Redmont Attack on Palace Leaves Dozens Dead!
In the wake of King Alerion's announcement to ally himself and Aleris with the Ravenholm Empire of the Outlands an attack was levied against the royal palace that resulted in nearly thirty Royal Guards dead. One lone guard survived to tell the tale of the brutal assault. Last Thursday under the cloak of night an ominous figure approached the palace; reports describe the assailant as appearing of insectoid origins with the flesh of what could only be its victims stretched over the skeletal frame like some macabre trophy. The attacker identified himself as none other than Maxim Redmont, the very figure implicated in the civil unrest in the Outlands.
As feared, the alliance with the Ravenhom Empire and the Outlands has potentially resulted in an attack on the Alerisian citizens that has ended with the deaths of dozens of loyal guards. Unfortunately there is no way to determine if the attack was motivated by the new alliance but it does seem related.
In the wake of the brutal slaughter on our King's Palace and Guards there is one question that burns to be asked. Where was our Captain of the Guards? Medora Desiderio, Captain of the Royal Guard, was not only absent during the attack but has yet to be seen as the guards struggle to regroup in the aftermath. Such lax attention to her duties no doubt resulted in the guards being ill prepared to meet the attack and without proper leadership will take even longer to recover.
I ask you now, citizens of Aleris, do we need a Captain of the Guard that neglects her duties and her fighters? This is the force meant to protect our King, our captial city, and its residents. If Ms. Desiderio can not do her job perhaps it is time for her to resign.
We at the Chronicle would like to express our sincerest sympathies to the families of the slain warriors. All those killed in the attack will be afforded a warriors burial this weekend in Soul's Ferry Cemetery in the Northern Lands of Elysia. All wishing to pay their respects to our fallen heroes is welcome.
