I think I've got something here.
First its optimal if Players RP taking any Damage they receive. 'Course, no ones going to get severed limbs, or anything that extreme, unless the Player wants that kind of damage (adding its effect on their own).
Damage would be based on Player and Enemy Behavior. Attacking certain enemy types with certain weapons could be effective, or non-effective.
A Slime for example wouldn't be relatively hurt much by a sword, or bladed weapon, Magic would be the best route. a Rock Golem, again wouldnt really be harmed much by a sword or dagger, but a blunt weapon like a Warhammer would do nicely.
Some enemies might be volatile to certain kinds of magic, making them even more deadly.
So basicly, you will deal damage according to situation, and what you choose to do in that situation. And should play out any damage you think might of been caused due to an enemy's attack.
Healing. I see no reason why players cannot heal between battles, if a character has the gift of healing magic, all the power to them to heal their injured party members, if no one has healing magic, the players can use splints, make shift bandages, and herbs/potion to heal themselves.
Players will act in Turns, while Monsters will target Players based on their behavior.
While this has last tidbit has little to do with the combat system, I would appreciate it that anyone would join a quest, does not take longer than 15minutes to post their rp. Making others wait 30mins to an hour to post you arriving is ludacris. I'll request you also shorten your paragraphs to make the quest flow a bit faster. The less it takes you to interact with the surroundings, the more we get done.
I'd say a 5line para should be sufficient.
One other rule I have, and this is a personal one. If you are going to be questing, dont be browsing the internet. I've had it with ppl who are questing, everyone is waiting for them to post, and they arent even paying attn to the screen, cause they're on a website reading or something.
