"Not at all! Baby’s heartbeat is very strong. Growing like a weed actually. With Verial's super sperm and your iron womb, nothing short of a bomb is going to bother that child."

"That's...wow, did you just say 'super sperm'?"

"I did. How does that make you feel?"

"I might vomit."

Power. Coveted by most..held by few…a wonderful thing..until it isn’t. What good is power, even immense power, if it is hindered by a physical shell incapable of harnessing its full potential? It is still power, it still serves a purpose, but it is limited..stunted by an inability to grow beyond its means.

For the most part this never caused a problem, the power housed within her physical shell more than enough to see to her needs and then some. Until now. Until this..entity..that had plagued her life since her birth in an attempt to exact some misbegotten notion of revenge on her parents stepped up its game and stopped attacking just her. Now it was attacking those under her protection. Those who depended on her to keep them safe. Those who meant anything to her or had any connection to her.

Already it had begun with the destruction of the de Sade wolf pack in New Orleans leaving only those loup garou who had left the New Orleans compound alive. Those numbers were small and growing smaller by the day. There were pack members unaccounted for, those who had taken off to explore the universe and the various worlds and dimensions within it that had not been seen or heard from in years. If not for the pack bonds she would have had no idea they were even still alive but so long as those bonds existed she didn’t worry….usually. There had been plenty to worry her as of late.

Unable to track an entity who for years had evaded detection from everyone, her parents included, she’d turned her attention towards protecting those who were still vulnerable since her nemesis seemed no longer content with attacking her directly. The realization that the one who slaughtered her pack was also the same creature that had ensured she’d end up stolen from her family and later sold as a slave had come as a shock, naturally, but had unfortunately offered little insight as to just who the entity was and why they had targeted her. Unfortunately she could do little towards protecting those who wandered beyond sending messengers bearing Communication Stones with a message from her imbedded within it to take extra care and to return to Eternelle Lune if possible. Those messengers were given trackers that would allow them to locate pack members but it was still a matter of finding the right dimension, reality, and timeline to track them in and that was not as easy as it sounded.

She was with Valorius when it happened, in the sub-level beneath the Eternal Embassy where the Protectorate kept their base while in Aleris. They were training and he was pushing her beyond the level of her endurance, at her request, in her ongoing efforts to make herself strong enough to combat whatever was coming for her, for them all. It wasn’t a vision but rather a sudden…tearing. A soul deep wrenching that heralded the death of those who held a blood tie with her and it brought with it a pain intense enough to drop her to her hands and knees.

She could do little more than scream in pain and fury as she felt bond after bond ripping uncontrollably away from her. Curran, Enora, Mirielle, Arielle…even Cairenn who had been living in Eternelle Lune…all of them..gone. Dead. Their pack bond severed with the loss of their lives.

She felt arms around her as Valorius held her to him, needing no explanation as he felt what she felt, until he eased her up to her feet, his arms still protectively around her. It had been his intention to lead her through the under ground tunnels that would lead to the home they shared in one of the outlying buildings at the Embassy but they had taken only a few steps before another warning went off, this one a Protectorate alarm indicating a holding in Eternelle Lune had been attacked. This was Valorius’ domain and she felt his arms slide from around her as he went to the magically crafted console that allowed them to monitor all their holdings both within Eternelle Lune and Aleris.

A series of verbal commands was spoken by Valorius and in a moment a glowing green orb appeared over the table that housed the magically crafted monitoring system using precious gems and soul energy. There was no image, however, and there should have been something within the depths of the glowing green orb to indicate where the attack had occurred. It took several long minutes, so much so that they had begun to wonder if it had been a glitch in the system, when the orb finally cleared and revealed the image of Mount Cithaeron, Callidora’s Temple, and as the image enhanced, moving closer to the temple, they could see the outline of the bodies of the human attendants who had sought to protect the Temple from its attackers.

She knew without being told that the attack on the Temple was related, was part of all of this, and she knew precisely why. The entity had discovered Callidora and her siblings, Cytara and Seterios, were her cousins. Not wolves but still of her blood line. The image continued to enhance as Valorius tried to establish direct contact with someone within the temple. It took some doing but eventually the image within the org changed as he established contact, Maniac’s face the one they saw rather than Callidora’s. Coming to stand next to Valorius, well, lean heavily against him rather, she gazed on the image of her ex-husband who began speaking in earnest with her new husband.

She listened without comment as Maniac described how a large group of people, both human and non, had appeared and attacked the temple, killing anyone in their path. They hadn’t seemed to care about the valuables held within the temple or even any of the temple attendants. They had been interested in reaching only two within the temple walls, Callidora and her sister, Cytara. Their brother, Seterios, was rarely at the temple so for now was safe.

The make shift army managed to kill all those who stood in their way as they fought their way towards the Temple’s Goddess, Callidora. They were ill prepared, however, to be met with one of the oldest and fiercest Death Dealers ever produced by the vampire clans. Maniac was the best at what he did, a centuries old soldier and powerful First Breed besides, and it was his woman they threatened. He’d made sure Callidora was safe but Cytara had been killed in the fighting, the mentally enslaved combatants eventually falling in the face of Maniac’s skill and Callidora’s power. Though a minor god she was still a divine entity and it was she who sensed the otherness of those they fought.

Just as Maniac began describing what Callidora had felt about their attackers she joined him, her image now visible within the orb which had grown in size to accommodate the extra image. Once the two women would have gone for one another’s throat, but now..now they just offered one another a shadowed smile, Calldora's anger and grief apparent in her face.

”This thing wants to destroy thee very badly, Ameerah. It wishes revenge but it also wishes power. It was here…I could sense it..as if it were piloting the people who attacked us. Controlling them. But there was more…it was here…I could sense its presence the moment it stepped onto my land only it never physically appeared. It is traveling through the astral. It did not just wish me dead…it wished my power. I have no doubt had I been injured or weakened..it would have taken it. It is feeding on those with power, trying to make it self stronger. Strong enough to kill you.”

Callidora’s words were not exactly shocking but now they knew exactly what this thing they were facing could do and she understood now why so many of her own had died simultaneously, beyond her reach. Why this thing was always one step ahead of her. She never spoke, too heartsick to bother, so Valorius finished speaking with Maniac and Callidora before ending the conversation and again wrapping her in his arms as he guided her through the underground tunnels to their home.

Still they didn’t speak. There would be time for words later. For now he knew she hurt, both physically and mentally, and the anger…the anger was the worst. Impotent rage and fury burned within her. The astral plane…the one place she could only go mentally. Her mind could wander all over it sure, but that wouldn’t do a damn bit of fucking good against this thing and they both knew it. They both knew if she went up against this thing as it was…it would destroy her.

How long had she been in the Nexus Chamber? Days? Weeks?...Years? It was possible. Time was easy to lose track of in the seemingly timeless room that could be anything the occupant wished. Valorius had brought her here...afterward. After she had done something she had thought never to do. It wouldn't have been an option had the lives of her pack been threatened. The entity that hunted her was using the pack bonds to track and kill all those tied to her. There was really only one thing that could stop that from happening.

She couldn't be a wolf anymore.

The very notion of shedding the wolf brought physical pain but she could see no other way. She couldn't fight this adversary in her current state and those bound to her through the pack would always be vulnerable. And so it was that Valorius accompanied her to see her parents, unsure of what could, or needed, to be done, just knowing they were the only ones who could do it. And, of course, they had a solution. Or rather...her mother did. It was usually her father, Astynax, who saw to her needs...she never really got along with her mother very well. But this time..it was Duvessa who knew what had to be done.

Rising from the bed she laid in she moved to the window to stare out at the magically created landscape before her, seeing none of it, her minds eye again turned back to that day when she gave it away. It haunted her, that moment. The moment when Duvessa had stood before her, one of the shimmering green soul orbs the Eternal couple used to house soul energy. Some were for feeding from, others were to protect the souls or essences of those who were important to the couple. She knew without needing to be told what the green orb nestled in Duvessa's palm was, she could sense it. It was her soul energy, after all.

”You kept it...”

”Of course I did. It was a part of you whether you wished it or not.”

Meeting her mothers gaze her memory had turned back to the age of 13 when she'd been attacked by the gods of the Djinn, the very gods that had fallen beneath her Mother's hand in retaliation for their attack on her. The Djinn Gods had decided mixed breed children would not be tolerated and had attacked. She'd fought but had been injured, anyway. Not physically...not really. But rather they'd shredded part of her soul, torn it away as if it were tissue paper. Any and all essence of her Djinn heritage had been gone by the time they were done with her. She'd survived, though, with a scorching hatred of the Djinn as a souvenir. Duvessa had recovered that part of her soul when she'd destroyed the other Djinn gods but she'd refused to accept it.

And now...now Duvessa held the orb that housed that part of her soul in front of her, offering it as the solutions to her problem. She would have to accept that part of herself back in order to be strong enough to travel the aether physically as well as mentally, giving up that part of her that tied her to the physical realm. She would have to sacrifice her wolf. Yes, she had much power from Astynax, that part of her that was all Eternal was more than capable of handling it, but it was housed in a physical shell created by, and for, the wolf. She had power...but not enough.

She couldn't remember how long she'd stood there, her inner voice debating, arguing over it all, should she do it or should she try to fight as she was? But..she'd done that...and people were dying. She remembered looking to her husband, seeking strength and reassurance in Valorius' eyes. She'd found it, as she'd known she would. No matter what happened, he'd be there. Looking back to her mother her gaze locked with the Empress' diamond clear gaze, her own eyes identical, and nodded. Without another word her hand rose and covered the glowing green soul orb where it still rested nestled in Duvessa's palm. And she screamed...and screamed...and screamed. Soul wrenching screams that reverberated throughout the Palace as the green soul energy covered her hand and began to travel up her arm. She felt rather than saw Valorius move towards her but a sharp word from their Father not to interfere had kept him where he was.

Turning her back to the landscape before her she leaned back against the window sill, eyes closing against the memory of pain that was so sharp it was painful just thinking about it. She didn't know how long she'd screamed as the green soul energy had continued to travel up her arm and over her entire body until she had been engulfed in it. She could feel the long forgotten sensation of soul energy being shredded from her being only this time it was worse, this time it was that part of herself she held most dear.

With the last shred of that part of her gone a sort of numbness had come over her and she stared at the floor having collapsed to her hands and knees though she couldn't remember doing so. Then came the second part of it all, the sudden rush of....power. That was the only word she could use to describe it. It was as if someone were cross stitching power into her genes and it burned through her, nearly as painful as the first half of it though this time she managed to keep her screams behind clenched teeth.

She was nearing unconsciousness when it was through and she vaguely remembered feeling her body being lifted, Valorius arms carrying her out of their parents chambers. He'd taken her straight to the Nexus Chamber at their parents instruction. Apparently she would need an adjustment period, her physical make up was different now, what she could do was different now, and that wasn't even touching upon the mental adjustment she would have to make.

In fact, the physical adjustment had been easier. She'd slowly become used to her new being, to what she'd lost physically versus what she'd gained. It was the mental aspect that had kept her locked in the Nexus Chamber. She'd identified with her wolf self for so long that she wasn't sure who she was without it. She wasn't going to figure it out here, though. In the world of the Nexus Chamber everything was as she wished it and no one could take their measure without interacting with the world. Or so she told herself. She may be part Djinn again but she had no intention of remaining stuffed in this bottle.

Hearing the door to the bedchamber open her eyes parted to see Valorius entering, having returned from seeing to business outside the Chamber. He had overseen the deconstruction of the Alerian Embassy, the mark of Eternelle Lune now gone from that land entirely at the request of the King. They still had their own holding there, of course, but it was on Alerian soil just like the other citizens of Aleris.

Meeting her husband's eyes she waited until he approached her before speaking. When he finally stood in front of her she stepped into him, arms going around his waist as she tilted her head back slightly to meet his gaze.

”I need to get the fuck out of here, Val. Let's go somewhere...anywhere. Anywhere but the Empire. I...I don't really want to be there right now.”

She wouldn't be leaving anything behind, really. Her pack was gone, those surviving had gone into hiding so that even she didn't know where they were. She wasn't their Alpha anymore anyway. They'd been told to seek the Pilgrim if they needed protection. Pit Falls was under new management. She was still co-owner with Akuma, naturally, she wasn't a fool, but general management had been turned over to Tevy Prism knowing she would protect Akuma's investment better than anyone else.

There was no need for her to go back to the Empire any time soon and that was exactly how she wanted it.

Everyone Knew The Cliché, When You See The End Coming Your Entire Life Was Supposed To Flash Before Your Eyes. But When He Saw The End Before Him It Wasn't His Life That Flooded His Senses – It Was Her. Still Images Of Her Smile In His Mind, The Smell Of Her Skin In The Air, The Warmth That Radiated From Her No Matter How Cold She Seemed To The Rest Of The World. And He Wanted To Say That He Would Come Back To Experience It All Again But It Just Didn't Seem Possible. The World Was Trembling Around Him As He Stared Into The Eyes Of His Father, Feeling The Irresistible Pull At The Very Core Of Him. He Was Resisting, Fighting With Every Bit Of Will Inside Him, But It Was Only A Matter Of Time. Sooner Or Later He Would Lose His Focus, And In A Fraction Of A Second It Would All Be Gone. How Did It Come To This?

When He Last Saw Ameerah It Had Been In The Nexus Chamber. After Her Painful Ordeal He Had Taken Her There To Rest, To Adjust To The Change Within Her. But Before They Ever Reached It He And His Father Had Exchanged A Glance, Something Most Wouldn't Notice. The Glance Spoke Volumes Though. Ameerah's Trial Had Ended And Now Was Her Time To Collect Herself And Emerge A Better, Stronger Being. His Own However Still Awaited Him, And Though He Didn't Want To Admit It He Had Been Avoiding The Encounter. Not Because Of Fear But He Had To See To Her First. And Once She Had Survived The Removal Of Her Lycan Lifeline He Knew That It Was His Time. Ameerah And He Had The Most Critical Event In Their Lives Slowly Approaching And If They Were Not Strong Enough To Overcome It Than There Was No Hope For The Pack.

She Was Still In A Semi-Conscious State, Quasi-Aware And Incredibly Weak. With Her Eyes Open Only A Hair He Kissed Her Softly And Told Her He Would Be Back. Her Fingers Slipped Tiredly From His As He Did His Best To Give A Convincing Lie. Normally She Would Have Seen Through It With Ease But She Was So Tired That He Doubted She Would Even Remember Him Leaving. By The Time He'd Reached The Door Of The Nexus She Was Already Asleep. Lingering There For A Moment He Glanced Back To Her. He Wanted To Say So Much. He Wanted To Apologize For Her Ship, He Wanted To Tell Her They Never Should Have Parted From Each Other, He Wanted Her To Know That She Was All He Ever Wanted. And Yet All He Could Manage Was A Brief Smile As He Gave One Last Look Around The Inside Of The Nexus. The Place He Had Been Raised, Trained, Taught, And Now It Was Perhaps The Last Place He Would See. Looking To Her One Last Time His Posture Straightened And His Chin Lifted.

”Keep working on your defense...if you just keep attacking you'll become predictable. I...I love you.”

As He Headed From The Nexus He Could Swear He Heard Her Say Something, He Wanted To Think She Said She Loved Him Too But Maybe She'd Just Sighed – But If You Asked Him, He'd Tell You She Said It Back. The Door Opened Like Any Other Door In The World, But When It Closed Behind Him The Door Disappeared Leaving What Looked Like Just Another Wall. The Instant He Was Away From Her He Forced His Thoughts To The Task At Hand, Putting An End To The Presumption Once And For All. If His Father Had Issues With Him And What He Was Becoming Than He Wouldn't Avoid The Meeting Any Longer. One Way Or Another The Situation Would Be Put To Rest.

There Was No Hesitation In His Approach, He Headed Directly For His Parents Chamber At The Top Of The Largest Tower In The Palace. His Mind Had Been Flooded With Thoughts And Assumptions For Days But Oddly Enough For The First Time In Longer Than He Could Remember His Mind Was Completely Clear. Which Was Probably Why He Didn't Hesitate When He Finally Reached The Large Wooden Doors At The Top Of The Steps. A Single Knock Was Given And The Door Opened Slowly. Inside He Saw His Mother Looking At What Appeared As A Globe. Metallic In Color But With An Almost Liquid Like Sheen. It Seemed Like A Microcosm And She Stood Before It, Occasionally Tracing A Finger Over An Area. As She Did So A Mountain Upon Another Continent Was “Carved” Into Something Smaller. Portions Of Land Were Moved And Oceans Shifted Yet The World Experienced No Ill Effects. If Anyone Knew How Best To Form Their World It Would Be The Woman Who Created It. And As He Stepped Into Their Room She Looked To Him And Smiled. Her Eyes Revealed She Knew Why He Had Come Which Was Perhaps Why She Did Not Speak, She Merely Gestured Her Head In The Direction Of His Father. Nodding To Her He Moved Further Into Their Chamber, And When He Passed Her He Felt Her Hand Reach Out And Brush The Length Of His Left Arm. An Arch Of Emerald Current Joined Them And In That Touch He Felt Comfort – He Felt Peaceful. But He Couldn't Rely As Heavily On It As He Wanted, There Was Something That Must Be Done First. So, He Continued On.

Leaving The Chamber He Stepped Through The Large Glass Doors That Led To The Balcony Which Overlooked The Vast Expanse Of Their Home. It Was There He Saw His Father, Standing With His Back To Him, His Head Inclined As It Often Was. It Was A Stance He Had Seen Many Times Before, The Poise Of Transcending Sight. It Was Something He Himself Had Been Trying To Become More Skilled At, The Ability To See Beyond A Single World, Beyond A Single Plane Of Existence. To Weave Your Awareness Through The Boundless Reaches Of Eternity – It Was Quite A Feat. He Hadn't Come To Learn Though, He Had Come For Closure. And As If His Father Had Been Following His Thoughts All Along He Spoke Without Turning.

”One of you must be removed. Your mother and I will not allow your combined inadequacies to bring ruin to this world. Neither of you are capable of preventing what is to come, and your continued existence will only make our task of safeguarding this realm more difficult.”

His Father Was Never Dramatic, Never One To Use Emphasis Or Hyperbole. It Was Always Direct, No Sparing Of A Persons Feelings Or Consideration Of Their Reaction. And Yet It Never Seemed Cold Or Callous, Merely Honest And Uncompromising – Truth In Its Purest Form. But That Didn't Make The Words Any Easier To Take. His Eyes Widened And He Took A Step Forward, His Lips Parting To Speak But The Words That Might Have Left Were Halted By His Father Turning Towards Him, One Yellow Pit And One Orange Pit Staring Back At Him. There Were No Eyes In Those Sockets, Just A Brilliant Glow And A Constant Exhaust Of The Energy That Came From The Pits Like Vapor. His Father Spoke Again.

”The decision has been made, Valorius. One of you shall be removed. Your essence will be stripped and I will reclaim it. It will be painless. The choice of whom will be undone and who will remain shall be yours to make. Though, we are well aware of the answer either of you would give. Ameerah would ask that we take her, and you shall ask that we take you. The reason we chose to speak to you instead of Ameerah is a simple one. She is passionate, headstrong, and resistant to rationality if it defies her heart. She would demand we claim her even if it was not the most logical choice. You however..though impetuous, have been trained extensively to place what is best for others before your own emotions. It shall be you who decides. If you do not..than I shall.”

It Wasn't The Lack Of Feeling In His Fathers Voice That Shocked Him, That Placid Tone Was Always There No Matter The Situation. It Was The Thought That Asking Him To Decide Who Should Die Would Come So Easily To Him. The Idea That He Could Answer Such A Question With Anything Resembling Reason Was What Dumbstruck Him Most. For Several Moments He Stood There Silent, His Hands Trembling Slightly In As Much Anger As It Was Fear. Anger At His Parents For Regarding Ameerah And Himself Like Disposable Assets. And Fear For The Choice His Father Would Make If He Could Not Make It Himself. He Didn't Want To Die, But Much More So He Didn't Want Ameerah To Suffer. Why Had The Made Her Endure All That Pain And Anguish If They Were Planning To Kill One Of Them? It Made No Sense – But Rarely Did Anything His Parents Do Make Sense At The Time It Was Done. As He Stood There Wide Eyed, Hands Shaking, Astynax Began To Turn Away Once More.

”I will give you until the end of the day to decide. At midnight tonight a decision must be m..”

”It will be me.”

Valorius Spoke Abruptly, Cutting His Fathers Sentence Short. And When He Spoke Astynax Ceased In Turning Away And Once Again Faced His Son.

”You. Alright. Now..what is your explanation for that decision?”

He Had Made The Choice, Spoken What His Head Told Him Was The Best Answer. Yes His Heart Said For Him To Do Whatever It Took To Keep Ameerah Safe, But His Head Also Knew She Was The Most Valuable Of The Two Of Them. So He Responded In A Tone That Was Almost Mechanical, Showing That He Spoke From A Rational State Of Mind And Not A Fearful Or Protective One.

”Ameerah has been with our family much longer than I have. She knows more about the deSade than anyone other than mother and yourself. She has proven she is capable of guiding the family, proven she is more than capable of protecting it. She commands the respect and loyalty of the entire world...it would take years for me make such an impression, and that isn't time that we have. Whatever is coming won't take years to get here..so when it does it should face someone who's shown they can endure.”

Astynax Nodded Softly. And Again In That Same Soft, Objective Voice He Responded In Turn.

”Your points are valid, I cannot deny this. But you forget her nature. What do you think will become of her when she learns that you have been unmade? Do you think her first reaction will be one of understanding? Do you actually believe she will regard the decision as one that was in the realms best interest? Come now Valorius, she will be driven by pain and hate. And unlike you she lacks the ability to fully control the power within her. Should she lose touch with all positive emotion inside her...Nax's hate will come. It will overwhelm her. She will become an adversary to this world as well as the family. No. As true as your words are...it is best that she be the one who is reclaimed, and it will be you who continues on.”

Again Valorius' Eyes Widened, Only This Time It Was Not In Shock. It Was Rage. He Took A Step Forward, His Fear Seeping Away And Being Replaced By Anger The Likes Of Which He Had Never Felt Before.

”You can't DO THIS! Just because we've got your power inside us does NOT give you the right to just sweep us away! You're supposed to be able to SEE the outcome of things. Why the FUCK did you have us if you were going to kill us? WHERE IS THE SENSE?!”

As Always Astynax Didn't Show Any Emotional Reaction At All, He Only Spoke In Response With That Same Quiet Resolve That Was Now Serving To Make His Sons Anger Grow.

”I can do this, Valorius. It is because my power is inside you that I have the right to eliminate you should I deem it necessary. And yes, I do see the outcome of things, but the outcomes I see are limitless. You forget free will. I may see a million different ends...but there are always a million more that could potentially occur. I am powerful, but no being can guarantee the path another will take. We can only offer educated theories. I had you for the same reason I created the children of the past. I hoped that they might control the energy inside them and find balance in the duality. One of you can be taught how to utilize the potential in you..but not both. There is simply not enough time to teach the two of you. I am sorry.”

Of Everything His Father Said It Was The Apology That Caused The Most Hate To Rise Up In Him. The Words Were Hollow And Meaningless. Did His Father Even Understand What It Was To Be -Sorry-? Did He Understand Guilt, Or Remorse? Or Was Everything That Happened Just Turning Cogs In A Grand Machination? Taking Another Step Forward Valorius Shook His Head.

”No. I won't let you do this. The others might have just stood there and let you rip the life right out of them...but..that ends today. I might not be able to kill you..but I will keep you from killing her.”

Astynax Sighed And Glanced To His Left As From Behind Him A Form Stepped Like It Had Been Standing There All Along. It Was Identical To Him In Every Way Other Than The Eyes. Where As Asty's Were A Brilliant Yellow, These Eyes Were An Intense Orange. And Where As Asty's Face Was Eternally Placid – The Expression Of Nax Was Always Contemptuous, Almost As If Agonizing Physical Or Emotional Pain. Nax Circled Asty And Stood Between Him And Valorius.

”You...you useless waste. Do not speak as though some antiquated sense of heroism will help you to prevent what has been decided. You are right..you cannot kill me. And you will not keep me from unmaking her. I brought her into being, my essence burns within her. I have seen that essence help her to reach a standard you would not achieve if you lived to be timeless. I do not choose to undo her because I desire to..I choose it because if she is to be undone anyway, it shall be by me and not her own instability. If you attempt to stop me I will pull the ethereal out of you and make it experience her death in eternal repetition. Never speak to me again, Valorius. I will not warn you again.”

In That Instant A Decision Was Made By The Young Prince. Perhaps His Life Should Have Flashed Before His Eyes, But It Didn't. Just Her. Sometimes Though You Didn't Need An Entire Life Worth Of Experiences To Drive You, You Just Needed A Single Image. One Lone Memory That Made Your Choice Final. He Stepped Forward, His Chin Raising As His Eyes Met Nax's.

”You do what you have to...and so will I. You won't take her.”

Asty Had Been Standing Silent Just To The Back Left Of Nax, And It Was At That Moment He Stepped Forward To Rejoin With Him Just As Duvessa Came To Stand In The Balcony Door Way. Astynax Looked At His Son And Nodded.

”So be it. Than both of you must be removed. I shall try again. Perhaps next time will yield the necessary result.”

Astynax Raised His Hand Causually, And Though There Was No Visual Change To The Space Before Or Around It Valorius Felt A Violent Tug At The Very Center Of His Being. The Essence Within Astynax Called To The Energy Inside Him, Began To Pull At It And Draw It Back To The Source From Which It Came. The Prince Resisted. The Pull Came Stronger, And His Resistance Grew. The Stone Under The Princes Feet Began To Concave As The Powerful Struggle Inside Him Increased. The Flesh At The Corner Of His Eyes Began To Split And Emerald Light Slowly Emerged, Glowing Beneath The Surface Like The Skin Itself Were Just A Shell. Behind Him Duvessa Spoke.

”Valorius..stop this. You will not accomplish what you're trying to do. There is no sense in losing both of you. We love you both..but..this must be done.”

He Heard Her, But Her Words Only Fueled His Need To Resist. His Mother Had Sided With Astynax. She Would Let Him Destroy Her Children. He Had Always Felt Closest To His Mother, And At That Moment While His Heart Ached From What She Said His Resolve Was Steeled. His Heels Dug In And He Seethed, The Emerald Glow Of His Pupils Began To Expand Across His Eyes, Consuming More And More Of Them As The Cracks In His Skin Spread Further Across His Face. There Wasn't Pain. It Was More A Sensation Of Approaching Emptiness. Emotions Began To Drain, Each One Becoming Less And Less Noticeable While Physical Sensation Decreased Greatly. It Was Slipping Away – He Was Losing.

It Was Then That His Left Arm Began To Crackle And Hum With Erratic Flashes Of Energy. The Raw Ethereal Energy Inside Him Was Responding To The Draw Of A Greater Force. Energy Was Forever Drawn To Energy And The Essence Inside Him Was Beginning To Be Pulled More Towards Its Origin, Towards Astynax. And It Was Then That Final Decision Was Made. He Was Going To Be Undone No Matter What He Chose. He Couldn't Resist The Force Pulling At Him, But He Still Had Some Semblance Of Control Over His Own Energies. If The Origin Force In Astynax Could Draw His Essence In...

There Was No Thought Involved, The Response Was Immediate. His Left Hand Suddenly Shot Forward And Plunged Into His Fathers Chest. It Did Not Pierce The Flesh But Phased Through It. And The Instant It Made Contact With The Eternal, Ethereal Core Of His Father It Immediately Began To Draw From It. Astynax Was More Powerful That Was Undeniable, But His Essence Was Housed In An Unnatural Shell. It Was Buffered And Filtered By The Flesh That Surrounded It. Valorius' Energy Was A Part Of Him, Merged With His Flesh. There Was No Buffer Between It And The World. Duvessa Stepped Forward Until She Stood At The Side Of Them Both.

”Valorius! Stop this! This is insanity!”

He Said Nothing To His Mother, His Eyes Locked To His Fathers. Astynax's Flesh Began To Crack, Slower Than His Sons, Starting At His Brow And Working Its Way Down His Features Like Splintering Glass. As Energy Was Drawn In To The Prince As He Took It From His Father, It Came In Waves. Each Wave Strengthened The Force Of The Last Causing First The Balcony Alone To Rattle. Then Another Wave Blew Out The Glass Doors At The Far End Of It. Another Laid The Bed Chamber To Waste As The Very Construct Of The Palace Began To Quiver. The Waves Kept Coming, And They Reached Further And Further With Every Pass. The Growing Concussive Force Was Just The Beginning.

”Valorius. This is not the way. If you do not let go...everything will be undone. I can contain the energies within you...but your flesh cannot harbor mine. The release of force will collapse this realm in on itself...it may pass the dimensional barriers.”

The Prince's Entire Body Trembled As More And More Cracks Formed. Flesh Began To Rise From Him, Seeming To Turn To Dust In Mid Air As It Vanished Into Nothing. But While Trembling He Managed A Nod. ”I...know. And...it...will...destroy us all.” Astynax Spoke Again, No Longer Attempting To Pull His Sons Essence Away He Did Not Try To Dislodge His The Limb, The Energy Of His Son Had Fused With His Own, To Pull Out One Would Be To Pull Out Both.

”It is not worth this, Valorius. A balance must be maintained, that is the nature of existence. This shall undo that balance..countless worlds, perhaps even entire realities will be undone. Is all that worth one being? One single entity? Is the value of any being so great? What is one person worth?”

The Prince Stepped Forward As The Flesh On The Right Side Of His Face Dusted Away. His Emotions Were All But Gone, But – The Strength Found In A Single Memory Reminded Him Of His Objective Where Feeling Failed. And As He Saw Her So Vividly In His Mind He Stopped Resisting The Furious Energy Growing Inside Him As He Continued To Draw In The Essence Of His Father. Looking To Astynax While He Still Had Eyes To Look At Him With He Shouted With All The Emotion He Had Left In Him.

”EVERYTHING!”

And With That Shout, That Final Submission To The Forces Within, Suddenly All His Senses Ceased Functioning. The Only Way To Describe It Was to Be Conscious But Unaware. But As Quickly As The Void Had Come Upon Him, It Was Gone. He Found Himself Standing Before The Wall That Hid The Door Of The Nexus Chamber. His Hands Came Up And He Touched His Face – The Flesh Was There. What's More He Could Feel Again, Both Physically And Emotionally. Confusion Laced With Apprehension Filled Him As He Stood Silent And Again – Dumbstruck. It Was Then That Felt A Touch To Both His Shoulders. Glancing From Left To Right He Saw His Mother On One Side, His Father On The Other. The Confusion Was Evident On His Face, And Rather Than Have Him Ask 100 Questions They Spoke First Instead.

”The future of this world..of this family..it depends upon the two of you. Just as I exist as two halves to a singular whole..so too are Ameerah and yourself. It is not enough that one half is willing to sacrifice itself for the other. It must be willing to sacrifice any and all things to protect the sum of the whole. As I said..balance must be maintained.”

And Then His Mother Spoke Immediately After.

”We are sorry that it had to come to this Valorius, but..you had to be shown..when all else fails you, whether it be your allies, your world, and yes even your parents..these things are insignificant because you have each other. Nothing else means anything.”

Valorius Stammered, Again He Went To Speak. His Parents Were Kind And Decided That Talking Would Not Make Understanding What Had Happened Any Easier. So As Duvessa Stepped Back And Vanished Into Nothing, She Left A Soft -I love you- Before Parting. Astynax Was Soon Drawing Back Too.

”You wanted the two of you to be safe, to be free to live your lives and make your own choices. Today you have earned that. You are both free. Your mother and I will no longer interfere with your lives. From this moment on your choices are your own...as will be the consequences. Trust your instincts, trust in each other...and find your balance”

He Turned To Speak To His Father But Astynax Was Already Gone. The Confusion Was Still There And Honestly He Wasn't Certain What He Should Feel. And In That Moment Where Clarity Came For Many, At The Threshold Of The Beginning Of A New Life And A New Journey, He Summed Up The Grand Life Lesson In His First Words As A “Free” Being.

”...You could have just told me...assholes.”
