It had finally happened.
They found her -- they kidnapped her. How, she wasn't quite sure, not that it mattered now anyway. But, the beings that hunted her mother to the brink of death had found her abomination of a child. It didn't take them long, in the grand scheme of things, she supposed.
And Ariadne figured that they would have killed her. Well, they didn't. But, she was wishing they had. Death would be better than this. Anything was better.
They tortured her for everything from information, to pure pleasure. They took her to the brink of death and had their necromancers bring her back to do it all over again. They did it for fun, because of what she was. Because she was the last of her Mother's line. And because they hated her mother more than the Gods for abandoning them.
The people who had wished to capture her mother were not angels, as her mother had thought. They were demons -- more specifically they were humans that did the demons' bidding. And not just any demons.
Fallen Angels.
The tricky things about them was that they couldn't stand angels, because they were wrought with jealousy. So when they happened upon angels or their offspring, it was almost immediate death. But something about Ariadne kept them from killing her straight away, so they tortured her. They ripped what angelic 'being' she had in her out which left her almost dead.
Days and weeks passed, she was kept shackled in a cage, because even as weak as she was, she was strong enough to escape the humans. They also kept her sedated enough so that she couldn't slip forms and fly away. They knew what she was.
It took them some time to figure out what they would do with her, until one of the Fallen came to her with a devious grin.
"Cut her down." Came the grating voice of the Fallen.
Ariadne didn't really understand what was going on, she could hear the voices, but she didn't have the energy to even care. All she could think about was how this happened. How did they find her when she took a new last name and had been under Morlis' protection.
She didn't think she would ever understand it. But, as they cut her down the bird slumped into the arms of one of the humans. By now, Ariadne weighed no more than a hundred pounds, if she was lucky. Her limbs were too weak to hold her up even if she wanted to.
The next few hours blurred by in red hot moments of pain. Pure, excruciating pain. She was laid in a circle of her own blood while arcane symbols burned bright red on the ground. The Fallen surrounded the circle but never tried entering it. A language never spoken by human tongues rung in her ears and she screamed. Over and over again as the words seemed to burn in her head, they burned like something palpable and the screams only grew louder as she felt something begin to be ripped from her.
Her whole essence shifted and tore at the seams and she could feel something leave her, though it didn't without a fight. Her body writhed and jolted and lifted from the ground before they succeeded in their task. On the brink of death, Ariadne welcomed death then. She accepted that she wasn't getting out of this one, and since no one knew where she was or really even cared that she was missing -- no one was coming. Her body went still as she heard someone harshly stop the chanting.
"Isss sshe dead?"
Hands pawed at her body as they rolled her over onto her back. Green eyes were vacant and lifeless as she saw the blackness overwhelming her line of sight..
"No. She's still alive, but barely. We need to hurry."
Why were they doing this? What was she to them, and what did they hope to accomplish? All these questions racked her mind as she could feel the tears welling up in her eyes and they slid down her cheeks before she began to cough.
"Hurry!"
Cold hands gripped Ari's jaw as her mouth was wretched open. What felt and tasted like rancid blood was dripped in as the chanting began again. The humans had to hold her down, even at the weight she was, she bucked her body up so hard that she threw one of the men off of her. Just before she could spit out the blood, a hand clamped over her mouth so that she was forced to swallow it before she could scream. When they were sure that she would keep it down, the hand peeled away with two perfect crescents of teeth piercing his skin and when he noticed it, he raised his hand and backhanded Ari right across the face.
And all went black.
Soon enough, consciousness began to creep to the girl and finally she opened her eyes and noticed that she was propped against the wall. It took a moment for her to blink everything away, but a sound caused her to turn her head and a slight hiss of pain came from her lips.
The door to the cell was opened and a piece of meat was flung in. It was raw and looked like they just ripped a leg off of something and her lips curled in disgust. She didn't eat shit like that, but her stomach growled painfully and her hands gripped across her sickly thin stomach.
"Ungg.." Was the only coherent sound she could muster as she thunked her head back against the wall.
"Eat."
"Fuck off."
"Eat, or we'll force feed it to you."
"Screw you. Eat it yourself."
She could form words now, and she was in a really shitty mood when she finally figured out what was going on around her.
"Just eat the fucking food. You don't want us to make you, sweetheart."
"Kiss my ass and die." She spat her words towards the figure behind the bars of the door.
"Suit yourself."
The door opened and the man came in and took the meat away, turning around he left as swiftly as he appeared. "I wasn't hungry anyway!"
"You will be." And then he left.
Days passed and she refused the food time and time again. Something had changed, something was different. She could feel it, crawling under her skin. It was eating away at her, and every day she denied the food it got worse until she was clawing at the door when they didn't bring her food.
"Okay! I'll eat it! I'll eat it...Bring it back, please. Please!" She begged and pounded on the door weakly before crawling back to the corner and curling herself up. She rocked back and forth slightly and her teeth worried at her lower lip, tearing up what little skin was left.
Soon, the door opened and there was a pause. Much to Ariadne's surprise when she lifted her head, it wasn't a hunk of meat this time. It was a person. This shocked her, and her brows dragged together as she used the wall behind her to push herself to her feet.
"No! Don't leave me in here! LET ME OUT!" the man begged and threw himself against the wall when he picked himself up off the floor. "She'll kill me! I've been loyal to you! Why do you do this to me?!"
Ariadne looked at the man and her head canted like a curious animal. She knew who he was. He was the one who hit her. When he looked over his shoulder at her, he saw the recognition in her eyes and he panicked more and threw himself harder against the wooden door.
"Does no good. They won't listen to you." Came her soft voice. The hunger was growing and his fear was making it all the better. He smelled like a Thanksgiving Turkey at this point, and Ariadne's gaze glazed over as she approached him. Still weak and feeble, there was something different about her. Something inside of her head telling her to kill him. Her tongue drew across her lips.
"LET ME OUT! LET ME OUT! LET ME OUT!"
"Shh.." She could feel the canines of her teeth elongating, and her voice turned into a slight metallic sound. "I won't hurt you."
That was the last thing the man would hear before she attacked him. Crouching down, she sprang and it was only that she took him by surprise that she was able to knock him over. And that was that. Teeth met throat and she ripped the flesh from his body. Talons grew from her fingertips and she ripped and ripped at his body until she had made a cavity in his chest.
Her spine rippled and she could feel some sort of change hit her, and when she drew her head back she cried out. And the sound was enough to pierce eardrums of anyone close to her. Her mouth was full of razor sharp teeth but soon turned into a beak. Her spine cracked and reformed as she tore at the now dead man before lowering her beak to feed. Hands and arms turned to wings with deadly claws. Feathers flowed across her skin in shades of onyx and emerald, much like that of an oil slick. Her whole body grew as she stabbed her beak into the abdomen of the man and came away with internal organs, all of which she consumed.
And greedily so.
Figures appeared in the doorway, looking at her behind the bars. A grin curled their faces. They had corrupted the Angelic part of her. When the beast that Ariadne had become saw them, she lifted her head and let a screech escape her throat and it sounded like metal on metal.
They couldn't turn her completely. But this was good enough for them.
Little did they know that the bird nor the angel wasn't so easily overcome.
Thanks to Morlis and the Desiderios as a whole, she had been taught to tap into the simple magics, and illusions were their specalties, and no one had to know that their little experiment didn't take quite as well as they thought it had. It took her a few days to fight it, and it took a lot of pain and swallowed flesh to make it believable (and she soon upchucked it later), but she used whatever
otherworldliness she had in her and dug down deep to drown out the blood that had been fed to her. Sitting in the corner of the small cell, she took one of the shards of bone that littered the ground and she took the pointed end and dragged it across her palm. As deep as she could without hurting herself further.
They gave her her water like a dog, in a bowl. Scrunching her nose, she held her palm over the bowl and let her blood seep into it. Slowly but surely, she drained herself so that her blood could be replenished fresh. She just had to bide her time until they took her out of her cell, because she couldn't escape when there was no real windows to speak of.
With every full bowl of blood, she maneuvered it so that it looked like it came from the victims they kept trying to feed her. She ate what they told her to, and she hated herself for it, but she had to survive and she had to get out of there. It was true, she had changed into something horrific to behold, but that was something she couldn't help -- but it was something she fought off, and it drained out of her body along with the bad blood. The mix of her parents' blood wouldn't allow it. Her father's bloodline was strong, its how they survived for so long.
Finally, they thought she needed some air so they took her out into a courtyard-like clearing. Ariadne waited for them to unshackle her before she would make her move. They expected so much out of her, and they were so very blinded. She held the glamour up as much as she could, making them believe she looked how they expected her to -- how she did before her own blood won out. As soon as the metal hit the ground, Ariadne pushed off with the balls of her bare feet and launched herself into a run. Willing deep down in her very core of being, she willed the Quetzel to come to the surface, and it took some convincing since She was so weak.
"Come on.." she murmured as she looked behind her, the glamour weakening and the illusion was cracking. And they realized that she had tricked them all. Mighty Fallen Angels her ass. Finally, Ariadne could feel it and she pushed harder and when she lept to scale the wall, the feathers flowed like water and she yipped happily as her whole form kind of *POP*'d into her small bird form. Though, still weakened, she barely missed the reach of grabby hands as the guards reached the walls.
Her wings took her as fast as she could flap them and she headed in the direction of home -- whichever direction that was. Though, she needed to hurry because she was running out of steam, and fast. The lands bordering Aleris were never ending, but finally she got to what seemed to be the right place. It had been months since she'd been there. And just when she thought she would make it.. she pooped out and her wings faltered which sent her plummeting to the ground like a dive bomber.
Upon hitting the ground, she phased into her human form and she rolled until skidding to a stop. "Fuuu..k." Reaching her hands out, she stopped herself against a tree and laid there for a moment before she gathered her bearings. Shaking her head, she flopped onto her back and stared skyward. "Oh sweet Summer, how did I get into this mess?" Ariadne's chest puffed out and she dragged her ass to her feet. Of course, she was buck ass naked aside from the soft downy feathers that covered her thin form. She was thinner than she should be for lack of food, but at least she could walk.
Two steps away from the tree and she tripped, falling on her face.
At least she could -almost- walk.
