Post subject: Circles Again - Death and Life
(OOC Note: I apologize if things seem kind of vague in this post. This is making an assumption on the realmwide storyline that certain things happened.)
It had been a long time since Wish sifted the sand through her toes. It was that familiar sand of her home back on Eiler - the home she spent so little time at, but longed to. It felt good, comforting even, to be back home on her little island and away from the catastrophe that was Lapis Cove. Here, things almost seemed normal, thought she could not deny there were other events that had happened on Aleris concerned her.
After leaving Lapis Cove, Deanna and herself made way back to Eiler. However, upon their return to Eiler, the atmosphere had changed dramatically. Notably, Wish could feel something in the air - a lack of trust. No one in Grand City looked at each other the same way. There was contempt, distrust, shame. Being away, she was not entirely sure of what had happened to make the people react in such a way.
So she did the one thing she could think of. She went to Madrin Kir. Unfortunately, when she made way to the castle, she was told by one of the royal guards that the Lord Commander of Eiler had not been seen in quite some time and was apparently missing. Before she could ask any other questions, she was turned away despite her position as Aurora's chosen Paladin. Her attempt at finding the Black Wolf clan or Madrin's adopted daughter Neera faired just as worse. She couldn't find anyone. It was as if the world had changed and anyone she knew in Aleris was gone.
And that was not the last of the news that left her heart feeling heavy and worn. She had heard word that first, the King of Aleris, Elias Lowell, was dead. He had died defending the city from the same creature, the Tide King, which they had fought and healed on Lapis Cove. The defensive magic Elias had performed was a sacrifice to save the kingdom and though there was some damage on Hinewai Harbor, majority of the city had been kept safe. Wish and Deanna had just missed the funeral procession, having arrived a few days after it, and she wondered if she would be criticized for the Avatar of Spring not being present.
A new leader had not been assigned to Grand City but it was rumored that Grand City would no longer act as a central point over the other continents - that everyone was now completely independent.
In other news, she had also heard that the acting Padishah Mariksa V, for as short of a time that she assumed to role, was beheaded in a battle to save the city of Drybrush and that the city of Drybrush was now under the sand. There was also some talk about the Bel Telal of Heruin, Valorius Malku, on his death bed, but otherwise, she was unaware of his current condition.
To this, Wish did turn to Deanna and say, "No Padishah of Heruin, huh? You know who likes Heruin? Sharay." Wish said this as mostly a joke, though it was not out of the realm of possibility that Sharay would attempt to conquer the land now that it was leaderless and the Bel Telal was out of commission. In saying this to Deanna, she couldn't quite interpret the look on her friend's face, whether it was horror, amusement or pregnant woman sickness.
They had inquired about Arthuran and received news that Verial Akilara was still very much alive, though Chaliceton had been attacked as well. Wish could see a sigh of relief leaving Deanna as they both heard this, though her visage did turn after they were informed Sahar was killed in the attack.
From all the information they gathered, they assumed there had been a global attack on the entire realm.
Since there was nothing left for them to do on Eiler, Wish and Deanna left for her small island nestled in the cradle of Eiler's coast. Wish did her hardest not to give Deanna a lecture. She assumed Deanna knew how grave her choice about going to Lapis Cove had almost been and she would not pressure the woman. Especially when she looked, despite Deanna's outside mask of strength, slightly traumatized. Brahngier Thaemana had done a number on them, but something he did had touched Deanna more than the others, that much was for sure. In any case, Deanna had grown exceptionally since their unexpected journey and she looked ready to give birth at any moment. Wish prayed that they both had the will left in them.
After stepping onto her island, Wish took off her boots, worn and dirty as they were, and started the trek across the sand towards her small cottage located on the shore. She looked back at Deanna and waved her onward.
"Welcome home, my friend," Wish said. "I'm sure we could both use some much needed rest."
