Post subject: To Save a Kingdom Post

This new realm wide storyline takes place after "The Lost Soul of the King" (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=444). It is the continuation of this story and anyone is free to join in. Should you have any questions, however, please contact one of the GM staff.

------

Once upon a time, the realm of Aleris was a dismal place and although the land was not highly sought after, many people lived among its cities, rivers and forests. It was not until much later that King Alerion was able to sacrifice his own immortal blood and save the forsaken lands of Aleris. Slowly people began to awaken from their slumber and realized what it meant to live, breathe and function with purpose. The Alerians now had things to devote themselves to - a newfound feeling that was previously smothered under the shadow of Alerion's deceased brothers.

Time flowed normally for a while, as it should have from the beginning. People began to adjust to their lives and there was a pleasant balance in Aleris that was neither good nor evil. While the citizens of Aleris had learned what it meant to be alive, a thief had crept under their noses and stole the soul of one of Alerion's brothers - a move which would eventually take the lives of many people.

As the intoxicating soul sickness moved in, wrapping its snake-like hold on any life force it could come in contact with, Aleris effortlessly fell to the hands of a bloodthirsty and wrathful man named Lumine Ravenholm. The Alerians eventually reverted to their blank, zombified state and were unable to defend their kingdom against Lumine Ravenholm. In the cold of winter, Alerion's army met with the Redmont Bloodline, the supposed villains of the entire event. Alerion's troops had every intention of fighting the Redmonts in this false battle, but both groups were only lured out by Emperor Ravenholm so that he could kill all of them where the advantage was clearly his.

Many lives were taken, including King Alerion himself. While Lumine was made the new supreme rule over Aleris, in secrecy the Redmonts and remaining Alerian forces banded together to try and retake the kingdom. And they sought to do it quickly, before Lumine got access to any of the other Outer Gates.

Post subject: Re: To Save a Kingdom Post

It was difficult to remember everything that had happened. It seemed like only a few days ago that his entire kingdom was taken by Lumine Ravenholm, but really it had been months. Elysia's frigid winter had come and gone, followed by Aurora's revitalizing spring (which unfortunately did not bring any life to the land this time around) and Tempesturo's summer was rolling in. Under normal circumstances, people would have been out enjoying the sunny heat of Aleris, but these were not typical days any longer. With the soul sickness that plagued those who were born on Aleris' soil, Lumine was free to do what he wished with the people and make them his slaves.

However unbeknownst to Emperor Ravenholm, the Redmont Bloodline and remaining Alerian forces had joined together to form a much more organized movement against the Ravenholm Empire. Alerion was only grateful that the Redmonts had allowed him to even suggest merging forces, as the battle had been partially his fault, a bloody mess manipulated by Lumine's hand.

At the finale of the battle, Ainsley Redmont had drawn open a portal so that the remaining soldiers could escape. Alerion remembered hearing Daphne and Ainsley direct anyone that was in earshot to the portal - their voices rang out loud and clear despite the clanging of metallic weapons and the screams of those who were falling. He remembered fighting side by side next to Cassandra Redmont who had dutifully given Ainsley and the others more time.

It was in this moment that Lumine ordered a wave of arrows which sailed through the sky and met many different targets - one of them being himself. Three arrows had sliced into his body - the first two wounds were not fatal and then the third made its mark through his throat. With a groan and blood gurgling from his open mouth, Alerion fell to the scarlet battleground and perished just outside Ainsley's open portal.

Alerion could not have planned his death any better. He stayed alive along enough for Lumine to drag his body back to Aleris and make a theatric scene out of the whole thing. Lumine stayed vigilante by his dying friend's bedside, tears threatening to drop from heavy eyelids. Those Alerians who had not succumbed to the soul sickness yet were terrified when their bleeding and fading king was returned. And they were even more frightened when Alerion announced in his death that his dear friend Lumine would be the new rule of Aleris.

Days later he returned to the newly formed Redmont camp. It took a long while to convince the leaders of the Redmont family that it was indeed him. Though Lumine felt secure in Aleris, he had no idea the real King Alerion was perfectly safe and was getting ready to reclaim his throne. The body that functioned as Alerion was really not a body at all and was actually a puppet, as were all his other previous bodies. Even if one of his puppets had died, the real Alerion was some place safe that not even the Alerian deities knew the location of.

His new "body" had a different appearance, which was better to fool Lumine with. Though he could have easily assumed the same recognizable face, it was much better to appear in a body where he could roam about and make plans without being possibly sighted by any spies.

There was no doubt in his mind that Lumine would be after the remaining Redmont forces soon enough. So far, they had not come across anyone near their headquarters, but Alerion gathered it was only a matter of time. It was because of this that plans started to unfold. It wasn't just as simple as marching in there and taking Aleris back. No, their small army had much more to do.

First of all, Alerion had gathered everyone together and issued a mission. They needed two people who were quick and careful to travel to the Outer Gates. At the moment, Lumine would be unable to access them gates as Alerion - still alive - had a hold over the them. Nevertheless, given time Alerion was sure Lumine would be able to find a way to brute force them open. One scout was to travel to Eternelle Lune and meet with the ruler in charge of the Empire, Duvessa deSade. Eternelle Lune had been an established gate so getting to this place would not be difficult. The other gate location was much more vague as the word of it had travelled on rumor. Somewhere in the northwest, a gate had opened to a place called Reino Del Hielo. Though Alerion had never been there or met anyone from this new region, he wanted to send a scout there anyway. Meeting with the rulers of these two Outer Gates could potentially give them more forces to work with.

And secondly, they needed to find the thief who had stolen the soul of one of his brother's in the first place. Alerion had an idea it was not Lumine; after all Lumine had no clue what had caused the soul sickness. Right now, the people of Aleris where nothing more than slaves to Lumine, but with the soul restored in its rightful place, the people would be able to awaken, gather together and fight for their kingdom.

Some hope had also been restored to the Redmont family. A spy who had infiltrated Augustgrad in the Ravenholm Empire had apparently sighted Maxim Redmont. Though seeing the familiar face of Maxim (even briefly) was almost inspiring, the spy noted that Maxim was also being led through the streets by some raven winged man as if a prisoner. When the spy reported to Daphne the appearance of the person leading Maxim, she had concluded it was some one named Verial Akilara - a face from the past that was nearly forgotten. But what the two "friends" had been doing in Augustgrad... she could not guess.

They also had an additional upper hand that Lumine was not aware of. Marshall Lyseria was also assumed to be dead, though no one had actually seen her fall. Remains of her "body" were found about the battlefield. It was a tricky maneuver that even Lyseria did not think she would have time to pull off. She had switched her clothing with a female soldier that had died and left her weapons alongside the dismantled limbs. Though she could have remained as Lyseria and planned with the others, this was not the best option at the moment. Lyseria died that day with everyone else and Elysia - free from her disguise - returned to the snowy temple of winter.

No one had ever been aware that Lyseria was actually Elysia, except Alerion, so they were able to use Lyseria's death as something to keep Lumine happy about. Something to make him think he had one less threat to deal about. There was no way she would be able to stay with Alerion right now. As the new ruler of Aleris, Lumine would be expecting all the deities to be in their rightful place should he decide to make a surprise visit. When the time came to it that Alerion would return to Aleris, the four deities would stand with their king and be reunited once more.

In the quickly constructed headquarters, the Redmont leaders and Alerion waited patiently. The notice had been sent out for scouts to Eternelle Lune and Reino Del Hielo. It would be a dangerous mission, especially for any Redmont, but Alerion was positive that they would have more than enough willing faces wanting to get their revenge on Lumine. And so he waited for the first person to step through the door, his respect and fondness for the honorable Redmont family growing more day by day.

Post subject: Behold, the new King of Aleris... Post

Post originally by Character_Lumine Ravenholm

"My loyal subjects -- citizens of both the Kingdom of Aleris and the Ravenholm Empire of the Outlands -- we march to war, against those who would see our union crumble, and our happiness fade. My closest friend, Alerion, was murdered in cold blood by the insurgent forces attacking the Outlands. He ventured to their home, the fortress estate of Northpoint as an ambassador, desiring only to negotiate a peaceful surrender. Instead, the Redmonts ambushed him and slaughtered both him, and the battalion of guards accompanying him." The massive crowd gathered in front of the pedestal where Lumine stood stared, and for a moment, there was a brief show of emotion as angry expressions appeared and harsh words were spoken, but it faded rather quickly. Lumine didn't mind, of course, since mindless subjects were far easier to control than others. Below him, the pedestal had already been engraved with touching words, though the statue meant to be placed there hadn't yet been carved.

In Memory of King Alerion

For he surrendered not only immortality for the sake of his kingdom, but mortality as well. Let no man forget the name of the hero who sparked the torch of life to banish the darkness of emptiness.

It was elegant and simple, and despite the fact that the emotions were rapidly waning from their hosts, it was still enough to stir their hearts with sorrow at the loss of their great king. With Lumine and his forces as the only witnesses to the battle who had returned to Alreris, nobody doubted the validity of his account.

Conquest was almost too easy, when enacted by somebody as treacherous as the Emperor Ravenholm.

He closed his eyes in a somber fashion and lowered his head then, and let a brief, tranquil smile form upon his face.
"Please, citizens -- bow your heads and join me in a moment of silence, so that we may honor the memories of the former King of Aleris, and those who died by his side." Inwardly, he was completely ecstatic about the expansion of his own empire, now spanning two realms with any possible resistance scattered and disorganized. Though Alerion's corpse hadn't been recovered, the female marshall by the name of Lyseria had been brought back... or rather, what was left of her after the hounds had torn her to shreds. As far as he knew, most of the would-be resistance had been completely and utterly smashed in that battle.

When he raised his head and those vivid eyes of bright emerald hues lifted, the crowd gazed expectantly at their new leader, awaiting his next statement. Lumine took his time to revel in the moment, before sweeping one muscular arm outwards in a gesture that was meant to encompass them as a whole, his cape billowing in the light evening breeze.

"We shan't let Alerion's death go unpunished! The insurgent forces who invaded the Outlands and then declared war on Aleris simply because we were allied together must be completely and utterly crushed! We march to war not for glory, or fame, but to ensure that justice is served and that freedom is preserved." That final statement was enough to rile the crowd up, and this time it didn't fade quite so quickly. Men lifted their fists into the air, shouting with approval while women smiled and clapped vigorously; it was quite clear that the Alerisian population approved of Lumine's first act as the new king. He raised both hands in a gesture of acknowledgment with a smile, one that only barely revealed a hint of malice... and even that slight slip wouldn't be enough for any of them to recognize.

"Thank you all! Return to your homes and enjoy your evening, for tomorrow, the combined might of Aleris and the Outlands will mobilize, and we will create a new world order in the memory of your former king, and my friend!" And in response to that last statement, a chant began...

"Long live King Ravenholm! Long live King Ravenholm!"

He'd drastically underestimated the Ravenholms' power. They'd been crushed. Fortunately despite his mistakes, there did seem to be a couple of silver linings. One, the former Alerian army was now fighting alongside of the Redmonts, and two he'd just gotten word that his letter had made it to the wizard.

Kaine was unsure of how the next few days would play out, but he knew that he needed to be ready for anything. With that in mind he made his way back to his small cave. As soon as he entered he felt something was wrong. The vampire looked to the cage that he'd kept the girl and found it empty.

"No..." he began, but was cut off when a small hand came across his face, knocking him off balance for a second. He could hear the sound of small feet beginning to rush down the path to the exit. The Bishop wasted no time regaining his composure and quickly beating the child to the door. "That was Not. Polite." He spat, and backhanded the child back into the main room.

"No matter. You're coming with me anyways." He pulled the Sage child up by her neck and looked into her eyes. "Where I'm taking you, if you make sudden movements like that...you'll likely get eaten. So, you better behave, or mommy and daddy won't have anything to take home but a corpse." He tightened his grip on her throat until she started kicked and gasping. The trick was making sure he only held it long enough to take the fight out of her and not kill her.

She slowly stopped fighting and once she did he threw her over his shoulder. The Bishop really didn't have time for this. Word had gotten around that Daphne had wanted to talk to him as well. The mage knew that it wouldn't be a heart-warming conversation either. He'd insulted the family, pretended to be taking/giving orders from The King, and sadly underestimated their enemy. No, this wouldn't be a happy talk at all.

Once he returned to base camp, he deposited the girl into his room. As he stepped out he stopped a guard. "You. Watch this room. Don't let anyone in. Or Out." the guard looked as if he was about to say something then just nodded. Kaine had become more recognized then he had been. More and more of the family knew him on site and to be honest he didn't like it. The spy always preferred staying unknown to all but Maxim. However with him gone Kaine had done what he thought was right and needed.

Now it was time to see if any of his plans worked out. First to Daphne, and assuming he survived that, to the wizard.

"You're late. Lady Redmont is already highly displeased with your recent mistakes -- if I were you, I'd watch my step," Captain Whitney Blaise spoke up, as Kaine approached the room that she guarded. The reinforced steel door was opened, and the high-ranking Absolutioneer quickly stepped aside and stood at attention, as the Huntress herself moved into view before he could even think of issuing any kind of retort to the sentry. She leveled smoky, gray-colored eyes onto him, and despite the cool indifference she regarded him with, it was clear that he had managed to incite her anger with his massive failure.

Bruises marred the porcelain flesh of slender, toned limbs, and her previous attire had been replaced with military-styled boots that were nevertheless designed for a woman, along with a sleeveless white overcoat that accentuated shapely curves. Weaponry was visible as a result, starting with silver-tipped stakes (ironically held within the same belt her husband once used) along with a pair of double-edged short swords. Those two blades were new, forged with the remains of the sai set that had been a McKennah heirloom; the metal shimmered with an unearthly gleam, and the hilt was marked with the new insignia of the combined Redmont Bloodline, outlined with traces of a softer magenta hue that matched the hue of the sash wrapped around her lithe form. And lastly, a new gun was holstered behind her back, though it was only seen as she turned away and moved back into the library.

"Get in here. Now." Her tone was flat, but it failed to mask the unyielding, fiery rage that the McKennah woman was infamous for. Though she never claimed to be the born, natural leader that her husband was, she was still loved even by those of the Brood -- everybody knew that her loyalty to the family was unquestionable, and unbreakable. When Kaine had stepped into the small room, she slammed the door and gestured to a chair at one end of the table, "Sit." The order (and it was most certainly an order) was issued with a defiant glare, daring him to challenge her authority. Nevertheless, she seated herself in one of the chairs at the front of the table, where the leaders would obviously sit during meetings and similar gatherings.

"For the duration of this meeting, you will speak when spoken to -- or I'll just kill you, right here, right now. I hope I've made myself crystal clear." She had unstrapped the gun from behind her back and placed it upon the table to allow her to sit more comfortably -- and the business end was aimed squarely at him despite the fact that she wasn't holding it. There were obvious similarities between it, and the revolver used by Maxim; though hers was smaller, and the barrel, while round on top like any normal firearm of that type, tapered down into a blade beneath it that extended from the trigger well, to around eight inches past the end of the barrel; Kaine could probably imagine how effectively Daphne could utilize such a weapon. "I hope for your sake that you're listening very carefully."

"Because of your pathetic attempt to try and player 'leader' in the absence of myself, my husband, his sisters, or even Jass Strata, we have lost what was possibly our only advantage: the Gate that led into Aleris. It's a strategic point that we can't reclaim, because we've lost far too many soldiers to attempt such a task -- which was also your fault. And then, as if your first two prime examples of idiocy weren't enough, you weren't present to even witness the slaughter. Ravenholm forces attacked our home because they received word that we were going to attack them, despite the fact that they had far superior forces to our own, and because of it, they now control Aleris as well. Possibly my only condolence is that they failed to kill Alerion or Lyseria,"
Daphne spoke quietly, lining out the full extent of his mistakes and the consequences for them.

Her tone grew increasingly louder, and her temper ran parallel to it, until it was easy to see that she was positively infuriated.
"From this day forward, you will make no decisions without informing me first. Whatever power or rank you might have held before is hereby stripped from you; the price you'll pay for the men and women who died because of your blundering stupidity, 'Bishop.' If not for you, Ainsley and I could have possibly warned Alerion and his court of Lumine's true nature; instead, in one move of staggering idiocy, you managed to not only ensure the Outlands remain under his control... but now Aleris, as well. Bravo. Bra-fucking-vo."

She shook her head, and disgust marred those classic, lovely features as she lifted slender fingers to brush an errant, silky tendril of blonde hair away from her face. A brief sigh escaped her, and she closed her eyes. It was when she opened them, that Kaine would realize that the discussion wasn't over. No, not over at all. Her eyes were ablaze, a brilliant shade of gold that was most often seen during battle, when she let her true nature show through. Though her wings weren't visible, the unearthly light that illuminated her radiant, beautiful features certainly seemed as though it were cast from a halo.

"And I'm well aware that Maxim has given you no orders. What you didn't take into consideration, was that Maxim informed two of us that he was leaving... and both I, and Jass Strata learned of how you'd visit the library where he often could be found, and then use magic to leave. You aren't nearly as bright as you might like to think, Kaine," the Huntress stated, her anger fading in favor of another emotion that would be far more insulting: amusement. In fact, her words gave way to laughter, which she eventually stifled with one gloved hand. She took a moment to compose herself, and then leveled her mesmerizing, golden-colored glare upon him once more. "Both Jass and I decided that a far more harsh punishment for that would be... better left, to be decided by Maxim himself." That would likely explain the reason for her laughter -- and strike fear into Kaine's lifeless heart.

She eventually rose to her feet, and once more holstered the gun behind her back, before gesturing to the door.
"If you have any other schemes or plans, keeping them from me is guaranteed to end in your miserable demise when I execute you for treason. So, if you tell me now, I may convince Maxim to spare you some suffering, Kaine. If not, then leave. I've had about as much of you as I can stomach, for one day." She crossed slim, muscular arms back against herself, one hip resting against the table as she waited for his answer, rather impatiently -- after all, she had quite a mess to clean up, thanks to him.

He sat and listened to Queen Redmont as she berated him. His face a mask in and of itself, even if he didn't have an actual mask on already no reaction, or emotion would be able to be seen. He'd be wrong about a lot of things. Deadly wrong about several things. Many of their people had died.

He almost laughed when she mentioned his "attempt to play leader". He wasn't attempting to play anything. His intention was to get the Redmonts moving. To get one of the big players to come back from where-ever the hell they'd been and take control as they should have been in the first place. He wasn't vain enough to think that his actions where completely unseen. If the true leaders of the Family hadn't known what was going on he'd think less of them.

They'd been working some angle that no one else had seen or known about, which was fine. Of course when all your leaders are out on a mission of some sort for as long as they were, and no one the wiser of what was going on, something bad was bound to happen.

Daphne began laughing about how Kaine was going to be punished for his misdeeds. Maxim wasn't going to be happy about the losses. Could they have been lessened if he'd been fighting as well? Probably. But he'd been busy at the time, and not completely in control of what he'd been doing.

Lumine controlled the Outlands and now Aleris. Kaine had helped that happen. He hadn't planned on that, hadn't intended for it to happen, but it did. Now the only thing he could do was hope that his last plan worked. He barely heard it when Daphne told him that he had to run all decisions by her first. There wasn't anything else that he had wanted to do. Nor anything else he needed to complete. Everything was already in motion.

Speaking of in motion...Daphne asked if there were any other plans or schemes. And once she gave him an opening, he spoke.

"Now that you mention it." he spoke slowly, making sure he was heard and understood. "If you go into my room, you'll find a young girl. She's the daughter of two people who will be coming to get her very soon. Her mother is Khory Bannefin, a priestess from the old realm. Her father, Victor Sage, a hot head wizard, with a knack for being the underdog. I've made them aware that their daughter is here and that they'll get her back after they've helped us get the Outlands back."

"That m'lady, was the first plan I started without your knowledge. I don't know exactly what to expect from the duo, but if the stories I've heard about the wizard are true...it could be explosive."

He watched her face for any reaction, wondering exactly what she'd do. And whether or not he should leave now.

Post subject: Re: To Save a Kingdom Post

He paced back and forth in his room. Odin was mad. No, Odin was pissed. That Redmont girl made him look like a fool. He wasn't a child that needed saving. He would have deflected that knight's blow. He was sure of it. But no, Ainsley pushed him out of the way "saving" him. Making him look helpless.

What she didn't know was that the youngest Kirk had taken care of himself already. He'd been able to do something that no one had thought possible, and he was still standing. Still living to tell the tale. He'd been the one to bring about peace in Aleris. If it hadn't been for him then no one would be able to live in this utopia that Lumine had created.

Odin was going to prove to Ainsley that he hadn't needed her and that he still didn't need her. Looking around his room he gathered his things; a long coat, embroidered along the ends, several rings both gold and silver with blue gems in them, dark leather boots with runes etched all over them. All in all he presented a very clean and well to do appearance.

The last thing he'd grabbed was an ornately carved box. Before setting out he cracked it open and looked inside. It was hard to look at the light that poured out of the small container directly. It pulsed a sharp blue light. He'd taken the light as a sign that it was the one he was supposed to get. Blue seemed to be a family color. At the time it had only made sense that he take the blue one.

His thoughts drifted back to that night. The temple had been poorly protected. Priests made rounds every ten minutes, walking the exact same route each time. Complacency was the mother of incompetence. Just because no one had tried to steal anything from the temples didn't mean that no one would try. Odin wasn't trying. He was doing.

Manipulating the wind around him, the young elemental walked right into the Temple of Elysia unseen. It was pathetic actually. They were completely unaware he was there, well, until the next "round". He chuckled to himself thinking of how the priest had to go and tell his Goddess that he had failed her.

Closing the box, Odin opened the door to his room and made his way through the palace and into the cells. There were three guards watching Ainsley's cell. They bowed as he approached, he was after all the friend of Lord Lumine.

"I wish to speak with the prisoner." One of the guards nodded and turned to open the door. Once that was done they parted and looked at him expectantly. "Alone." he added with a bit of bitterness.

"But Sir...If she were to escape...Lumine would..." before he could complete the thought Odin stretched his hand out and the man was a solid block of ice.

"I wonder how pissed off Lumine would be if I went and told him that three guards were giving me lip?" The other two guards looked at each other and made their way farther down the hall. "Good boys." he muttered more to himself then them, and stepped into the cell.

Ainsley stood before him just watching at first. He didn't know what was going through her head, but he knew he was about to blow her mind. Without a word he held the box out before him and opened it completely. Blue light flooded the room casting a tint over everything. "I present to you, Lady Redmont, proof I didn't need your help. Gaze upon the stolen soul of the King." a smile played on his lips. She would see now. She would join Lumine and Odin. Lumine would be happy.

Post subject: Re: To Save a Kingdom Post

While Alerion was secretly planning with the rest of her Redmont family, Ainsley had done some scouting herself in none other than Grand City. She had been there for a few days, seemingly unnoticed and blending in with the other citizens of Aleris that wandered aimlessly, plagued by the soul sickness that made them equivalent to zombies. She had not been caught until the night she stepped in to - quite foolishly - help save the life of one Odin Kirk.

The very action had caused a messy chain of events which in turn led her to being captured by Lumine. Before being hauled away, she was lucky enough to have Cassandra within earshot so she was able to scream to her cousin to run back to the Redmont headquarters and give a report of the incident - her now captive state. She only hoped that no one had followed her cousin, the Black Widow, back to the family meeting spot.

Despite the desperation and imprisonment of her situation, she was right where she wanted to be - that being in the heart of the lion's den. Though the battle had inflicted much pain upon her body, unknowingly to Lumine the Witch was rather pleased to be where she was, in his clutches with a perfect opportunity to gather information. After all, guards where often stupid enough and they talked about war plans when they thought a wounded, "helpless" woman wasn't listening.

Her accommodations where typical of ordinary prisoners which she thought at first was strange. Ainsley had sooner expected to become some play toy for Lumine and Aubrey. She was put in one of the basement dungeon cells of Aleris castle which Lumine now resided after Alerion's "death". The bars were iron and tightly in place, though parts of the metal seemed to be chipping away in places from age. The floor was littered with old straw and dirt, caked on top with what Ainsley assumed was layers of tears, blood and possibly even dried fecal matter. Her now bare feet grazed over the surface of the dirty floor and her hands searched along the stone wall. Breathing in for a moment, she caught the smell of something foul - a decaying corpse that had been lying in the rather stuffy and hot prison for days now. One might think that with her own skills and powers, she could have easily found a way out of the typical prison cell, but she had been bound by other means as well.

Lumine had made sure she was still properly cut off from the flow of magic; a collar - thin, silver and tight against her neck and wrists - smothered the magic that usually surged to her fingertips. She had briefly felt for a latch to the bands, but it was as if the jewelry was born onto her skin, flawlessly melded together and unbreakable. Even if she could have gotten the collar off, her main casting arm was still otherwise unusable so she was somewhat at half capacity. However, as much as she knew the arm was still broken and unmendable at the moment, Odin Kirk had involuntarily helped her numb the pain. When he encased her in ice, the pain in her arm had died. Now that the ice had melted, she could once again feel a small throbbing but could deal with it easily.

She had been absently rubbing her arm when the sound of approaching footsteps and conversation floated to her ears. She stopped what she was doing and when she turned towards the door of her cell, she found herself face to face with Odin Kirk. The boy looked rather smug and Ainsley wondered what it was that made him look so proud. She walked towards the bars as he spoke; the clothing she wore was still torn in various places and she made no attempt to shamefully hide her partially exposed and bruised flesh as she neared Odin.

The words he spoke were barely audible as her indigo eyes caught sight of what was in the ornate box. Ainsley was no stranger to the form of a human soul and while they came in many different shapes, this was one she was familiar with. This must be the deceased King that Alerion was so desperately searching for, the one that would bring balance back to Aleris and free the people of their sickness. What she wouldn't give to reach out and take it as Odin had shown it to her.

It had become as clear as day to her just how naive and innocent Odin Kirk really was; he thought that the theft of this soul would bring him power and happiness. But, behind blinded eyes the only thing he had brought to the realm of Aleris was thousands of deaths and imprisonment to many who still somehow managed to live - if you could call it that anyway. Aleris was fading and while she urged to tell him what an idiot he was, the Redmont Witch managed to hold her tongue. It would do her no good in her current position. There was only one thing to do.

Ainsley fell to her knees on the soiled ground as if an anchor and chains had been cast upon her shoulders. She daringly reached beyond the iron bars and snaked her one trembling arm around Odin's leg. Her head bowed, now close enough to the door of the cell that she could lean her forehead against his sturdy knee. She kept her face towards the ground as a scared peasant might do when in the presence of a Lord they had just angered.

"I should not have interfered," Ainsley muttered. "How could I have known you were the one - the one to defy the Gods of this realm and show them what their servants are truly capable of." Here she tightened her hand against the fabric of his pants and shook her head gently back and fourth. Ainsley wanted Odin to feel strong and virile; she wanted him to see that he had control of this situation and that she was wrong. "Please, let me out. I will fight the Gods of this forsaken realm with you... and Lumine. I will do anything for you..."

Having roamed the earth for thousands of years as both human and undead, if there was one thing Ainsley Redmont would never be caught doing, it was begging. Her motto was usually very clear and proud - to fight and die with honor as any decent person in the Redmont Bloodline should do. Yet here she was. Ainsley waited for Odin's response, her breath caught in her throat and closed lids covering indigo hued eyes. Her path was unfolding before her; she needed to become a Ravenholm.

An Evening in Augustgrad

After recovering Jass Strata, Verial Akilara and Maxim Redmont set off towards Lumine's stronghold. Though the Emperor Ravenholm was not present, the undead witch Aubrey was and it was upon meeting her that the first revolt against Lumine's forces would begin. Verial took Maxim as a "prisoner" to Aubrey who waited. She readied Verial's reward - the cure for Kyrian Akilara - as Lumine had promised.

Jass Strata strayed behind lingering in the shadows until the right moment approached. After Verial had given Maxim over to Aubrey, her delight in possibly seeing Maxim suffer overwhelmed her and she forgot to keep her guard up. Hastily handing Verial over a vial containing a cerulean blue liquid, that which would cure his son, she kept her eyes focused on Maxim. It was in this second that Verial struck out at Aubrey, delivering a blow to her face. Her gaze turned from Maxim now, this gave the two men enough time to draw their weapons. Though the witch had proved an equal adversary, Maxim and Verial were able to detain her long enough so that when Jass stepped out, Aubrey's fate to return to the underworld was final.

The cure to Kyrian's illness in hand, the three quickly departed from Augustgrad before the guards noticed their leading lady was no longer present. It was not long after running through the streets that they heard thundering footsteps and shouting voices chasing after them. Despite the close encounter, the three were able to flee as Verial shifted to his dragon form and flew off towards Aleris.

Word travelled... through Augustgrad, to Aleris and most importantly, to the Redmont Headquarters. There was a renewed sense of hope that Aubrey had been vanquished and quickly the people began to gather for a fight against Lumine that would hopefully reclaim Aleris.

The Messengers, Cassandra and Aldrick Redmont

Cassandra had way made her way back to the Redmont Headquarters safely after the confrontation in Grand City. She had reported to Daphne that Ainsley Redmont had been captured by Lumine and while she readied herself to possibly assist in rescuing her cousin, Daphne had another task in mind for the Black Widow.

Cassandra and Aldrick Redmont gathered together with Daphne in the Redmont Headquarter's meeting room. Alerion was with the Queen of the Bloodline as the two Redmonts approached. Daphne issued their newest mission - to visit two of Aleris' Outer Gates in hope that the may forge an alliance and have their forces strengthened. Daphne sent Cassandra to locate Reino Del Hielo, Kingdom of the Elements, and Aldrick to Eternelle Lune home of the Eternal Empire. A Redmont spy had let Daphne know of the news of Maxim's attack against Augustgrad and knowing her husband all too well, she could only assume he was now on his way to Aleris and that they must assemble an army and meet him there.

The two Redmonts were happy to oblige with the wishes of Daphne and Alerion, after all... anything that might put an end to Lumine.

Two's Company; Three's a Crowd

Odin had been kind enough to show Ainsley Redmont exactly what she had been seeking - the Lost Soul of the King that had caused all of this trouble in the first place. With her magic flow cut from her, wounded from battle and kept a prisoner in the Aleris castle dungeon, Ainsley unfortunately did not have many choices. The only thing that would bring her close to the soul was to gain Odin's and Lumine's trust.

She had joined them and pledged her allegiance on her knees to the Ravenholm Empire. Thankfully her little act had won over Lumine, but she was still none too happy that he would not release the collar around her neck keeping her magic away from her fingertips. Though she was allowed to clean up and have her broken arm mended by the Ravenholm healers in the castle, her new position meant being Lumine's pet... in whichever way he wanted.

Ainsley was not often permitted to leave Lumine's side without pleasing him in some manner, which gave her little time to actually win over Odin. Instead, she watched the son of Dravvin Kirk quietly from the sidelines until Lumine got tired of her. Her initial thought, upon giving her devotion to Lumine and Odin, was that she might have some equal time with both of them. However it appeared Lumine took much delight in seeing some pain behind Ainsley's indigo eyes.

This began to bother Odin as Ainsley's current situation was not his original intention. It was true at the time that he was angry and wanted to see her locked up, but now he was often forced to watch Lumine with his new play thing and he could tell that Ainsley, despite her apparent allegiance to the Ravenholm Empire, did not enjoy her new position at all. And Odin, torn between what to do, started to see the evil that plagued Lumine and that the Ravenholm Empire possibly had no intention of helping him resurrect his dead father at all.

On one evening while Ainsley caught a few moments of rest, Lumine had awoke her and nudged her towards Odin. Lumine had finally received word that a revolt was forming and was on its way to Aleris led by Maxim Redmont. Though meeting his old "friend" overjoyed him, he was annoyed with having to plan defenses and the like. In his haste, he ordered Odin to take Ainsley away so that she might not overhear any plans and said for Odin to, "Have fun, Odin, but make sure to always keep her within your eye sight."

As soon as they were alone, Ainsley began to speak hurriedly as if it might be her last moment to speak with Odin. "You are doing the wrong thing," she began holding her hands in front of her.

"I know," Odin started and his hands now cupped in front of him held the glowing sphere of a soul, "and we leave tonight, to return this to the rightful owner. My father would have been disappointed in my theft."

"But it is not too late to make him proud of you."

Together, while Lumine had his back turned, the two of them fled the Aleris castle and headed towards the snowy fields where Elysia's Temple was.

Reclaiming a Lost Daughter

Victor Sage and Khory Bannefin had tracked their daughter to the Redmont Headquarters where her captor Kaine Redmont was. Arriving at the Redmont Estate, they were ready to issue their demands and if necessary, kill anyone in their way. However, the whole place was in an uproar getting ready for what looked like an approaching war and they were pointed in the direction of Kaine without any further questioning.

Kaine, still feeling on the edge after Daphne's reprimanding of his recent acts, felt bittersweet about finally seeing the faces of Khory and Victor strolling through the door. Words were only reserved for the important matters at hand - the kidnapped daughter. Kaine agreed that he would of course let their daughter go, but under the condition that the two would assist in the upcoming war against Lumine Ravenholm. Daphne had been under an enormous amount of stress the last few days, rallying whatever numbers they had to fight against the Ravenholm Empire. Adding skilled warriors to their ranks would only soften Daphne's hatred towards Kaine at this moment.

However, in the end it was Victor Sage who offered another proposal. Let Khory leave with the child and that he would stay and fight alongside the Redmonts. It was unfair to have their child be caught in the midst of the war, and if Kaine did not oblige to Victor's request... well he would have just felt the wrath of an angry father (who coincidently has yet to meet his daughter).

An agreement met, Khory Bannefin headed off somewhere to safer grounds while Victor stayed and helped the armies that were assembling.

Reaching the Outer Gates

Aldrick had reached Eternelle Lune first. Though he was not able to meet with the Empress, Duvessa de Sade, or the Emperor of this technologically advanced realm, he was able to have a gathering with Ameerah Amunet and Valorius de Sade. This was good enough for Aldrick, since both of them were willing to listen to the current situation and even consider joining forces. For a few days Aldrick stayed in the company of the de Sade family until Ameerah and Valorius returned. Approval was granted from the Empress and the two de Sades began gathering the troops to assist in the war ahead. Whatever their reason might have been to benefit, Aldrick was relieved that the Redmonts would be charging onto the battlefield with Eternelle Lune.

Cassandra had a more difficult time in her quest as the realm of Reino Del Hielo was not so clearly defined. It had been one of the new Outer Gates so unfortunately after speaking with many people along her travels, she was only met with a mysterious looking portal. With no one else to ask, Cassandra followed her instincts, jumped through the portal and was luckily met with the Kingdom of the Elements.

Once inside she was able to meet with Emily Kirk, wife to the deceased Dravvin Kirk. Cassandra explained their current situation and that should Lumine gain complete control of Aleris, conquest might reach Reino Del Hielo as well and their beautiful land could be taken. For a while Emily thought alone, not having her son around as extra guidance or opinion. Cassandra, patient, watched the Lady of the Kirk family and it suddenly dawned on her just how much she resembled the young man that had assisted in the capture of her cousin, Ainsley Redmont. Cassandra wondered if she should mention something about it, but thought better of it as it might hinder Emily's decision.

Eventually terms were drawn up and Reino Del Hielo readied for battle as well.

Reclaiming a Throne

The assembled armies of Aleris, the Outlands, Eternelle Lune and Reino Del Hielo had reached Grand City before Maxim and his company of Verial and Jass. The number of skilled fighters and mages had nearly tripled, however the Outer Gate regime would still find themselves outnumbered against the Ravenholm Empire. The fight raged below in the streets, in buildings and on hills - wherever one might find footing, there was a fight.

Being that the season of summer was still present, Tempesturo's powers were still in full swing. Joining the fray, the deities of Aleris posed an additional threat to the Ravenholm forces - one that did not go unnoticed. There were very few times when the deities had come together, but in this moment they fought alongside their more mortal defenders and tried to help regain control of Aleris.

The real climax would not come until the ebony scaled dragon flew through the night sky towards the castle. Verial dodged flaming arrows, cannons and gun shots that flew their way making sure that through his evasion his passengers Maxim and Jass were not harmed or thrown off his back. He descended and landed a few feet away inside the castle gates letting the two dismount first before he shifted back into his raven winged form. The three drew their weapons and headed through the otherwise eerily quiet castle halls.

They were met with few people and those who did stand in their way on their path to Lumine, were quickly detained and thrown to the side. When they finally met Lumine, he was sitting alone in the throne room appearing rather smug and confident as if he had just expected them to show up, and in truth he had been saving all his energy for this very moment in which he would come face to face with Maxim again.

"I guess my task was too much for you to handle, Verial Akilara," Lumine began. "And Maxim... always relying on others because you're too incompetent to come here and face me alone. Oh well. All this extra company will not help you."

Lumine wasted no time after his speech and was the first to attack. Together Maxim and Verial fought the beast that was Lumine Ravenholm. It seemed he had shifted to his more demonic form, the one that was shared with Christopher Ravenholm and was even more of a threat as he charged at both of them and fought each one viciously. They were on their toes, nevertheless, and were also trying to give Jass Strata time while she summoned a spell, one which would hopefully seal away Lumine and the company he kept inside of him.

Verial became more of a distraction as Maxim worked to unhinge the armor that kept Lumine safe and a near unstoppable force. It was during this time that the army started filtering in through the castle; the Ravenholm forces had been taken in Grand City. As a few people had poured into the throne room, the sound of the thundering footsteps drew away Verial's attention from Lumine. Concerned with whether they were more Ravenholm forces or not, this new gathering turned his attention away for a split second too long. Before he could jump away or block the dangerous claws of the demon, Lumine had sliced a blade like claw through Verial's abdomen. Poison and a hole gaping open in his body, Verial fell knees first to the floor sliding away almost easily from Lumine's blood soaked talon.

In this defeat, Lumine stole his chance to gloat, one which he should have not taken. Though his friend had been mortally wounded, Maxim had wrenched the armor from Lumine and before the Ravenholm leader realized it, Maxim was now fighting the side of Lumine that was more man then beast. In a final, agonizing slash Lumine's head tumbled down from his neck screaming only momentarily as it rolled across the floor a few feet. Maxim turned to Jass and gave her the signal to unleash her spell which sealed the armor and soul of Christopher Ravenholm that Lumine once wore.

Maxim looked down at his fallen friend and noticed in his hand strangely Verial still held the cure that would cure his son Kyrian. Verial was still breathing, though faintly, and had fallen unconscious from the poison in the wound. Even after Lumine had been defeated, there was little time to celebrate. After all, there was so much more to finish - for everyone.

Loose Ends

There are some outcomes which are certain and others which are not...

Lyseria had revealed herself as the Goddess of Winter, Elysia. While no one seemed upset by this, she thanked as many as she could for helping return the realm of Aleris to their rightful king and hoped that the continued visits of Eternelle Lune and Reino Del Hielo folks would continue. Elysia has since returned to her temple still waiting to find the lost soul of Alerion's brother before another uprise should occur.

The body of Alasiah Bluefield had never been found. It is unsure of whether she died at the fight at the Redmont headquarters a long time ago or not.

Able to reclaim their home, most of the Redmonts head back to the Outlands and began to rebuild under the command of Daphne.

Ainsley and Odin had finally neared Elysia's Temple with the soul in hand. Unaware that Lumine had been defeated, both focused on restoring the rightful balance of the Alerian people.

Not quite ready to become a father yet, Victor lingered on in Aleris helping restore the city that had been ravaged throughout the battle.

Leaders of the Outer Gates had returned back to their homes but a more formal alliance was drawn up with King Alerion, one that opened up trade and free access between gates as long a peace between the nations remained.

King Alerion, having settled back in the castle, began to repair his city. And although most of his people were still under the soul sickness, he was confident the balance would be restored soon, as well as his beloved Grand City.

Verial Akilara, shortly after the battle, had been taken back to his home, the Villa, in hopes that his mother would be present. He was carried by Maxim himself, but the Kinslayer did not linger there. He only stayed long enough to let Sorvynia know that the liquid he held out to her was the cure Verial worked to get for his son.

No one was quite sure of Verial's survival rate under the care of his mother, an expert healer, or the destination in which Maxim Redmont went afterwards.
