She'd been paniced and desperate when she'd dove through the the odd portal from the protectorate building. Long ago her mother had shown her it and given her a once glance at the one she called my father. She wouldn't introduce us, nor did she let him see me. It was if she was ashamed of me, it was something that always burned.
Something she always explained away as something entirely different. "No, Lika, I am not and have never been ashamed of you. You're beautiful, gentle and loving and I wish to keep you safe and unspoiled from the world that I've played my hands in. I've won and lost several hands in this game. I wish to ensure you have a stacked deck, and I fear if your existance is known to some people it might cause a problem for you not them."
I couldn't argue that logic but I did wonder as there were pictures all over mother's hidden house of her, her lover and me. Pictures of my brother and sisters were all over. I grew up knowing them, the stories that mother would tell me and they are what was part of why I'm now out from under mother's apron. I'd departed in a hurry. A handful of clothing, a swooping hand of whatever I could slap off my mother's dresser into my bag. Her money, her jewelry and cosmetics.
Some of mother's clothing had been thrown into the bag as well along with my warm cloak she'd taught me to sew that I was quite proud of. I altered all the outfits I'd taken from mother's closet and fashioned them to fit my smaller frame but also gave myself plenty of leeway to where I'd be able to let them back out as I grew.
At fifteen I knew I shouldn't be on my own but I'd had no choice at the time, it had seemed the right thing to do. Priest Delmar had touched me and lustfully breathed against my ear and came too close. I responded violently shocking poor Aunt Willow with my outburst. Although I doubt mine is anything compared to mother's when she got home from work and found out.
Still shift of wind that had come from my wings and sent the man slamming to a wall. Aunt Willow rushed to him instead of me, how dare she! Still on the way out I broke mother's weapon case she kept in her room and grabbed a handful of things. Her work weapons no less all had her marks on them. Chinese fighting fans, a few daggers was sure to keep people from bothering me.
So when I'd run out of the house and to the portals I knew of. I was too paniced to seek out the one mother had called my father. I'd dove through and found myself in Aleris.
Mother had come home to hell and fire and created some of her own. She'd have no clue mother was going to be in a world of shit when her temper flared out. But I as safely away but horridly lost. A kind man had told me I was in grand city, that sounded nice enough.
Shown where an inn was, I'd rented a room and came across a odd pair but that was neither here nor there other then violence seemed to follow them, that and quick wit and saucy attitude and a bit of last years fashion sense on the odd pair.
An intresting male that looked like he'd just thrown on clothing and a woman that was quick to mouth and dressed in a hurry without the flare that she seemed to have. More's the pity, they had seemed intriguing as she looked around for a better place to stay and perhaps a job so no one could say she was a lay about.
Besides she wasn't sure if she would get discovered with the weapons and jewelry she'd stolen off mother's dresser when she'd ran away. Still mostly she was alright as the money stretched since she didn't eat that much, she didn't indulge like most did in alcohol. And not once had she gotten into trouble.
Well that was sort of a lie, she'd gotten caught using her magic the one night and the poor enebriated male she'd left a feather so he'd feel better. Never the less since then the bartender had been replaced, the new one was less then respectable and she was feeling trapped with the looks so she'd made it known she wouldn't tolerate advances.
She'd been given notice to vacate despite paying for her room by the end of the week. Perhaps she could find someone that could redirect her, who knew. Fate could be a kind and loving thing at least she'd like to idealistically think so.
The time out of mother's watchful gaze made her wonder though. Why had she never met her siblings? Would they not like the half angel half demon younger sister that she was? Perhaps it would be more sins of the mother. Mother didn't seem to have friends that came to visit other then her lover and her bosses from time to time.
Life was supposed to be an adventure, she wanted to know why she'd yet to experiance it other then the over protecting secret holding mother.
Something however always warned in her head and heart. That she had better hope she was too short to meet the requirements of this ride and game.
