Our Voices

Doubly surprising considering she was a vampire succubus and he a satyr but, there it was. The supernatural version of Milo and Otis.

Aldrick awoke to darkness. His eyes were open, but darkness was all around him. Then something fell into his eyes, making them water. His hand instinctively went to wipe his eye clear, but his hands were both stuck to his side. "What the hell?" he was going to say, but as he opened his mouth something gushed in. The Wraith started to panic. He struggled and soon was able to move his arms slightly. It felt like he'd been buried alive.

The sands of The Scorched Lands erupted with such force that the local predators ran. They didn't know what was being given birth to, but they could sense it wasn't something they wanted to be around.

Finally free of his prison Aldrick "The Wraith" Redmont looked around him. He was in the deserts of Aleris, it was day light and the sun was beating down on his bare chest with abandon. The Redmont spit out the sand that had forced it's way into his mouth and cursed. How had he gotten under there? The last thing he remembered was fighting against the armies of Alerion. Then...Nothing.

This wasn't the first time he ended up somewhere he didn't remember being. The blackouts had started back in Mystra, but they hadn't decreased since being home. In fact, they had gotten worse. He hated not being in control of himself and not knowing what was going on. Aldrick needed something to attack. Something to blame for his current predicament, and something he could smash to fix it.

Then as if answering his prayers a figure took shape in the sands around him. The wind picked up and as it did the form gained more definition. It took shape into someone he knew. It started walking towards him, the man with the long duster, hood over his head and mask over his face. The Traitor, the so called "Bishop".

"Hello Kaine. Are you ready to die?"

His form was covered in armor, which in turn was covered by his cloak. Kaine Redmont had his hood pulled up over his head and his mask, hid his face. Anyone who looked at him would know what he dabbled in sorcery. That was exactly the reason for his outfit. It was functional armor, but etched with runes and other visible spells. It was dual purpose, first as stated before it was functional armor, but it was also scary as hell to look at. Kaine was a firm believer in striking first and his armor struck fear into a lot of people.

The Bishop knew where Aldrick had been buried. He should since he was responsible for him being there. This was a confrontation that had been long coming. Of course Kaine was more then happy to have let it go on a bit longer, but it seemed that Aldrick was intent on making it happen now. As "The Wraith" spoke Kaine couldn't hold in the spiteful laughter.

"Die? Please you fool, I'm already dead. Anyways, we're family. Why would you want to kill me?"

The next words from Aldrick's mouth were something about being a Traitor. Yes he'd said it with a capital "T". How the man before him had been able to capitalize it was beyond him but apparently he felt very strongly about it.

"And exactly what makes me a "Traitor" dear brother? Was it how I helped bring the Wizard into the battle? Or how I brought re-enforcements from Eternelle Lune?"

He waited to hear Aldrick's reply. This was almost as much fun as toying with Victor Sage's daughter. He was almost beside himself with pleasure. What would Aldrick do when he learned the truth? Oh this would be very exciting indeed.

Aldrick just stared at Kaine for a moment. Was the man before him serious? He dared to question what made him a traitor? He was obviously mental. Not only that but it had been Aldrick that had gone to Eternelle Lune not the vampire. It would almost be interesting to see what the lunatic had to say. Releasing the grip he hadn't realized he had on his sword.

"You're the one who said that it was time to attack the Ravenholms. You "scouted" them out and said that we'd be able to pick them off fairly easy. They only slightly outnumbered us, but we were Redmonts. We could take them. We believed you.

"Then you go and kidnap a child to blackmail her father into fighting with us. From what I've heard of that man you were lucky he didn't join the Ravenholms and destroy us. Now you dare ask why you're considered a traitor? Not only are you a traitor, but you're a moron too it appears."

He paused and thought for a moment. Maybe there was more to this. How deep did Kaine's treacheries go? Were there more surprises waiting for them? He needed to know. Shaking his head, Aldrick looked back to The Bishop.

"You obviously came here for a reason. What do you want? Why are you here? Why am I here? Talk."

The Bishop chuckled as Aldrick ranted. Yes, he had made a mistake or two. As far as the mage's daughter went, it was a calculated risk, and one that he was glad he had taken. He'd been given a sterner and even scarier lecture from Daphne, before today. Everything had turned out well in the end. What was everyone's problem?

Now The Wraith wanted him to talk. He wanted answers. Kaine wasn't sure that he was ready for them though. Maybe he should take him on a field trip first. Maybe that would put Alrick "The Wraith" Redmont into the correct frame of mind to accept the truth.

"Very well Aldrick. I'll talk. However you're going to have to come with me if you want the answers you're asking for."

With that he turned and started walking. Unknown to Aldrick they started off in the direction of Ironhold Prison. It seemed a fairly fitting start to Kaine. After all, Aldrick was being kept prisoner, whether he knew it or not.

"Aldrick, did you know that we share a lot in common? For example, we're both very devoted to the Redmont family. We're both very good at what we do. Oh, and one of the most important things, we both have the same parents."

He kept walking, a smirk on his face under his mask. Kaine could tell that Aldrick had stopped in his tracks. He's admission had surprised The Wraith. The question now was what would Aldrick do? How would he react? What does someone like Aldrick do when he's told that one of the people he hates most in the world is related to him?

There was a large smile on his face now. He still hadn't dropped the bombshell on Aldrick yet. This was just foreplay.
