That is the question being bandied about as of late. As reported last week Aleris has been experiencing a rise in population with the establishment of the new Outer Gates of Aleris. Though not the population explosion you might expect with such easy access between so many various realms and dimensions new arrivals continue to appear on the streets of Aleris almost weekly, yours truly included.

Day to day living for the average Alerian has changed very little thus far but as with any influx of newcomers the inevitable changes will come and some are already on the horizon. Though it seems there will be little influence on the social structure for the time being, the economic structure is already under scrutiny as businesses based on the ideas of the newcomers are already in the works.

The most visible up and coming business is none other then Pit Falls, a cage (pit) fighting establishment that got its start in the Eternal Empire. Though owned and operated by the ruling body of the Empire in Eternelle Lune its Alerian incarnation will be under the ownership and direction of Akuma Prism, the undefeated Pit Falls Champion for the last ten years. Mr. Prism is no stranger to running such an establishment as his history with the Pits includes acting as a partner and seeing to the day to day management of the business so he is no stranger to the workings of a Pit arena though no doubt the new venue will bring about some notable changes.

Public opinion appears to be split on this matter. Though no one has spoken out openly regarding Pit Falls rumblings among the locals indicate some might not be as eager for the appearance of a pit fighting arena as some might expect. The concerns circulating are that the appearance of such a venue will spark a rise in violence among the population of Aleris while others feel as though this will be a welcome outlet as well as a positive boost to the economy.

Such businesses have always met a certain amount of opposition; the taboo element can often ensure the success of a business that operates outside of mainstream society. This particular business, however, already has one ace up its sleeve; the involvement and sanction of the Alerian government. While it is a privately owned business and under the authority of Akuma Prism, sources tell me he is in talks with King Alerion for the purpose of using the Pits for Government sanctioned duals and death matches to settle personal grievances. Details are sketchy at this point but it seems likely that the arrangement will be settled by the time Pit Falls opens its doors.

The structure itself is being erected on the island off the northeast coast of Aleris in the shadow of the Temple of Calypso; rather fitting that it is located near the seat of Chaos. Construction is under way though at this time we have no definite timeline as to when Pit Falls will be open for business or when its first arena match will be conducted.
