"In the meantime," Elijah began, finishing the sentence for the man next to him, "get rid of Shimmer Town, then the rest of Elved and then... Aleris."

"And the children?"

Elijah offered a shrug. "Appetizers?"

Madrin had never been on a oceangoing vessel before to him it was a new experience. He never knew he could feel so sick from a simple sea voyage. Lucky for him it was only going to take a week to reach Chaliceton. Hinewai harbor was very crowded despite the unseasonal heat, the market place still kept running smoothly. Madrin headed to the port to look for any vessels on the way to Arthuran. The port had fewer vessels than he expected it was a little sad. He only saw four ships docked of those two were headed for Elved. The largest vessel was headed for Heruin with a hold full of staples as relief supplies. The smallest ship of the four was the Crystal Tear which made regular trade voyages to Arthuran every month. The captain was more fearful than normal because pirate activity had increased dramatically due to the abnormal weather. He decided to hire some skilled guards for his next trip for that reason. Madrin thought luck must have smiled on him because, he could get a trip to Arthuran and do some good at the same time. When he applied for the position he met Sedric who had gotten the job earlier it seems no one else had shown interest. Sedric was wearing full plate minus a helmet, a tower shield and a long sword all well made. All Madrin could think was Sir Shine better hope that the ship doesn't sink. They sparred with each other in order to determine their comparable skills while the ship finished loading.

The sea was so beautiful Madrin could not imagine he would spend half the voyage puking over the side. He wished the blasted ship would stop tilting even for a second. The ship was four days into its journey when the lookout spotted an unfamiliar sail on the horizon. Madrin knew that was a sure sign of a pirate ship but, prudence required he wait for verification. He really wished they would wait until he had his sea legs. When the lookout finally got a good view of ship Madrin's suspicion was confirmed. Sedric and him prepared for a boarding party while the crewman that were taking a brake grabbed longbows. The Crystal Tear only had one ballistae for ship battles. They rarely had to use it but, the crew was well trained in its use. The enemy vessel was clearly built for speed it was a raid ship for sure. The Crystal Tear had no chance in a chase but, fire arrows were dropping its speed dramatically. The crewman were impressive shots Madrin was glad they were his allies. When the pirate ship attempted to ram them some skilled piloting saved them from the worst of it. However, the pirates managed to get grapples across. Madrin couldn't help thinking the ship stopped rocking at least.

" Hey you bastards thanks for the assist I hope you have made peace with the gods because you'll meet Elysia soon!" He stated it with a gleam in his eyes and a terrifying grin.

When his blood started boiling Madrin leaped the distance separating the two ships and began cutting a bloody swath thru the closest potential borders. Sedric followed shortly after and the pirates quickly learned to fear both of them. In the end the captain of the Tear gained a salvageable ship after a good scrubbing, the blood was excessive. Madrin and Sedric decided they would help with the cleaning since it was all their fault. Madrin had dozens of shallow cuts and a deep wound that came very close to puncturing his left lung. He would need to see a blacksmith when he got to Chaliceton. Two good things came of the pirates for him. He was no longer seasick and he and Sedric got letters of recommendation from the captain for the guard in Chaliceton.
