Post subject: The Last Decrees of the King

(OOC: My apologies for not getting this out sooner. After this post, Elias Lowell will most likely never make any other appearances, but it's RP. You know how that goes... lol You can respond to this thread if you'd like, but it's basically just to tie things up with the last realmwide storyline.)

Several days after the death of King Elias Lowell, the door to his chambers were finally opened. It had been kept shut for some time, mostly out of respect and partially because no one knew what to do. With the loss of the king and the mysterious absence of Madrin Kir, the Lord Commander of Eiler, the capital of Eiler, Grand City and the rest of the continent did not know what to do. Leaderless, the people of the land searched for answers, but none came. Not even the voice or presence of Aurora, the Goddess of Spring, was detected.

It was a servant woman who had opened the door and after setting out to clean some of the dust away from the dismal, abandoned bedroom of the late king, she found, carefully rolled up and sealed with a pressing of wax, a piece of parchment. Her feather duster wielded in one hand, the cleaning lady stared down at the parchment wondering what to do with the mysterious note. For a moment, she thought to throw it into a fire, but in the end, she decided the best course of action was to take it to the next in command, the Captain of Grand City's army, Trevor Alei.

The entire journey to the captain's room, the woman kept the parchment cradled in the palms of her hands. When she got to the door, despite her thoughts of burning the parchment to ash earlier, she carefully knocked on the door and awaited hoping that the captain was even present. He was. Trevor Alei, aging and appearing worn out, looked at the woman with question, a gray brow arched.

"May I help you with something?" he asked.

"A letter," the woman began. "I found this while cleaning out King Elias' chambers. It was just sitting there on his desk as if waiting to be read."

Trevor's eyes flicked down to the parchment in her hands and he took it without question. With a wave of his hand, he dismissed the cleaning lady, though she appeared hesitant to leave, curious as to the contents of the letter. Shutting the door behind him, Trevor broke the seal on the letter and unrolled the parchment. Before even reading the letter he recognized Elias' script. There was no doubt about it. What timely words did the deceased king leave before his death?

"To Aleris, my Kingdom, my Home,

I write to you my last letter on the eve of my death. In just a short time, I will leave the comfort of my room to protect Grand City, to give it everything I have so that life may prevail. Since I will not be with Aleris much longer, I hope that my last requests in this letter will be advised. I have made some mistakes in the way that I ruled this land and I hope new directions and choices, even after my death, will assist in putting Aleris on a much more prosperous path.

To start, let it be known that there will no longer be a 'King of Aleris'. Each continent should have its own leader. Eiler, Heruin, Elved and Arthuran shall make their decisions and decide what is best for them. May the rulers of each land be brave for their people when those people cannot be. May the rulers of each land be the glue that holds Aleris together. I cannot decide who will take position over Eiler, but those able bodies who are interested should present themselves to the rulers of Heruin, Elved and Arthuran - should those leaders make it through this time of turmoil.

My next course of action, many will not approve of, though I pray in the future that some can forgive me and others will come to understand. Several months ago, I condemned an innocent woman to be hunted down and sentenced to death, though I knew very well that she was not at fault for one of the wars that had been plagued onto Aleris. Still, in order to appease, I believed her blood would bring happiness to others. This, I imagine, is true for some of you even now. Let it be known that I am shedding this hateful and unforgiving mindset with my departure from Aleris. Deanna DiCorvino, should you be reading this, I exonerate you from any crimes that we're placed upon you. You are a free woman and with my wishes, you may walk through Aleris without hiding. Though I imagine it will not be an easy path, the world is yours again just as it belongs to anyone else.

As I close, my final decree would be that Aleris remains strong. I have seen horrible things happen to this realm, but more so, I have seen wonderful, amazing things during my time. One of them being that despite the tragedies and the tears, the people and creatures of Aleris have continued to prevail. Aleris is only as strong as its people will allow and I have faith that majority of you will continue to protect that which you love.

My regards and well wishes to all of you,

King Elias Lowell
Last of the Immortal Kings"

Trevor Alei let his eyes roam over the words on the paper a few more times to digest the wishes of a dead man, the fallen king of Aleris. After several minutes, he rolled up the parchment and stepped out of his room only to see the cleaning lady there in the hall, as if waiting to hear what was in the letter.

"My dear lady," Trevor began tapping the letter softly against the palm of his hand, "we have some work to do and news to deliver."
