the bed or anything by accident."

Was she okay?

That was a loaded question. Getting the shift on over her head, she glanced in a mirror hanging on the far wall. It was a becoming shade of burgundy that somehow suited her, in spite of the simplicity of the linen fabric. She was still a bit more pale than normal, and she was bonier than she remembered; features a bit more sharply angled than before. All in all though, she looked far better than an hour or so ago. She decided on the simplest answer. "I haven't drowned or done too much more damage to myself than a stubbed toe if that's what you mean..." Came the weary response through the door.

Spotting a brush, she ran it through her still wet hair. She supposed she should have bound into into braids or something, but that required far too much effort just then. Leave it for the morning; bad hair days be damned. The brush was set back down, and a guilty glance was given to the room with its castaway clothes and sloshed water. That, too, would have to wait for morning because she wasn't even sure she could make it upstairs at this point.

She pulled open the door as Verial was in the middle of posing his question. Any other time her cheeks might have attained a pretty blush. She'd always been prone to those. Right now, she was too exhausted to care. "Lead the way, my noble rescuer..." She gave a little sigh; a bittersweet smile. She wasn't sure she could promise the same in regards to her being a considerate bedfellow, but other than the last several months, she had been accustomed to sleeping next to the warmth of another. Even as children, she and Angelus had often wound up innocently sleeping in one or the other's bed... and before that, she had more often than not crept into bed with her father... Well, Gwydion... The father she had known and loved, even if it turned out he'd not been hers by blood.

She had always been prone to nightmares as vivid as her sweeter dreams... the curse of feeling so deeply... The Poet's Curse, her dad had called it.

"I don't... I don't really feel up to being alone just now anyway."

It had been a while since Verial had slept next to anyone. There had been Necia and Calamaya both a few years ago, so it was difficult to remember what resting alongside another person had felt like. However, bundled under the blankets with Aursra had brought back that comforting feeling.

The Elvish hearing Verial had inherited (thanks to his father) turned him into a light sleeper. Noises like things dropping or people opening and closing doors had Verial's eyelids fluttering restlessly open. Usually he could only tolerate falling asleep to the sound of a clock ticking or in his current situation, someone breathing softly next to him. So while Aursra slept, the gentle sound of her chest rising and falling beside him, Verial was lulled off to sleep as well. Occasionally Aursra had fretted in her sleep, moaning or tossing to the side, but Verial let her sleep on. As the son of a Dreamer, he knew it was better to let her deal with her dreams - or nightmares - on her own.

He had his eyes closed for a while now and did not open them again until the next morning when rays of sunlight filtered through the curtains in his window. Verial burrowed his head into his pillow for a moment, slowly opening his odd colored eyes to adjust to the morning light. Stretching out his legs once, Verial sat up the blankets moving to his waist and positioned his wings behind him, careful not to accidentally hit Aursra awake with them.

Before heading to sleep, he had taken the shirt he wore off and so when he brought his arm out in front of him, he could inspect the full length of it. After the burns had been healed by Sorvynia, there were barely any signs of the wound left at all. No visible bruises ran along his forearm arm which he was glad for. He already had a nice collection of scars on his torso from numerous people: his deceased nephew Tehran (don't say his name out loud three times), Lumine Ravenholm (that wound was the winner), from himself (no comment) and so on and so forth. Thinking about it now, Verial had been pretty lucky.

And with that, he turned his head to look at Aursra.

For the most part, she had been still. Her exhaustion hadn't left much room for dreams. The ones that did find their way to her in that state of unconsciousness, however, had been bad enough to have her tossing, making startled murmurs and soft protests in her sleep. Most often, this would happen, and she wound up pressing closer to the comforting warmth beside her. The soft feathers of Verial's wings were a soothing familiarity. How often had she fallen asleep in the cradle of such an embrace...? At one point, he likely woke up to find a head of silken ringlets snugged beneath his chin.

So it was unsurprising that his brother had plagued the few dreams she'd had. She'd never shared a bed with anyone besides Angelus after all throughout all of her adult life. There was that ache... an emptiness... that refused to go away in his absence. There were moments that were better than others, but she often wondered if she'd always feel like a part of her was missing. This hadn't been made any better by the fact that many of the illusions her sire had subjected her to had involved her husband.

As soon as Verial had left the bed, she missed that warmth even if she wasn't conscious to that realization. She shifted in her sleep, but this had the light from the window crossing over her closed lids. An arm rose to shield her eyes, and she groaned. A moment later, though, she lowered it as eyelids fluttered... stuck for a brief time between the land of dreams and the waking world. Ultimately, the latter won out, and her eyes opened to find those strange eyes gazing back at her.

She blinked. Then, she blinked again. The night before all seemed a terrible blur, and the blush she'd been unable to muster in those earlier hours of careless exhaustion found her cheeks now, painting them with a rosy glow as she saw Verial in his shirtless-ness and noticed the very sleeped upon side of the bed that was still warm from where it had been newly vacated. "Oh... I... Erm..." What was there to say? "Good morning..." She finished lamely, her blush only becoming more pronounced.

She had slept better than she had in months, and she wondered if she should feel guilty that this sleep was shared with her husband's brother. Naturally, that made her feel guilty for not feeling more guilty. (Vicious cycle, that.) It wasn't as if they'd done anything but sleep. Even if they'd been inclined, she didn't think either of them had even been physically capable at that point. Still, it left her feeling conflicted. In just the last several hours, she had relied heavily on Verial... greater trials, in many ways, than what she'd ever gone through with her husband at her side.

Never in a million years had she expected to awaken in Verial's bed, regardless of how innocent it had been in truth.

~Kyrian~

His gramma called him a boy, but mostly a young man. He wasn't as little anymore as Aursra would of remembered and in truth he was still older than he looked. He like the rest of his kin aged slowly. He wasn't a man yet either just touching on fourteen years old by all appearances and mentality. He had slept through the evening, missing the arrival of his father and Aursra. He woke up hungry though and was rumaging in the kitchen. A kettle was on the fire and he was assembling a plate of breakfast as his gramma kissed him goodbye. She had quietly arrived, cooked and slipped out with only one witness.

He grinned as his gramma held her finger to her lips.."Shhhh" as she closed the door and left.

He called her momma sometimes, because frankly she was all the mother he'd ever known. His gramma didn't tell him that Aursra was there, and it would be an utter surprise to him. But he would know her at first sight....how could he ever forget her?

The children of StarFae, gathered in the mountain Temple, a few priests and a sad few survivors clinging to life and lost hope. He was among those, a once young Prince, heir to a decimated Kingdom. That was such a long dream ago...and there was the lost time between then and now. But Aursra was there, The Story Girl who comforted the children, distracting them with poetry and song.

He ate his toast and began to peel the shell from a hard boiled egg, sprinkling salt on it before sampling it as he sat at the board wearing nothing but his father's sloppy sleep shirt. It being still too big for him yet. His thoughts turned to his best friend Ita, considering how she was probably awake and helping his gramma in the kitchen at the Villa. He would probably be late for their play date today.

Verial had been in mid-stretch when he realized that Aursra had been blushing at him. Verial dropped his arms and walked towards his closet with his back and wings to Aursra momentarily. As he was picking out his clothes and as she was waking up, Verial had an idea. He knew that yesterday had taken a toll on both of them, but there were things that needed to be done. Things that Verial hoped he could help Aursra with.

"Good Morning," Verial began and turned around towards her after he had finished picking out clothes, holding them over his chest so she wouldn't be prone to blushing as much (not that Verial didn't find her reaction slightly amusing). "I hope you slept well. I had some thoughts... about your powers. I have some things we could try out today, that is, if you are willing? And I promise, this won't be a repeat of yesterday. We'll travel a little ways from the Villa for safety reasons."

Somewhere after his suggestion, Verial had been watching Aursra as she sat up in bed and realized he wasn't really waiting for her response to the idea he posed. He was looking at the way her mahogany colored curls brushed up against her neck and how the shift she wore to bed had slid over one of her bare, thin shoulders during sleeping. Verial shook his head and turned his eyes towards the door, pretending as if he had heard something, and thankfully seconds later he did.

"I think Kyrian is awake. I'm going to head downstairs and we can talk some more about it there," Verial said.

With his clothes gathered into his arms, Verial made his way towards the washroom. He cleaned himself up, fixed his hair (though he just ended up shaking it out anyway) and got dressed. When he left the washroom, he could hear quite clearly that Kyrian was shuffling around the kitchen and getting breakfast. Verial stepped into the kitchen, moving next to Kyrian and the table. Layered onto the table had been an assortment of things (which was good, since Verial was bad at cooking): toast, hard boiled eggs, fruit, biscuits, and sausages.

"Did you cook all of this?" Verial asked smiling down at Kyrian as the little boy was about to put another bite of egg into his mouth. He winked at his son knowing very well that his mother had a hand in all the food. Was he thankful for that? Oh yes.

Just before the kettle would start to whistle franticly, Verial pulled it off the fire and set it aside. He gathered three mugs to start the makings of tea and put them on the table. Before Kyrian could question the presence of the third cup, Verial pointed to it and said, "Your Aunt Aursra is here."

The young woman wasn’t even sure why she was blushing. Mentally, she chastised herself. It wasn’t as if anything inappropriate had gone on. It wasn’t even as if she’d never seen Verial shirtless. While she couldn’t recall any specific examples, she knew that he and Angelus had practiced their weaponry and sparring out of doors in the hot, summer sun on more than one occasion while she was in attendance. Of course, she’d likely been writing, which meant that she’d probably not paid all that much attention, but still…

This mental chastisement didn’t do much for that blush of hers, but she had always been a bit on the shy side. She was glad when he started speaking, even if apprehension had her pretty mouth—which was looking a good deal less chapped—curving downward slightly at the corners. “Well, something needs to be done…” She allowed. “As long as we take the proper precautions.”

It occurred to her that he was staring, and her eyebrows knitted together as she tried to cast a subtle glance at what she could see of her appearance. A hand wandered up into her hair to make some mild attempt to tame her curls, and it wandered down after that to find the exposed shoulder. Neither seemed so bad, and she self consciously ran her tongue over her teeth.

Kyrian. She’d almost forgotten that they weren’t the only ones in the cottage. She found that she was both worried and excited to see the boy that she had doted over during his younger years near the time she’d lost her own unborn child. “That would be lovely…” She didn’t know what sort of questions he might have if he even remembered her at all, and she was still worried about that magic…

Verial ducked out of the room, leaving her alone, and she finally moved to get out of the bed. Her feet touched the cool floorboards, but she made herself get up. She was a bit shaky. Every once in a while, there was a slight tremor that seemed to run along her spine, as if the magic were seeking some new release, but all in all, it seemed manageable.

She found the overdress that had been borrowed from Maiwen. It was made of a lovely, soft wool that was a shade of deep blue with sleeves that widened into a wide bell shape to show the cranberry lining that matched the shift underneath. There was gold embroidery resembling vines over the low collar, but it was otherwise free of embellishment. It suited Aursra, who had always had fairly simple tastes.

She found a small mirror, and took a moment to glance at her reflection. Fingers ran through her hair, but she was surprised to see that she looked surprisingly presentable, and it wasn’t just her hair. She was still too thin—only real sustenance could change that entirely, but she seemed less gaunt than before somehow; features softened a bit. Whether it was an allusion of her own magic or had more to do with the concoction Sorvynia had insisted she drink down, she didn’t know, but she was glad that she didn’t feel quite as much as if she were gazing at a stranger in the mirror.

She opened the bedroom door, and she inhaled the scent of food. Gods, but it smelled wonderful. Following her nose, she made her way down the stairs. She had to grasp a bit more tightly to the rail when taking the stairs than she would have preferred to admit, but there was a marked improvement. There was a moment of hesitation as she paused in the entryway, watching father and son… took in all of the food, which had her stomach making a soft growl.

Taking a deep breath, she stepped into the room proper, offering her nephew (How he’d grown!) a timid smile. “Hello Kyrian… I know it’s a bit unexpected, but hopefully you don’t mind the visit?”

She glanced to Verial, including him in the smile. “Someone has prepared a veritable feast!”
