He wasn't sure if his words would have the effect he hoped they would on the shifter, but he felt a bit better just having gotten them out. Now he only hoped that he hadn't angered her enough to kill him in his sleep.

Violence Continues to Erupt in Aleris

On the surface life in Aleris seems quiet, peaceful even. At the very least it appears on the surface as if it is a safe place to live. Once upon a time those assumptions would have been correct due largely in part to the curse suffered by the Alerian citizens for so long. With the removal of the curse life is slowly returning to the land and, as reported before, along with that life comes the natural strife that goes hand in hand with strong emotion. All over Aleris, not only in the Grand Capital, reports of violence occurrences are coming in.

In the Southern Lands of Tempesturo a witness reports seeing anywhere from 2-3 men engaging in what could only be called life or death combat. Wisely the spectator kept his distance but it was apparent that the men in question were intent upon bloodshed. Whether or not these men were newcomers to Aleris or born here is unknown at this time.

These incidents of violence are not just in the remote Southern Lands, either. Reports have come in from right here in Grand City of an explosion that occurred late in the Cornucopia Market. We believe the explosion came from the fortune telling shop, Foresights, but at this time do not have confirmation of this. The culprit is, at the time of this publication, unknown. We also do not know if anyone was injured or killed in the explosion.

Perhaps even more disturbing are the reports from patrons of the Oak Barrel Tavern stating they were drugged while visiting the establishment. As reported in our gossip column last month Vic Sage, the manager of the Tavern, was initially suspected. Such reports were found to have no basis in fact, however, and I am told Mr. Sage is diligently working to reveal who is behind the druggings.

As I previously commented in the last Editorial the rise of violence might be due in part to the newcomers who have availed themselves of the Outer Gates, or it might not. At this time it is too soon to tell but if this disturbing trend continues it may cause the lingering resentment many Alerian citizens feel towards the newcomers to grow which, in turn, would only lead to more violence.

Can the Outer Gate Immigrants and the natural born Alerian citizens learn to co-exist peacefully? Will the Alerian’s learn to accept and control the more tumultuous emotions that are now theirs to enjoy? Those are questions that only time can answer but in the meantime….I’ll be watching.
