As she paused in her journey, she reflected. It was about six or eight months ago that she had left The Outlands, leaving the Redmonts - Brood and Dynasty - to their own devices. Maxim had gone missing and she had been left in charge. Ever since she had reawakened, she had wanted to claim her spot on the Redmont throne. That had been her chance while Maxim was away to act as Redmont Queen. For a while, it worked, though there were quite the opposing voices from her family and many doubted her due to her still having Lumine's magic collar on. After all, what good was a witch when her powers were restrained?
Eventually, she ended up leaving them on their own, heading away from the make-shift Redmont Headquarters in The Outlands and going off with Odin Kirk. Though she was gone, she had heard news. Like that those she was in charge of - those she had left behind - had started killing each other off one by one trying to gain control of power if any was to be had at all. In the end, the Redmont numbers had dwindled and honestly, Ainsley wasn't sure that she cared. Maybe it was better this way.
During her time away with Odin Kirk, she had learned he was an artificer and that he didn't really know much magic at all. Instead, he created things to help him enhance his abilities and make it appear like he could use magic as fluidly as any other mage. At first, she was a little annoyed that he had kept this secret from her, but him being an artificer actually proved useful. Odin was the one who was finally able to remove Lumine's collar from around her neck.
Did she owe him though? She didn't think so, especially when she took off in the middle of the night without telling Odin or giving him a second glance. She caught wind that her beloved ex-husband, Elijah Bluefield, was apparently alive (it turned out he was undead actually) again. Ainsley thought she had no choice to hunt the bastard down and put him back in the grave. She tracked him all the way to Tezzra's Gorge where she was able to give him a pretty good beating. Unfortunately, Elijah, ever cunning, caught her off guard and tossed her to the side, hauling out of the gorge like there was no tomorrow.
Ainsley had lost him again, but this did not stop her from continuing on after the undead werewolf. She had been back and forth across the continents of Aleris with no luck. In her journeys, she had stopped at Grand City, seeing the devastation that had happened as a result of the God of Summer being kidnapped. Tidal waves, people dying and killing each other, famine. Arthuran melted down completely and the Eternal Lake cracked open unleashing vicious beasties. Throughout all of this, she had finally seen Maxim again. Their meeting though, was very brief and almost awkward. There was something about the way he carried himself that was distinctly different and... subdued. She never pried though and thought that if Maxim wanted to talk to her about what had happened to him, he knew he could have.
Then, it was time to leave Grand City. Ainsley wasn't hiding, but she did leave the ruined city shortly before the undead war. The Redmont Witch had a strong feeling that something bad was right around the corner, but she wasn't in Grand City recently to see it first hand for herself.
It was back to Arthuran for her. While she was there, Ainsley caught someone wearing the unmistakable Redmont crest. She followed them, sneaking behind always out of earshot. What she had found was that the Redmonts were rebuilding a headquarters based out of a rather dilapidated looking mansion that rested against one side of the mountains. She scouted their routes to and from the mansion, learning that the Redmonts were bringing supplies in from Northcross. But why and... who?
She found herself wondering if she should go rejoin them, furthermore if she would have been welcomed. Part of her didn't want to let go of her own personal, little freedoms she had granted herself over the last few months. For now though, she was content to just watch as the snow fluttered down to the earth.
