Born in a neighboring country situated in the north, he was raised as an heir to the royalty of the Redmont regime, a family of slayers. From the start, he was trained to lead them both inside and outside of battle. His parents found that he adapted quickly; when his adopted sister was sent away for psychological issues, Maxim eventually dismissed her as lost at the age of seven years. His proficiency came with both blades, and his bare hands. Even in a land where most of the undead had been wiped out, they had foes that desperately wanted to rid the country of the slayers. Camille Lexus eventually sent her coven after the Redmonts, and the ensuing conflict took the life of his father. At the age of sixteen, he and another slayer battled to keep the creatures out of the estate, and were partially successful. With her husband dead, Maxim's own mother resigned her position as Lady of the family. And without reluctance, he became Lord Maxim Redmont.
There was a woman that had become his silent partner over the years, by the name of Daphne McKennah. Like him, she was one of the few slayers that had the chance to become very good at what they did. Most of her family had fallen when the government of the country was established, and as a result she found herself closer to most of the Redmonts. In time, Maxim and Daphne fell in love with each other, and were married shortly before they left their previous home to come to the current realm. His first victim was a vampiress that would later be a force to be reckoned with, although they only clashed once. And that was where all hell broke loose...
The Ravenholms were a group of demons that had longed for vengeance against the Redmont family for nearly four centuries, having drifted in the abyss since their physical bodies were destroyed. And when the slayers showed up, four of them were possessed. Time gradually passed, and those four cornered Maxim one day and weakened him until the leader of those demons possessed him. The demon attacked that vampiress several times more under the guise of the Redmont, pretending to be Maxim. She failed most of the time, but became stronger with every loss. And when he couldn't hurt her physically, the demon began playing with her emotions. It was at this time, that Maxim began to realize what was going on. His soul drifted in the abyss, and he watched as that vampiress' rage fueled her strength, and she took the demon down while it had control of Maxim's body. He had no way to escape that void of condemnation, and the demons had killed most of the Redmonts save for a select few.
When the leader of the Ravenholms was revived in Maxim's body, he immediately took part in a battle that gained him a blessed, although gruesome suit of armor. Gloating at his freedom, the demon was unmatched even when the vampiress found out that she had been used; she showed little remorse, if any. But eventually, a former priest of the Redmont lineage showed up; Demetri's soul was exorcised into the armor itself, which was torn away from Maxim's body. He was given a cursed sword then, as well. Daikonran, the Muramasa-styled blade; for as much pain as the Redmont suffered, he'd grow stronger.
For better or worse, the Lord Redmont had returned, as the Nightmare of those who sought to defeat him. And eventually, he was defeated - by humanity's own selfish whims. Coerced into pleading for Redmont assistance, a group of humans helped to trap Maxim, and a council of elder vampires tried to seal his fate by embracing him, and turning him into one of their elite. They inevitably tried to control him - and failed. And one by one, Maxim used his knowledge to kill each one until only the strongest of the council remained. Ironically, it was the vampiress who had sired him. The Redmont vampire then gave away a terrible secret; he had been feeding from the elders he had killed, stealing their power and knowledge and becoming stronger with every slaying he committed. The last thirteen vampires that were known to have been slain by Maxim Redmont were also the means to his sudden rise in power.
A violent killing spree followed the vampiric King Redmont's sudden change, eventually resulting in him killing his own wife in a fit of rage. His wrath knew no limits; even when confronted by former allies and surviving Redmonts, Maxim would not relent until eventually, the younger sister of Daphne McKennah Redmont visited the southern temple of the Goddess of War, where the Kinslayer had come to reside. It was her, that reminded him of what was truly important to him - the one thing that never changed, even after he had found himself irrevocably transformed by undeath. She spoke words to him that remained long after that day "You loved the name of honor more than you feared death." And as the deity herself said, there was honor in redemption.
And it was redemption that he eventually found, when he was at last reunited with his resurrected wife - and this time, he knew when not to fight.
