He wasn't sure if his words would have the effect he hoped they would on the shifter, but he felt a bit better just having gotten them out. Now he only hoped that he hadn't angered her enough to kill him in his sleep.

Post subject: Setting of the Eternal Embassy Post

To reach the Outer Gate of Eternelle Lune and the Embassy of the Eternal Empire one need only board the steam train that circles the entire continent of Aleris. It is located on the border of the Northern and Southern Lands in the center of the continent and the landscape that surrounds it is nothing more than barren earth caught between the worlds of death and chaos. This condition lasts only so far as the high gray stone wall that surrounds the embassy grounds, however, as beyond the walls seems more like another world. Though within the realm of Aleris the interior of the Embassy grounds mirrors the world beyond the Gateway it plays host too and is controlled by the Will of the Powers beyond that Gate.

The train stops in front of an antiquated platform with a wrought iron overhang just outside and a dozen feet to the right of the Embassy gates. This is the only entrance onto the Embassy grounds and anyone coming and going to these grounds and the world beyond it must go through these gates. Guards stand watch both outside and inside the gates, watchtowers with sentries built into the stone wall every few yards.

Once through the main gates a wide gravel road stretches ahead several yards, trees heavily lining both sides of the long drive that leads directly to the main Embassy building. The drive opens into a massive clearing, the Embassy manor a large gray stone edifice with an old world flair, the floor plan that of a large H. Faced with the flat side of one wing the grand entrance opens into an elegant receiving hall, the floors that of gray marble, the walls draped in dove gray silk, a large stone staircase directly ahead. To the left and right large arched entrances lead to meeting rooms of both an official and social nature. Upstairs are personal work spaces and smaller living quarters for those who work within the Embassy full time as well as servants quarters.

Towards the rear of the first wing of the building is the large kitchen that services the entire Embassy as well as the entrance to the long hallway that connects the two halves of the H, the walls and ceiling comprised of cut panes of glass that provide a lovely view of the kitchen gardens. The second arm of the H is strictly living quarters for the members of the Imperial Court sent to Aleris in an Ambassadorial capacity. Lavish self contained suites provide more than comfortable living quarters and residence in this part of the Embassy is by Imperial consent only.

There is another level to the Embassy though it is one not visible to the eye and is only accessible by the Imperial Family, the Protectorate, and those with special clearance. Beneath the Embassy building is the sub level dedicated to the protection and advancement of the Eternal Empire and its Embassy and it is here that you will find the barracks for the Protectorate as well as the armory, war room, and training facilities. There is a heavily protected door that only Valorius and Ameerah can open that leads from the Protectorate level to their private living space.

Behind the rear wing of the Embassy is the large garden, winding stone pathways outlined by trimmed hedges, abundant flower beds perfuming the air and providing a riot of color. Trees of weeping willow and cherry blossom offer shade to those who seek it and stone benches are placed at discreet intervals to provide for quiet reflection in the garden as well as jasmine and honeysuckle bowers for more private interludes.

At the left and right borders of the gardens two stone archways lead to smaller pathways that wind through the trees that grow in thick abundance around the Embassy. Several miles down the path to the right is the abode of the Crown Princess of the Eternal Empire and Imperial Ambassador to Aleris, (as well as the criminal figure head known only as the Sultan, though it is not common knowledge they are one and the same) and the Prince of the Eternal Empire and Commander of the Protectorate, Ameerah and Valorius. The style of the manor is very austere, bringing to mind the fortresses of the ancient Sumerians, the old design given a modern edge with the use of metal in its construction. Several miles down the path to the left is the abode of the Sang de Lune Wolf Pack who are in service exclusively to the Sultan providing whatever backup necessary and often handling the more delicate matters surrounding her criminal activities. The manor is done in the familiar French quarter design found very often in New Orleans.

Another gray stone building done in the same style as the Embassy building, though done on the scale of a carriage house, looms behind the Gardens, the simple style and location of the building belying its importance. Though it seems innocuous enough the armed guards standing at attention on either side of the entrance quickly disabuse that notion. This is the building that houses the Gateway that leads to Eternelle Lune. This is the only way in and out of the Eternal Empire.

There are no rooms inside, only a large vast space, in the center of which is the circular dais that sits beneath the twin glowing portals suspended mere inches above the stone platform. Once the Embassy was established the first portal split into two. Separated by several feet they face one another, mirroring the swirling clouds of energy contained within the gates.

To the right is the Gate that leads directly into the Imperial Palace that presides over Eternelle Lune and is the ruling seat of the Eternal Empire. Only those with special clearance may use this particular portal. To the left is the portal that leads to the main Gateway into Eternelle Lune. Once through that portal it opens into a wooded clearing illuminated by a tall lamppost, an Inn several yards ahead acting as visitor’s center to those new to the realm.

The rest of the land provides a wealth of natural abundance, wooded areas, lakes, streams, waterfalls...all of it laying in wait should the day come that the Embassy needs to expand its walls.
