That is the question currently burning in the minds of many of the established citizens of Aleris these days. With the opening of the Outer Gates and the influx of new arrivals the city was quickly plunged into the chaos that often comes with readjusting to new people and the problems that they bring with them. Violence was at an all time high for several weeks there, people were being murdered, mugged, and even raped, with no response from King Alerion or the Royal Court that advises him.
There are those among the citizens of Aleris, both new and old, who appreciate the lack of attention from the Royal Court. Increased guard patrols would definitely hinder the more nefarious activities that have begun to be so prolific in the city streets but many feel it crosses that line from a relatively free realm to a stricter military state and where then is the line drawn? Will more guard patrols lead to eventual enforced curfews? The dictation of what one can and can not do even when your actions have nothing to do with another person? The persecution of particular beliefs or racial and religious groups? Will gaining support from our King in this time of strife only lead to being yoked with an unfair dictatorship?
Rumors of a potential illness afflicting the King have begun to circulate as the populace begins to speculate on the King’s absence. Without even a word of encouragement or a sighting on the street the rumor mill has more then enough fodder and speculations have run from the simple to the fantastical. Only King Alerion can explain where he has been and why he has been so absent from his people. Without so much as a few words of encouragement to his people they are left free to wonder about his whereabouts as well as resent his lack of involvement or concern over the well being of his people.
Naturally King Alerion was not available for interview at the time of this article so I can only end this with one simple question. Where is King Alerion?
Where ever he is…
I’ll be watching.
