He wasn't sure if his words would have the effect he hoped they would on the shifter, but he felt a bit better just having gotten them out. Now he only hoped that he hadn't angered her enough to kill him in his sleep.

Things just seemed to go from bad to worse. The night before was no exception. What began as a conversation between herself and Tony turned into a bruhaha. Jezika wanted no part in a war she herself was not a part of. Yeah, she may be tied to Salem, but he, like she, would rather stay neutral in the entire thing instead of get involved.

That just wasn't going to happen it seemed.

Maxim pretty much turned his back on her even before he knew the whole story. She never attacked him, or moved to fight against him. She simply wished not to be involved. What was so wrong about that? Obviously more than she thought. But that whole situation made Jezika very... uneasy. She knew that Salem didn't even know the extent of what was going on, but Jezika knew more now than she had going into it. Valuable information to store for a later date.

Jezika had had a hard time sleeping, and Salem had stayed up most of the night trying to calm her down. Finally, finally she relaxed enough to drift off curled up in his arms when the pounding of the door snapped hero ut of the stress-induced sleep she found herself in. She was loyal to Salem and would go where he wished her to go. She had no reason not to trust him, he had not moved to hurt her in any way, be it physically or mentally. So why not?

There was a soft sound coming from down the stairs of the house Jezika had secured for them. The soft tapping became a rapid and loud banging. "Mistress?" Came a soft voice through the otherwise silent house.

"Priestess!"

Still, nothing. Jezika was out like a light.

BAM BAM BAM, came the furious pounding on the door. "PRIESTESS JEZIKA!"

Jezika's body jerked awake and she opened her eyes and mumbled, "Wha.." Shaking her head, she reached up and wiped the sleep from her eyes. No one knew where she lived aside from the temple workers, and they were sworn to secrecy and only came if it were an emergency.

Another round of BAM BAM BAM came and Jezika was soon fully awake and she looked at Salem, who was still, of course, sound asleep. Brushing her fingers through his hair, she slid from the confines of the bed, slipped on a robe and padded down the stairs, her blade grabbed on the way just in case.

"Mistress Jezika! It's Elaine and Jasper. Mistress.. we don't mean to wake you. Of course we do not wish to bother you.." The frantic voices came through as Jezika warily opened the heavy wooden door.

"It's the middle of the night, you two. What is so goddamn important?" Jezika was a bit cranky, and it was a given as to why. But, she shook her head and took a deep breath and looked up again. "I apologize. What's the matter, and why couldn't it wait until morning?"

The rain had soaked the two, and Jezika stepped back allowing them to come inside. She watched them carefully and set the blade down on the table next to the door and shut it when the two entered. "Mistress, we have some terrible news." Elaine seemed scared to tell Jezika what had happened. Brows lofted and Jezika nearly stared a hole in the girl.

"What Ellie is trying to say, Priestess... is that someone has.." Jasper paused and looked at Jezika before finishing his sentence. He knew that Jezika was going to blow up, and he paused to gulp lightly.

"Out with it."

"Well." Jasper paused. "Your temple.. You know, the one you were building in hopes to..." Jezika cut him off with a wave of her hand.

"Quit beating around the fucking bush and tell me what happened."

"We don't know what happened, Mistress.." Elaine stepped up beside her brother. "We came in to set up what you told us to, and we found it destroyed."

"What?" Jezika blinked as if she didn't believe what was being told to her.

"It's.. ruined. Priestess, we didn't do it!"

"How much of it is damaged?" 10....9.....8.....7.......7....7 Jezika tried counting in her head as she breathed slowly. Closing her eyes, she leaned her rear against the table.

"A...All of it, Priestess." Elaine half hid behind Jasper when she answered the question.

Jezika was afraid that would be the case. The rage bubbled inside of her and when she opened her eyes, they were as black as night. There was no whites left and Elaine yelped in surprise and jumped back, pulling Jasper back with her.

"You two.. better leave." Jezika tried to stay calm as much as she could. They had done nothing wrong, but she didn't want them to be caught in the crosshairs when Jezika blew up. "T.. Thank you for your information." Her body began to tremble, from the tips of her fingers, up her arms, until her whole body shook. Gripping the table in which she leaned, she closed her eyes again and tried to will the anger back. She tried to calm down, but being that she was still new at being a demon -- well, this type of demon, it wasn't an easy task.

Jasper nodded and wasted no time in dragging his twin sister out the way they came. They knew that Jezika wouldn't hurt them normally, but they also knew how much work Jezika had put into her project. She had been taking her position seriously, and to have everything ruined... Jasper didn't want to be anywhere near who did it when Jezika got ahold of them.

When the two left, Jezika opened her eyes again and thankfully they were back to that normal honey gold color, but the rage was still there. She didn't have to ask who had done it, Jezika had a pretty good idea.. Could be one of two people. "GOD FUCKING DAMNIT!" She let out an ungodly scream of fustration and she moved from her position and headed into one of the rooms, grabbed some clothes and threw them on before throwing open a rift and stepping through. What she would see when came through the other side made Jezika stumble in her steps and nearly fall over.

The whole place, everything was destroyed. Tears actually welled in her eyes as she looked around. The other temple workers that had been helping her had stayed back away from the mess as they waited for the Priestess to show up.

"Did.. Did anyone see what happened?" Jezika asked, her voice shook. "Someone better speak the fuck up!"

"No..no Priestess. No one saw. But... but we found this.." One of the men pointed to something shiny that laid near the ruined altar. No one had moved it, so Jezika made her way over and bent down. She stared at it before picking up the silver stake. "No.. Fuck.." Jezika couldn't find the words.. "He'll pay.. Goddess, he'll pay. FUCKING GODDAMN REDMONT!" She let out a growl and threw the stake with such force that it dug into the stone wall and stuck there.

Jezika would kill Maxim for this.

She needed to see what happened, and she needed to see it NOW. Jezika knew better than to rush headlong into something, it could end badly for her and everyone involved. But the anger and rage that flowed through the demoness was stronger than anything she had ever felt toward anyone. Not even Morlis could get this kind of rage out of her.

"Someone get me a silver bowl filled with blessed water." Jezika's odd request caused questionable glances from her people. "NOW!" She hollared.

Knowing someone that could help her, Jezika remembered that Cahira's daughter Syeira. They had grown up together in the Kumpania, and the girl was so much better than Jezika could ever think of being. Not many people knew that Jezika was a true gypsy, except the family she seemed to turn her back on. Who knew if Syeira would even help her in the first place, but Jezika would try. They seemed to get along when they were both Priestess' of Fate in Mystra.

When the water was brought, she sat herself on the floor and sat the bowl in front of her. "Now, everyone leave me be. Keep watch on the entrances to make sure no one comes in. No one that's not supposed to be here." She barked the orders and when the room was silent, she closed her eyes, focused her energy and soon looked at her own reflection in the water's surface. Jezika wasn't as good at Syeira at this, but she would do her best.

It took a moment, but Jezika soon began speaking. "Syeira, if you can see or hear this. I need your help. It's an emergency... Someone has decicrated one of my temples. I need to know who did it, and I'm hoping you can help out. Please. Come as soon as you get this.." A falling chunk of the ceiling broke her concentration and Jezika shoved herself out of the way as it fell on the bowl right where she had been sitting. Staring with disbelief, she shook her head and pushed her way to her feet and moved to where she had jammed the stake into the wall and she tugged it out.

Taking a seat on a larger chunk of what had been the altar, Jezika waited, her head rested in her hands. She was so mad she could spit... or kill. But what did she do? She cried. She had worked so hard at trying to better her life, and she couldn't get away from drama. It was just her lot in life to be caught in the same circle over and over again. She wished Salem was here, she wished Maxim would just die already -- along with that damn Bluefield mongrel. Did she mean the last one? Not really, but she felt that way at the moment.

Things would only get worse..

How did we get here?
When I used to know you so well.
But, how did we get here?
Well, I think I know.
The truth is hiding in your eyes.
And it's hanging on your tongue.
Just boiling in my blood.
But, you think that I can't see
What kind of man you are,
If you're a m a n at all.
Well, I will figure this one out
On my own...
I'm screaming "I love you so."...
On my own.
My thoughts you can't d e c o d e...

She was safe with her family, no one could contest that. When in the company of her mother and father and the rest of the kumpania there was very little that could touch her. All within the kumpania would die to protect their princess and shuvani and that was precisely why Nimeni had insisted she go to her family when it was time for him to see to his obligations to his own. She’s argued, naturally, argued something fierce and while he usually yielded in most things in this he simply would not be moved. She was still recovering from the poison and wounds inflicted upon her by Ivy and he would not accept any situation where she was not fully protected and in his mind that meant the strength of her family. And so she went.

Parting from him was harder then she remembered but it had to be done. Nimeni was needed and would not allow her to accompany him in her condition. She owed her own family an explanation as well. She had virtually disappeared in search of her own path and had managed to be kidnapped and tortured in the process. Her parents had no doubt sensed her distress but shielding from them had prevented them from tracking her or sensing just how dire the situation was. Now that she was on the mend she owed them an appearance.

Nimeni saw her to the portal within the grounds owned by the Eternal Empire and there they parted ways, he to see to his family, she to hers. The portal opened within the woods just outside where the Kumpania made camp and doing her best to appear well and healthy she began the short walk that would take her into the heart of the camp. She was spotted quickly and a cry went up that alerted all and sundry to her presence and while it was frustrating to be inundated with everyone present it was also heartwarming to have her appearance generate such happiness.

It took some time to make it to her parents Vardo but eventually she was approaching the vardo that housed the first female Rom Baro known to the romani nations, her mother, Cahira Desiderio. The door opened as she approached the small set of steps that led to the door and her father’s familiar figure filled the entrance. Xalliron Alvoris had only been a part of her life for a couple of years but in that time she had developed a bond with her father that was very strong and at the sight of him, the worry mingled with relief in his eyes, she lost her composure and bolted up the steps and into his arms. After several long moments he with drew enough to guide her into the vardo where her mother waited and settling down she began the long story of the events that had occurred in her life since she had departed the kumpania.

”And so here I am. I’ve just returned from the new realm, Aleris. Nimeni is there helping his family. He is the only reason I am here now.”

Her parents were not happy, that much was blaringly obvious, but their upset was only marginally directed at her for not summoning them when she was being held prisoner. The bulk of their upset was directed at Ivy and she knew if Nimeni did not kill the snake, her parents would make her suffer more then the snake could ever imagine. There was something else she wished to discuss with her mother though, something that to her mind was far far more important. She needed to know what the visions meant, why she was having flashes of memory that were not her own and why she had seen her own mother in them.

”That’s not important now though. Mother…we need to talk. I’ve had visions…I’m getting memories that are not mine..”

The look of awareness flickered through her mothers eyes so quickly she would have missed it had she not been watching her mother so intently but the demonic djinn was able to hide it easily, her face schooling itself into an unreadable mask. Just then she heard a voice outside the vardo calling her mother’s name. Knowing her mother had a duty to the rom she ruled she sighed, accepting her mother’s departure with a hard stare that said quite plainly that that particular conversation was far from over.

For the next few days Cahira continued to duck her daughter’s probing questions, insisting Syeira needed to rest and recuperate and it was true, in her mother’s care, with the various nasty magically enhanced herbal concoctions her mother poured down her throat, the poison was quickly expelled and in a few days she had regained her health almost completely. Being among her people didn’t hurt her recovery either; the only sore spot in the rather idyllic situation was Nimeni’s absence. Daily she wondered where he was and how he was doing, using all the tricks at her disposal to “watch out” for him and ensure he was alright. If he entered into danger she would know. She didn’t know how she would know, but she knew she would feel it.

Before parting ways she and Nimeni had worked out a plan. He would come for her when his duties to his family were seen too and it was safe for her to return. On the fifth day she was becoming antsy and beginning to wonder when he would show himself. She received a summons alright, but it wasn’t the one she was expecting. It was twilight when a familiar voice not heard in quite some time broke through the semi slumber she had fallen into. It took several moments to place the voice as she was the last person she would expect to contact her for help. Since Jezika had parted ways from Morlis she had not returned to the kumpania nor kept touch with any of them.

It was sheer curiosity that prompted her to respond to the summons. Seeking out her mother she explained about the message from Jezika. Cahira had often wondered about the girl she had taken in once upon a time since she had parted ways from her brother Morlis and also found it curious that Jezika would seek them out when help was needed. Ensuring she would inform Nimeni where she was when the lycan came looking for her she gathered her belongings and went back through the portal, this time guiding it to Jezika.

She had an ulterior motive, to be honest. If Nimeni were still in Aleris there was the chance she would see him, to ensure that he was alright. If not then he would find her when he was able to. Her faith that he would come for her was unwavering.

When the portal opened it revealed a destroyed temple that had the demoness’ gray eyes widening in mild surprise, especially when she spied the familiar figure of her quasi adopted sister rampaging through the rubble with a silver stake in her hand. Unable to prevent the smirk that curled her lips she silently approached the other woman, a slight frown marring her forehead as she felt the changes that had taken place in Jezika though that was a conversation for another time. Deciding to announce herself she spoke, her voice washing over the ruins like a gust of wind that could so easily become a fearsome gale.

”Looks like I missed something, Zika. Please tell me you didn’t summon me to help clean up. I don’t do floors.”

There was but a handful of people that were allowed to call her that. Her ex-husband, Cahira, and Syeira. It was because that is what she went by when she was a part of the kumpania. Jezika's birth parents were from a lesser tribe, which is why she was taken in by Cahira at all when Jezika was traded for 'eternal life' when she was but five years old. That was a story for another time, and one that Jezika wasn't likely to tell.

Looking up from her position, she smiled a bit, though quickly wiping the tears from her cheeks. Much had changed and she knew she owed Cahira some explanations as to why she just up and left with no contact at all. But she figured that Morlis had spread all sorts of horror stories around, since he was part of that kumpania as well. So she didn't want to face the humiliation and embarassment of that. Jezika would return home when the time was right, she knew it. But seeing her 'sister' seemed to help her a bit. Syeira felt like home.

"It did cross my mind, you know.. to see if you could work." She teased and chuckled. A deep breath was taken as she stood and made her way over to Syeira and hugged her. Jezika had truly missed her family. She never usually tells anyone about them, not because she doesn't want to.. but because it was for their safety. Jezika had enemies, and those enemies wouldn't be below going after her loved ones.

"But on a more serious note. I want to know who or what did this." She motioned to the mess behind her. "I found this," She held up the stake on her upturned palm. "I asked Maxim but one thing. ONE thing. Please don't ruin my work." Jezika looked down, "No one ever listens to me." Her fingers squeezed around the si;ver stake until her knuckles turned white. She could easily crush it, but she didn't.

"I don't have much to offer you for helping me. But I'll give whatever I have to you if you need it." Looking up at Syeira, Jezika was eternally grateful that she even showed up at all. Though, with her here it meant that Cahira knew that Jezika was in Aleris. "I know I'll have explaining to do to Cahira. But I assure you that I haven't forgotten about any of you." She reassured Syeira, though Jezika knew it wasn't necessary. "I just had some, eh.. Issues with Morlis, and I thought by coming here I could start a new life. And well, I was wrong. Not only he's here, but much of my other past is here too. So I just give up." She shrugged her shoulders. Her and Morlis got along better than they used to.. well that could be because they rarely see each other. However, Dori seemed to still like her, so it wasn't completely a bad thing.

"I would offer you something, but much of that is covered with dust and debris and I doubt you want to taste concrete. My apologies. It seems Maxim wants to ruin everything I care about because I refuse to get deeper in his little war." Jezika hadn't chosen a side. Neither had Salem for that matter. They had the church in mind, and the goddesses. Man, her mind was wandering. She was trying to keep it off the wreckage and her deep rooted want to kill someone. But, it was hard. "I don't know what you need, but I can get you anything to do what you do." Jezika chuckled a bit. That sounded funny, even to her.

"Sorry, I'm a bit out of it. You'll have to excuse my absentmindedness." Understatement of the year, that was.

She had never thought to step foot into a temple dedicated to the Gods again. She was a shuvani among her people and many equated them with those holding the office of “priestess” but it wasn’t quite the same. Still, she had been a priestess once, pledging herself into the service of the Goddess of Fate of Mystra Amor only to be abandoned by the Goddess at the first sign of trouble. When Nimeni had saved her life she had vowed she would never return to the goddesses’ service, or any God for that matter, and though she was not here in service of the gods but at the request of a friend, it was still a little unnerving to be back in the domain of the gods.

Only this domain was now in a pile of rubble with its weeping Priestess kneeling over it as though she had just lost a beloved child. She was pleased to see Jezika wipe away the tears at the sight of her and once teasing pleasantries were made and a greeting hug given she turned her attention back to the destruction before her, Jezika’s distraught words explaining what she thought had happened and why she had requested Syeira’s assistance. Then she mentioned Cahira and owing the family an explanation. With a slight smile her right hand rose, cutting off Jezika’s words. She knew what had happened between her and Morlis and while many of the family had sided with Morlis on the matter, in her opinion it was just that, between Morlis and Jezika. She herself was half succubus and more often then not she despised that part of her heritage. She would be damned if she slept with everyone around or shared her man, regardless of the urges of that particular demon, so she had been able to relate to Jezika’s desire to be someone’s one and only. She has simply picked the wrong someone. A mistake millions of women have made, herself included.

”You don’t have to explain yourself to me, Zika. I’ve never been incredibly close to Uncle Morlis and haven’t always approved of his lifestyle, or my mother and father’s for that matter. What’s done is done, no need to dredge it up for my sake. I’m not Ameerah.”

A note of derision was heard in her accented voice as she spoke the name of her cousin, Ameerah. They had all grown up together in the kumpania, Ameerah and Jezika a few years older then Syeira, and Ameerah and Syeira had a long standing rivalry between the two. To be honest she couldn’t really stand her cousin which was why she hadn’t seen her in almost two years, since she had parted ways with Akuma. She wouldn’t publicly speak ill of her kin, however, so that was all that was said on the matter of Ameerah, who had sided with Morlis in declaring Jezika a traitor to her vows.

Turning her twilight gray eyes to the silver stake held in Jezika’s ever tightening grip she reached out and gently pried it out of her death grip.
”This belongs to the slayer, then?” She had met the Redmont slayer only a few times but it certainly did look like one of his weapons. With silver stake in hand she moved to the nearest pile of rubble, a large flat chunk topping it to form a make shift table she placed the stake in the center of it before lowering herself to sit on another large chunk of stone.

A small cloth bag hung at her left hip and reaching into it her hand came free clutching several pieces of polished white bone, the make and size making it hard to tell if they are animal or human bones; one knew better then to ask a shuvani such questions. Turning her attention to the silver stake she cast the bones onto the rock surface, allowing them to fall as they would around the gleaming metal. Hands braced on the rock she leaned forward and for several long moments studied the bones and the way that they fell in relation to the focal point, the stake. Finally her head rose enough to allow her to turn those gray eyes upon Jezika.

”I hate to ruin your plans for a vengeance, but Maxim didn’t do this. He was here, yes, but he was not the cause of the destruction.”

Finding out who caused the destruction would be a different bit of casting all together, magic that went beyond the realm of what your average shuvani could do, but not what a djinn or a demon could do. It was true, the djinn within her had been bound, but the ability to wield magic had remained, her mother had seen to that. Fire and smoke, all means of divining and all elements wielded by the demonic and djinn races, were at her disposal and realizing the area was filled with flammable debris she turned her eyes on the nearest temple attendant.

”Gather up some of the combustable debris nearest the point where the temple fell, if you know it, and move it!”

Everyone was walking on eggshells to avoid the wrath of their already distraught priestesses and the gypsy frankly had no time for someone who couldn’t work quickly and efficiently in a crisis. In only a few moments the woman returned with several pieces of wood and even a torn cloth. It would be difficult to tell where the origins of the destruction were, but it didn’t matter. Any piece of the building could tell her its tale. Arranging the objects over the stake and bones she set to work, first removing a bit of ground dragon root which she sprinkled over the wood and cloth, the root itself aiding in seeing through illusion to the truth of the matter. The same woman who had fetched the wood appeared at her side with a lit piece of wood, anticipating the shuvani’s need to light the pile in front of her.

With a nod of thanks to the woman she glanced to Jezika as if to say “here goes nothing” and then lit the small pile of wood. As the smoke began to rise her hands reached out, moving through the smoke as though gathering it, molding it, infusing it with her will. The twilight gray of her eyes began to sparkle with a magic the average shuvani, or even demon, would never possess and when she spoke the voice of the tempest rang through the destruction, commanding, compelling, a voice one could not help but obey.

”Reveal to me the destroyer of this sacred temple.”

The smoke began to roil within the boundaries created by her outstretched hands, coiling like agitated snakes before finally beginning to coalesce into the smoky image of the man who had destroyed this temple, that of Alastair. Having not met the man she was unable to identify him but she knew Jezika would be able to see the image as well. With a glance to Jezika to ensure that the priestess was watching the smoke she let her hands drift further apart, giving the smoke more room to work her will and making the image larger for all to see.

”This is he, the one who destroyed your temple.”
