Zaur's first step was to purchase several vials and begin researching the glowing black substance. Closer study revealed it was a mixture composed of the blood of several nonhumans, enchanted to blend them. Unfortunately, he was from a world dominated by large reptiles and his people. So he had no idea what a vampire, or other non-human race including therianthropes of other types, fluids looked like. The lizard magus was only able to rule out humans as a result. He would need to research the other races eventually but, for now this was enough.
Next, he followed the trail of merchandise to the warehouse district in Hinewai Harbor. This was no small feat, since he managed to convince his unsuspecting dealer that he had a major addiction to the vile liquid. It took a week to hunt down the distributer. However, greed blinded the fool that made a living off of others suffering. When he first entered the warehouse alone, he noticed it was full of fine silk clothing and rugs. Zaur was not fooled due to his dealer's information and his sense for magic. He found the false wall in the back of the storage facility that looked like an empty shelf. A loose stone to the right of the magically cloaked door was clearly the barrier key. A small pulse of non-elemental energy from his right hand channeled into the keystone dissolved the solid illusion.
Zaur shifted into his combat form and bent light around himself, effectively causing him to vanish from normal sight. If someone had an enhanced sense of smell like him, they would notice. However, magical sight would only reveal that light behaved strangely in the area he occupied. The therianthrope was blind as well. He was only capable of seeing pitch blackness while under the influence of the spell. That is why he shifted so his stronger nose could lead him. The descending staircase was a narrow hallway, so touch assisted his movements.
Down below the strangely mellow scent of the substance was everywhere, mixed with human smells. He cursed silently when he bumped into a hard wooden table. A human approached after proclaiming he heard something strange over by the corner table. Zaur waited until the unsuspecting person's scent got stronger. The scent of metal and gunpowder hit him as the human was inches away.
The magus dropped his light reflecting shield, and received a bullet in the chest for his trouble. Thankfully, it missed his left lung. However, the other nine humans scattered about the room added their bullets to the fray. The shifter was ready this time and raised a shield of invisible force to stop the shots. The nearest gun user was preparing to fire a second bullet when his head was pulped in the lizard's hand. Two more took lightning bolts to the chest cavity dying without pain. The last seven were incapable of hitting Zaur as his reflexes kept him safe. They were knocked unconscious by a fine mist of sleep that the magus breathed on them in a cone effect. Six of them were tied together the last one was alone in a separate room so that Zaur could get some answers. Their guns were thrown in a pile as evidence. He would call the Grand city soldiers after he finished his information gathering. Also, Reid Feral would receive a message detailing the whole incident to use for the chronicle.
