Post subject: Rejoice Aleris! The Princess hath returned...
I'll only be gone for a few days, he'd said. I'll be back before you know it, he'd promised. He lied, the bastard. Several weeks ago Maniac had sat her down and told her he would be leaving Mount Cithaeron, that he had business to attend to but that he would only be gone three, maybe four days at the most. Naturally she'd wanted to go with him but he'd refused, the bastard. As was typical for her her hurt feelings had quickly morphed into anger and she'd smartly told him to go, that she didn't give a damn and wouldn't even notice he was gone. He knew she was lying, his laughter flowing over her and igniting her volatile temper even further as he'd grabbed her and kissed her good bye, whether she'd wanted him to or not. Of course she did but she had to act like she didn't. Appearances you see.
In his absence she'd avoided everyone, keeping to her room lest the dual hungers she constantly struggled with made her do something she would regret later. As a result she was drinking her way through Callidora's private store of wine, the wine made with the blood of the Goddess herself, a concentrated shot of blood and lust all in one. Four days came and went and still Maniac did not return. With every day that he was absent she grew more anxious, more irritable, and more angry. He had told her...should she need to feed the hunger, be it blood or lust, and he was not available she could do what needed to be done and a few times she very nearly went and found one of the temple attendants to do that very thing but she found she couldn't. She didn't want them. She wanted him. Bastard.
It wasn't just anger at his absence that fueled her, though, there was genuine concern as well. Not a single detail had been provided as to what he was doing or who he was seeing. Something must have happened to keep him away for so very long. He wasn't dead, somehow she knew he was still alive. Enough blood had been shared between them that somehow she knew she would sense it if he had been destroyed, but if he wasn't dead then what was it? Was he a prisoner somewhere? Lost? Hurt? Had he hit his head and lost his memory? Anything would be preferable to the idea that he wasn't coming back, that he wasn't coming for her.
After a few weeks passed she began to consider ways to find him, of tracking him down, just to make sure he was alright of course. Besides, the temple was becoming stifling in his absence. It was beautiful, luxurious, a den for hedonism..and she appreciated that...but it was also booooring! At least Maniac had made it interesting. Her thoughts turned to the other places she'd been; Eternelle Lune in general held no appeal without Maniac there, Earth was an option though it was harder to hide what she was on Earth. Aleris...yes. She had land there, land that Static had never known about, a manor built as a haven for just such an occasion. A husband and wife team lived on the grounds to ensure it remained in good repair and was ready for her arrival at any time. And then an idea struck her...the Eye. The Oculus. Was it still there? Or had Static had it destroyed when he'd returned to Hell? Was his estate even still there? She'd have to be in Aleris to find out...but if the Oculus was still there..she could sneak in and use it to find Maniac.
Toying with the idea she wondered if Callidora would let her leave...and then Callidora did the unthinkable. She moved Antonio into the Temple as her personal boy toy in Maniac's absence. Her own former lover was now occupying Callidora's bed. Weird much? Not only was it weird and a little bit creepy but it was offensive too. No she didn't like sharing Maniac with Callidora but that didn't mean she liked what she viewed as a slight against Maniac. Contradictory, sure, but one gets used to it around the hybrid princess.
Perhaps it was her fault; she'd asked Callidora to help Antonio to save Rain who was suffering from soul death thanks to an attack by Sarine but she had never expected this to be the result. Approaching Callidora she'd informed her she would be leaving Mount Cithaeron. She didn't ask, she told, and to her mild surprise Callidora agreed without argument, the secretive little smile Najia had become so used to seeing on the Goddess' lips her only other reaction.
And so it was that she ended up back in Aleris, ensconced in the manor she'd built on the edges of the Soul's Ferry Cemetery in Eiler, only a short distance from the Grand City. She wasn't alone, either. After hearing she intended to leave the Temple Seterios had informed her he would be going with her. He and Callidora had not been raised together, the goddess having been isolated from the others in their youth, and though he loved his sister they weren't overly close. No, it had been Cytara, his other sister who had grown up with him, that he had been so very close to and with her death he found the Temple to be a little too depressing. He needed a change of scenery and she was happy to have him along; he was the first friend she'd had since Rain so many years ago and surprisingly enough he was male and they weren't fucking. Doubly surprising considering she was a vampire succubus and he a satyr but, there it was. The supernatural version of Milo and Otis.
Seterios quickly settled in to life in Aleris and within days of their arrival had obtained a job as the Manager of the local brothel, the Siren's Corner. Her own former concubine, Salome, had once managed the establishment and she had no doubt Seterios would be a more than worthy successor. That of course had her own thoughts turning to the Chronicle where she'd once been the gossip columnist. Had they filled her position? If not perhaps she would seek to regain it herself. She'd enjoyed the gossip and seemed to have a knack for it, too.
First things first, though. She would need to travel to Arthuran, the northern land of seemingly perpetual winter where Static had built his own fortress. She needed to know if it was still standing and if so if it was inhabited, how many guarded it, and if the doorway to the eye was still there. With it she could see anyone, anywhere, and would be able to find Maniac.
He'd better hope he was dead! Bastard.

Her breath formed puffs of smoke with each exhalation as she strolled casually down the cobbled road. The de Ingis estate was at the end of this road, provided Stativare had not had it removed, and it was imperative that she look like any other woman strolling down the road. Of course, most people would not be taking a leisurely stroll in Arthuran where it was perpetually icy thanks to the Goddess of Death but that was besides the point. It had been the perfect location for Static's home base in Aleris and she prayed it was still there...and he wasn't. Last she'd heard he was still in Hell but things change quickly in the lives of the immortals and she wasn't stupid enough to underestimate Static or his minions having once been one of them.
Black satin gloved hands rose to pull the deep hood of the ankle length velvet coat forward, further obscuring her features and completely hiding her white blonde hair. That alone would work in her favor, however, as her hair had been black when residing amongst Static's people so if any were left they may not recognize her but again, she wasn't going to bet her life on that. The three inch heels on the black boots she wore echoed on the cobbled street, announcing her approach to any who might be in the area. It didn't matter if they heard her coming, it wasn't about hiding her presence, just about hiding who she was. If any looked her way she wanted them to see just another stunningly beautiful princess strolling down the street, no different from any other...stunningly beautiful princess.
The cold mists parted and ahead she could see the heavy wrought iron gates that guarded the de Ingis estate. Just the sight of them made her blood run cold and her heart turn hard with the lingering hatred she still harbored for her former lover. Now was not the time to indulge in such emotions, though, and with a great bit of will she forced it aside and focused on the task at hand. Reconnaissance was the purpose of this stroll; to determine if the de Ingis manor still stood and if so was it occupied, that was her only goal here tonight.
Her steps slowed as she neared the gates, smoky amethyst eyes turning to peer through the bars to see that the manor did indeed still stand. Hope flared within her, if the manor was still there the doorway to the Oculus might still be there as well. If it was she could use it to find Maniac. Seeing no activity within or around the large manor she faced the iron gates and let both hands rise until her fingers curled around the bars. Taking a chance she closed her eyes and extended her awareness outward, seeking the hum of energy given off by the Oculus or even the doorway that led to it. Nothing. That didn't necessarily mean the Oculus was not there; she knew first hand how heavily warded it was. The only way to know for sure would be to enter the house and see for herself. Not tonight, though. She'd not come prepared for that tonight, though her instincts told her to just barge in and use it and whoever was there be damned. Impulse was usually how she did things but knowing what would befall her should she be discovered by one of Static's servants or, even worse, Static himself she managed to quell the impulse...this time.
Cursing beneath her breath she turned away from the gates and began moving back down the cobbled street, this time at a much faster clip as she made her way back to Eiler and her own manor. She needed to see into the house..she needed to know who guarded it, if anyone, and how powerful they were. Magic..it was her only recourse. Luckily she was not without some magic skill. Her mother, however useless, had been a sorceress in her younger years and she herself had spent a lot of time first with a battle mage then in the household of the Prince of Hell. Given that his other woman (Sarine) had prided herself on her skills of sorcery Najia herself had begun to develop her own abilities, refusing to give anyone the edge over her. That bit of ego would only work in her favor, now.
A short time later she was entering her own manor in Eiler, the velvet coat sliding from her shoulders to be tossed at Mr. Perkins, one half of the married duo who cared for the house hold when she wasn't present, who had appeared out of no where to tend to his Mistress' needs. The house was empty other than Mr. and Mrs. Perkins, Seterios no doubt down at the Corner tending to “business”. Hmph. Business, yes, more like fucking his way through his employees like any good pimp would. But who was she to judge? She'd probably do the same thing in his position. The lure of the Corner was strong and part of her longed to join him and ease some of the gnawing hunger that ate at her but instead she just popped the cork of another bottle of Callidora's wine and retired to her room. She had a lot of planning to do, her desire to find Maniac riding her harder than the hunger at the moment.
What would she do when she found him? If he wasn't hurt, if he was with someone else...well..she would simply have to go to where he was. If he was going to part ways with her she was going to make him do it to her face...right before she ripped his off. Bastard.
