Our Voices

Doubly surprising considering she was a vampire succubus and he a satyr but, there it was. The supernatural version of Milo and Otis.

Where you used to be,
There is a hole in the world,
Which I find myself constantly
Image
Walking around in the daytime,
And falling in at night.
I miss you like hell.

Background

Thirty years ago Quinn's mother found a man she loved. They spent several weeks together before he finally left. She'd given her heart to a demon lord and he'd taken it with him. However he did leave her with a gift. She was pregnant. Nine months later Quinn was born. From the first time he could remember his demon was inside his head talking to him. Guiding him to make what would turn out to be some of the worse decisions he could.

Growing up his mother told him stories of this father and his father's much larger family. She never explained why he left, but when he got older he realized it was because he'd been a married man. He couldn't be with his mother, because of the obligations he'd had to his first family. Quinn could eventually understand this and came to grips with it.

Over the years with his mother as a balancing influence on his life, Quinn grew into a fairly well adjusted young man. He'd gotten the strength needed to fight the demon inside (most of the time he won), and lived a fairly quite life, content with what he had with his mother (much to the displeasure of his demon).

It wasn't until the Outter Gates reopened in Aleris that he heard his family's name again. The Redmonts. Before long, Aleris was at war with them. According to Alerion they needed to be destroyed. But Quinn wasn't happy with just taking the King's word for it. Instead he stealthily made his way into the Outlands. Taking the uniform from a dead soldier, he pretended to be him for the duration of the war.

He soon found out that the King had been influenced into declaring war upon the Redmonts by their long time enemies the Ravenholms. The tide of the war shifted from that point on. Alerian's forces teamed up with the remaining Redmonts and they were able to destroy the Ravenholm Empire. Quinn himself lead several successful missions in the war and his stolen identity won a few more awards from the King.

Unfortunately for him, he had to drop the persona and resume being himself. The soldier he'd pretended to be was "lost" in his last attack against the Ravenholms and died a hero of the realm. While Quinn made his way back to Aleris, disillusioned with the man he'd thought his brother had been. Maxim was oddly absent through the whole slaughter of their family, and for that he hated him.

From then on he dedicated himself to redeeming his family's honor, something he felt the rest of the family and Maxim specifically had lost. He'd been nicknamed "The Redeemer", and lived up to this reputation. He struck down enemies of his family, striking fear into many of them that Maxim had returned. Word soon spread that it wasn't Maxim but another lone Redmont doing the killings and many people put hits out on him. None of them however, were successful, and none of them lived long enough to regret it.

Despite all this, Quinn wasn't a bad guy. He fought for those who couldn't fight for themselves. And slowly the name Redmont started to become respected again. It wasn't until he met a young woman about to be attacked in a bar that things began to change for him. He altered her of the impending attack and even took care of a couple of the dupes for her.

They met outside after the fight and he found himself intrigued by her. She was independent, strong of both will, and body. When she found out that his surname was Redmont however she went for his throat. It didn't surprise him really. There were really only about two reactions that he got when he did let his last name slip. Either fear or violence.

He was able to talk her down and make her see that he wasn't like his brother. Thankfully they became friends. When he realized that she didn't have a place to stay he offered her his spare room in the home he'd shared with his mother for years. She accepted and soon they were roommates.

Deanna had become an important part of his life. So when she ran off without discussing it with him, he took it upon himself to follow her and ensure she would be safe. Of course when he was found to be following her, she didn't take it well. Actually she shot him. To be fair, she thought he was a werewolf attacking her at the time so he didn't hold it against her.

They traveled through the lands searching for a man he'd met once, to help him find the cure for his ailment. Through their journey they found that they actually deeply cared for each other and eventually became mates. Finally they tracked Verial down and found him with his young son. The four of them devised a plan to get the were that had bitten Verial and get the cure.

The whole time this was happening Quinn's demon had gained more and more influence over him, and during the fight with the weres Deanna went down. He was unable to see her but knew that he'd stop at nothing to make sure she was safe. And in his darkest moment, Quinn gave himself over to his demon. The power was intense and awe inspiring.

The feeling however didn't last long. Just as he was about to join the battle against the evil were, Quinn's demon disappeared. He still has no idea where he went to however, while he'd been in him, Quinn had been bitten by several weres. The demon had kept the virus at bay but with him gone, there was nothing stopping the mutated virus from taking over.

Now he's left to deal with this new voice in his head and whether or not he and De would be able to have a nice, peaceful life. Of course that didn't seem likely at the moment, but who knew? Maybe the Gods would smile on them...for a while at least.
