celebrating six years of adventures

Our Voices

"Six, you'll need to step back a bit. I need room to do this."

I was only half telling the truth. I would need room, but I just wasn't comfortable having an angry, naked demon looming that close to me while I was on the floor. Go figure.

"Yes, Sovereign," the little girl replied, but her voice was more of a long drawn out hiss now. Like a snake, she let Maiwen's brother's name slide over her tongue for a long time, but when she turned to Maiwen, she was smiling pleasantly. "My brother and I have been waiting to see you for a very long time..."

The small girl turned away from Maiwen and started walking towards the chilled Abre`Verte fields that were now layered with snow. Her destination was set toward the Snowside mountains where her brother's stronghold was. The small child was sure Maiwen would follow since the young dragoon had so easily taken the delicious bait provided. All it took was a name.

"You see," the little girl began with a voice as sweet as honey, "we all used to live here quite a few years ago, but they would never let us meet. Selune would not let us meet. Even though we all lived in... Oneiro."

So it was revealed to Maiwen's rather innocent eyes, the "home" she had been drawn back into was none other than the destroyed version of Oneiro. Would Maiwen recognize the city she had once lived in? Would she remember where the city was - where the palace once stood vibrant and elegant against blue skies? Would Maiwen remember anything...?

When Maiwen mentioned leaving, the little girl stopped in her tracks. Maiwen was trying to tug away from the bait that ushered her forwards until now. With urgent footsteps, the white haired girl went back towards Maiwen and a sense of desperation she had never presented herself with before was written along her face. The crimson eyed child reached out and took Maiwen's hand in both of her own.

"I beg of you," the girl began, "do not leave me. Please. We have... waited so long..."

But the real question was, waited for what? Nevertheless, before the little girl tried to allow Maiwen a chance for objection, she was tugging gently on Maiwen's fingers trying to usher her back along. The pair only had to reach the mountains and then Maiwen would stay with them forever.

"Would never let us meet?" Mai asked with a frowned curiosity. Like a child who was disallowed to do something, a rebellious nerve was struck like a chord that prompted you to defy authority.

"why"
was the next burning question to follow of course. You cannot simply expect a child not to question every, tiny, thing.

And though the wintry child's answer was direct yet vague, her voice was tempting and sweet. She came across as being just as deprived as Maiwen, and Maiwen of course was wallowing in her own self pitty and immediately assumed the little girl felt just as cheated as she herself did.

"Grandmother?"
A confused expression washed over her face. Selune was not the sort of Grandmother most children knew. But then again most children did not have a Godling for a Grandparent. She barely knew Selune. Barely remembered.

"why?" Came another question. "Why would Selune not let us meet?"

Then came the begging...and the tugging of her fingers. Maiwen understood desperation. The was full of it herself. She felt as if she shared a kinship with this little white haired girl.

"What is your name?"
Maiwen had made no indication whether or not she would move forward or retreat yet.
