A week had gone by and he had received no word from Karessa. He knew she was aware of his intentions, somehow he could sense it, and still she took no action to stop him. So be it. Perhaps some day when she had recovered from the betrayal of the third part of their marriage, their ex wife Jezika, they could reconcile but for now…for now it was best they part ways. She had to live her life and so did he. Only Autumn knew of his intentions, the little human the only one who had dared to try to breach the wall he had thrown up between himself and his family and women.

Still, it was time. Time to say good bye to his sweet cara and hope that some day their lives would merge again. It was almost as hard as saying good bye to Nimue, but nothing had ever compared to that. And so it was that he again made his way into the city of Aleris to the small offices housing the Aleris Chronicle. The same girl sat behind the desk and the blinding smile she offered him when he entered was proof that she remembered him. Instinctively he turned on the charm, returning her smile in spite of the difficult task he was there to do.

Another piece of parchment as well as another bag of coins was handed to the girl, her eyes scanning its contents under the pretense of proof reading it. He could see the interest light within her eyes as she realized it was a divorce announcement and his smile widened slightly, becoming more genuine. When she had finished reading she set it aside in the pile of announcements to go out in the next days paper and leaning onto the counter the fingers of her left hand trailed over the back of his wrist.

”I get off in ten minutes…” her voice trailing off, an obvious invitation.

For a moment he considered turning her down but he was practical if nothing else. He was still an incubus, he was still a lover of women, and he would still need to feed. Leaning down close to the girl it seemed as though he would kiss her, her head tilted as though preparing for it, but he stopped just short of her lips in order to answer her unspoken offer.

”Yes…you will.” And giving her the address of the new estate in Aleris and how to find him he departed, confident she would be joining him later.

The next day a notice of divorce ran in the Aleris Chronicle:



I, Morlis Desiderio, hereby divorce my estranged wife, Karessa Lust, formerly Karessa Lust Desiderio by reason of abandonment.

It was short, to the point, and as bereft of emotion as he felt.
